Every dish we had: Labneh: that bread was seasoned so well and the sourness of the yogurt. I could have licked the plate Lamb shoulder: the lamb was so moist and flavorful, the garnishes were on point-garlic sauce, pickles, hot sauce, perfection Sweet jeweled rice: I couldn't stop eating it. The sweetness is the saffron and crunchiness of pomegranates and other things were so satisfying Roasted beets: it was a great counter point to the rich food. It was earthy and syrupy, so tasty For my husband's birthday, we had the chocolate olive oil cake and Turkish coffee. It was literally the moistest cake I've ever had. The service was amazing! We had a reservation at 8:15 and were promptly seated by the hostess. We were not given a drink menu but the bartender who was also our server quickly fixed that issue. The fried olives were delightful bites. The labneh was absolutely fabulous-smooth, creamy and with a punch. The seeded bread served alongside was dynamite. We also got the eggplant dumplings and the yogurt sauce spiked with the sweet date sauce was heavenly. We also shared the short ribs and the greens and cauliflower. These were not quite as stand out as our 1st round of share plates. Highly recommend this restaurant. Definitely some if the best bites we had in Toronto. Wanted to try new flavours and chose Byblos. Visited with a group of friends to celebrate a birthday and it didn't disappoint. We got the hummus, truffle cheese pide and dumplings to start. For the mains we got the salmon, fried chicken, and the famous lamb accompanied with fries and two types of rice. Saw many reviews about the lamb and the portion & prices, and I was okay without it if it was $200 mentioned by another reviewer. Came here last week on our first date night of 2022, just before restaurants were going to close down once again. Upon entering, we loved the ambiance of the place and the waiter/waitress was pleasant throughout. I also loved the fact that all of the second floor seating had booths/couches which created a somewhat intimate experience. Disclaimer: I don't go out to eat a lot of Middle Eastern/Mediterranean food so I can't speak of how authentic the place is, although I have heard that it was quite authentic. Beef Tartare: 5/5 There were nice chunky bits of beef with an amazing combination of spices that makes my mouth water just thinking about it. The pickled chili did have a great kick but it would be nice if it was less vinegar-y in my opinion. Roasted Red Beets: 3.25/5 Now, don't get me wrong. The Roasted Red Beets were very good. I'm not a big fan of beets but I would eat these beets any day. The olive oil tasted really good, and the labneh was nice. The reason why I rate it a 3.5 was because of the Barbari bread that accompanied it. It was very hard on the outside, and dry on the inside. I wasn't sure if it was supposed to be like that since it was our first time trying Barbari bread but after looking it up online, it doesn't seem like it was supposed to be like that. It almost tasted as if they got it from the freezer before they put it in the oven. I also felt like it was pricey considering that if I paid $3 more, I can get beef tartare or manti dumplings. Lamb Ribs: 5/5 The lamb was so tender with an amazing flavor. You can tell that it was marinated well and cooked perfectly. Turkish Manti Dumplings: 5/5 Amazing dumplings accompanied by an amazing gravy/sauce Short Rib Kebab: 5/5 The dish came very thinly sliced, and it was super tender and juicy. It came with a nice hint of truffle as we ate more of it. There were so many other great dishes but this may have been the highlight of the dinner. Black Truffle Rice: 3.5/5 Where's the truffle? We tasted no truffle. Not even a hint of it. The rice itself was nicely seasoned with some crispy onions to add a little taste and texture but we were a bit let down by it. Had this place on my 'to go' list for quite awhile, finally decided to try it out. We ordered Turkish manti dumplings, lentil pide, wagyu lahmeh pide, middle eastern fried chicken, black truffle rice and trice cooked fries. We really enjoyed the fried chicken, it was crispy, flavorful and the sauces were a great compliment. Wagyu pide: the crust was nice and crispy, the filling was flavourful and juicy. Black truffle rice: savory with a hint of sweetness from the dates. A great compliment to other dishes. Turkish dumplings: juicy and flavourful, also a good portion for sharing. ***This review is for delivery so I kept the rating but will give comments in review*** Given that I live in Mississauga and can no longer easily access downtown in the pandemic, I miss Toronto food significantly. In fact, I've had cravings for Byblos in the past year. So, you can imagine how pleasantly surprised I was to learn that they were doing delivery via UberEats to Mississauga!!! I figured the food wouldn't last as well given the long commute, but it ended up pretty decent! There were a few dishes that didn't travel well, mainly the manti (cooled a bit and therefore lost its comforting charm), lamb ribs (again, cooled slightly so it was sweeter and stickier), and the pita (the condensation caused certain parts of it to become wet and