We eat here from time to time. A couple years ago my family had By George cater my Great Aunt Jean's 100th birthday celebration. We would eat here more often but honestly forget about it sometimes. The prices are fair, the portions are always very good, the food is always perfectly cooked, the flavor of all the food is awesome. Wow. The wife and I were staying nearby for some work requirements, and we found this site on Yelp. It's sort of out of the way, but not too much, off of I-70. All I can say is, HIDDEN GEM. If you are hungry and anywhere near Monessen, please, please - visit this restaurant. You WON'T be disappointed. While we were enjoying our drinks, George, the owner, stopped by and entertained us with the 2015 history of the establishment. He was most gracious! As was our server, Abby, who is a student at California Univ of PA. I had the Berkshire pork chop, and the wife had gnocchi. All we can say is OMG! The chop was tender, and the gnocchi with white sauce was almost sinful. Also, before dinner, George brought samples of his homemade marinara and white sauce for us to taste...wow! Celebrated an early birthday dinner for my husband with family. My sister-in-law raved about how good the food is and she was right! We thoroughly enjoyed everything. From the chicken and waffles, Berkshire pork chop, to shrimp Alfredo. I ordered the super food salad and it was delish!!! It was a pleasure meeting the owner, George. My husband and I are always looking for hidden gems. That being said, we search mostly in the Pittsburgh area to explore. I NEVER would have guessed one of our best finds is only 10 minutes from us! We were both absolutely blown away with our dinners tonight. We ordered togo, on-line. We were alerted immediately after our order that we were confirmed and 15 minutes later we were diving in. My husband got the Pork Chop and I had the chicken marsala. We are SO excited to order again and again. We have to try EVERYTHING! And so close to home!!! read more

Great atmosphere