moist; however, it was still quite soft and very warm!). The highlights were the roasted lamb shoulder - it was so nice to be able to make your own personalized wraps - and, of course, my favourite fig salad! A detailed review is as follows: Roasted lamb shoulder Don't be fooled by the appearance - this big fist-sized serving of meat is one chunky baby! The meat is packed tightly so it's very hefty. The gamey flavour is unmistakable, and the pickles and dips really helped balance and accentuate the profile. In fact, having the pickled radish on its own was not great, but combining it with the gamey lamb was delicious! Would definitely recommend. Fig salad Unsurprisingly, the salad wasn't affected by the long delivery commute. It was still as good as I remember! The sweet floral citrusy taste whet my appetite, combined with the tangy cheese, and I adored the crunch from the seeds and nuts. Manti Frankly, the manti was what I was most excited for - oh, how I adore Byblos' manti dumplings! Unfortunately, they cooled down a bit (and in my eagerness, I didn't heat them up) so the yogurt flavour was far more prominent. Still good with lots of complex flavour, but not amazing. Lamb ribs These sweet, sesame coated ribs were yummy, despite having cooled. Again, in retrospect, I should've heated them up at the time, but they were still nonetheless delicious! A bit on the small side, however - each rib was as long as my index finger with not a whole lot of meat. Black truffle uffle pide and rice This pide was good and still warm when it arrived. The dough was a little chewy but the earthy truffle flavour really came through. The rice was quite hot, despite the hour drive, but alas, the crispy onions and chickpeas on top had deflated. I am very happy with my experience with Byblos Downtown! I reserved a table online for dinner. When we arrived, we were seated upstairs, and I loved the decor and furnishings. It has a very cozy feeling but is still classy. Our server was very sweet and offered some great drink recommendations, and we ended up ordering a few dishes to share. Our favorites of the night were: the Turkish Manti Dumplings and the Middle Eastern Fried Chicken. I also absolutely loved their Marrakesh Garden cocktail. Went here for dinner the other day and it was actually not too bad finding a reservation on the same day. The restaurant is a three floor building with a candle lit decor inside which makes for a nice date night ambience. My husband and I had a few things to share including the lamb ribs, the Mediterranean spiced whole chicken and roasted cauliflower. The lamb ribs were really good - had a small bone in it which was easy to remove the meat from without having to use your hands. The spices on top had a nice sweet flavour to it which helped with the natural Haney taste of lamb. The cauliflower had a very strong cumin flavour to it which was interesting. The chicken had a few bone in pieces and few boneless. It was essentially fried chicken with sadly a few pieces that were uncooked therefore the 3 stars. This was a great find! So different than other stuff I typically would run across even among Mediterranean food. The fried eggplant was delicious and unique. It was almost like the same type of batter than I would find at Gus' World Famous Fried Chicken. But on eggplant. Yum. The tiger shrimp were tasty and the sauce it comes with goes well. 6 come in a dish. Wagyu lahmeh had good flavor and I woudl totally get it again. Just wish it was a little bigger - only 4 pieces. The black truffle rice is the priciest side but definitely something you would have a hard time finding elsewhere. Just get it. Short rib kebab very tender and better size than I anticipated. Ambiance/Service: (4 stars) The tables are separated from each other, and can fit about 6 people, anything more would be hard to accommodate. Due to covid they were pretty understaffed but the waiter kept running around trying to make us have the best experience possible . Parking: (5 stars) There is free parking at ImPark lot at 211 Adelaide Street. You do need to call the restaurant beforehand so they can register you. Even with the registration, we ended up getting a ticket. I went back to the restaurant to complain, and the manager just took a picture of the ticket and said he will handle it and we do not have to do anything about it. Octpus was great. the sauce was spicy and flavorful. the octopus was moist. lentil pide was quite good also. it was served very hot. the fresh warm flat bread went great with the delicious lentils tucked inside. the shish kebab was recommended by the server but was very disappointing. it didn't seem very traditional, and the flavor really fell flat. it lacked the spices that the other dishes had. the baklava might be an even bigger disappointment. Again i asked the server what to expect and they said nice things about it. I really wanted to love Byblos!! Unfortunately a few things fell short for me. We went on a Thursday evening around 6:30 and were seated promptly. Service was really good, personable and attentive, no issues there. The ambiance was nice, I noticed there is some wear in the decor, tables and seats. The restaurant could probably afford a bit of a facelift. Otherwise it's quite a beautiful restaurant, high ceilings, impressive bar and spacious seating. It was busy considering it was a weekday, and a mix of clientele, ranging from families with children to work colleagues meeting for a drink after work to couples and friends of all ages. I liked that the restaurant was casual but still felt special. Now for the food, we ordered 5 dishes, the olives, wagyu pide, fries, fried chicken and the manti. The manti and olives were served pretty promptly. The manti was the highlight of the meal, these gorgeous dumplings are smothered in yogurt and pomegranate molasses and filled with silky eggplant. The flavours and textures were comforting yet new and unique, this was the best dish of the meal. The olives were also really good, they were fried crispy and had some salty feta inside however for the price, this dish was quite expensive for only about a handful of olives. I think they could have also used a dipping sauce or some type of drizzle on top as they were quite salty so something creamy or acidic would have gone nicely with these, even a garnish would have made these feel a bit more deserving of the price/quantity. Next was the pide which we waited about 35 minutes for. Our waitress kept returning to the table to ensure drinks were filled and let us know our food would be our shortly but we waited a long time between courses, unfortunately. The table beside us actually arrived later than us and got their chicken before us so I'm not sure what's going on in their kitchen. The pide was really tasty but again, it was quite small and the amount of meat/cheese and sauce was a bit underwhelming. Also they said this was wagyu beef but it was a kind of braised, pulled beef so really I couldn't say if it was wagyu quality. I was hoping it would be chunks of steak, especially for the price but it was tasty, I just wish it was larger, even just the crust to be larger, it was so thin! Lastly was the chicken and fries, it sounded so good on the menu and it was lackluster. We have had plenty of amazing fried chicken in the city and this one was not up to par in my opinion. The serving size, again, was quite small. I think for two people it's fine but if you're a group of 4, each person is only getting a piece or so. The flavour was a bit bland, I'm not sure if there was much seasoning, I also didn't find it super juicy. The pickles were more like a garnish, very small amount but nice and tart. I also liked the sauce but it was described to me as hot honey but it was more like a vinegar type sauce. I don't know but this dish was underwhelming for me, I know it's popular but compared to other places I just wasn't impressed. The fries were just regular shoe-string style fries with a small amount of zataar seasoning on them. They were super salty unfortunately but the sauce they came with was good! For $9 though they could have been elevated a bit more. Overall this restaurant was good but not great. I know it's an unpopular opinion as it seems to be a favourite among a lot of Torontonians and tourists alike but I just think there are so many better places in the city. They call it Middle Eastern/Mediterranean but it felt all over the place. The decor is dated, the food has some hits and misses and the wait times were long between courses. Service was very nice so I will give them that. Unfortunately I'm not sure I'll return unless someone else is footing the bill at this point. Very outstanding experience. When we arrived, we were welcomed from an Italian guy (I think he was the owner) who briefly told us his experience. I already studied the menu at home, so I knew which dishes we had to try for sure. We ordered: hummus royale, manti dumplings, short beef rib. Hummus was amazing. I loved the soft taste and the consistence, and the meat was superlative. Also the bread they serve you with the hummus was delicious. Another amazing dish was the short beef rib. The meat was well cooked and the sauce with chili was perfect combined with the beef. Manti was another good plate. Very strong flavor. My husband didn't enjoy it because there was too pepper for him. Therefore we ordered another dish, the lamb pide, to conclude our experience. We liked also that one. I celebrated New Year's Eve at Byblos and the food was spectacular. There was a set menu for $125 a person which included a 5 course meal with many choices within each course. They provided many wonderful options, my accompanies and I were able to try almost the entire set menu and each component was super flavourful and high quality. The ambiance of the restaurant had a perfect New Year's Eve vibe. We had a beautiful table for four, And was also given complementary champagne for the table which was a extra special touch. First, I cannot give this restaurant five stars because it was impossible to make reservations through their website. We called ahead and left a voice message as our crew decided to head over after work on Friday night for a happy hour/small plate dinner. Upon arrival, we were informed that they do not take reservations over the phone and that we would have had to make them via Open Table. When I looked at the restaurant's website, the reservations tab did not indicate that reservations were only taken through Open Table. In fact, I could not find the link for Open Table on the web page. We were seated upstairs at the bar and the bar tender was out of this world great. I ordered the Mediterrean Mule without the honey. He was very accommodating and after I disclosed my food allergies, he would not let me dig into my plat of maple roasted beets until he verified that the glaze had no honey in it. Just FYI, there's no flashy sign or anything for their entrance - it goes with their classy/elegant vibe but it was certainly difficult to spot at night. Everything here is meant to be shared. We ordered the Turkish Manti dumplings, black truffle and cheese pide and sweet jeweled rice to share. The Turkish Manti dumplings were hands down my favourite. Wonderful restaurant across the board. Took several people from work and it was just incredible. While we tried virtually everything on the menu, there were some real standouts. Among the starters, , the hummus Royale with Wagyu, menti dumplings and fried eggplant were the standouts. The two salads were both good but the pear salad can't be missed, really unique flavors. I deducted one star for the expensive price for what the taste & portion size was and another for the ambiance of the patio. The patio did not have much decor in the sense that it made you feel like you were elsewhere rather than a side walk. I expected more from this higher end restaurant. Favourite dishes of the night: -Black truffle Pide: flat bread with truffle cream. Can't go wrong with truffle. -Short rib kebab: it's sort of like char siu (Chinese bbq pork) but so tender and melts in your mouth. Dishes that coasted in the middle: -Duck Kibbeh: okay flavour. The service seemed a little scarce...likely due to the pandemic labour shortage and lots of new staff as well as not enough staff. We're normally not very picky but I think the entire floor had only 2 or 3 servers. The missing lamb shoulder: we tried ordering this (as well as the tables beside us) but were told they only had large portions costing $200... huge disappointment especially since lamb shoulder could be carved apart... Inflation: Lots of dishes have experienced a pretty significant price hike (especially when I compare to my review 3 years ago!). Probably to make up for the increases in labor/food costs and the losses from the pandemic closures. Most dishes that were previously $14 are now $20+. Contemporary classic lounge fitting for a modern Mediterranean meal. Service: The memory of our server was amazing, and she offered some great suggestions for our meal. Had our order down, including the right additions and substitutions without having to write anything down. Was always topping up our water, and the servers cleared our plates/replaced them when they were dirty. Each and every dish was explained to us. Food: The lamb ribs were fragrant with the scent of sesame and very tender, definitely a must-get. Manti dumplings were interesting, but not a fan of the yogurt sauce. Pide was also delicious, but the cheese masked most of the truffle flavour. Wagyu was cooked perfectly, and the onion and black garlic complimented it very well. Would also get the short rib kebab again and the signature dish from day one the restaurant opened, the roasted lamb shoulder. Topped everything off with a delicious burnt honey ice cream, a perfect ending to the rich experience. Overall: Dishes were perfectly balanced and seasoned well with Mediterranean spices and flavours - perfect for sharing, although a bit pricey for the portion sizes. Modern take on traditional dishes served in a tapas format. Tip: Ask for seating upstairs for a more intimate/classy lounge (more dimly lit), main floor seating for a more formal dining experience. Definitely very pricey and can be hit or miss depending what you order, but overall really excellent. Lots of vegetarian options, I recommend the manti dumplings - they are a large portion, could easily be a main course! The pides are great too, lentil one especially but so is the truffle. Fried eggplant is sweet and sticky, excellent. Desserts great too. Service could be a bit more attentive. read more

Great ambiance with yummy food. I recommend making a reservation ahead of time or you might end up sitting by the bar table (unless you want to sit there then you don't have to worry about reservations ). My favorite food was the kebab, it's a must try! read more

Toronto has become one of my favorite cities, but until Byblos it was mostly because of the music scene. This place was selected because it was in the middle of downtown, had an interesting menu, and seemed to have a good vibe. Next to us a big table held a birthday with balloons and it was hard to tell if it was for a 42 year old or a 24 year old. The group and whole restaurant was eclectic in age range, and sophisticated in many ways. But that's not why 5 stars - they're for the Branzino and truffle rice. Plus the wine was top notch. Think both I and my dinner guest will long remember that fish. And frankly I could just go back to hang out. See you there! read more
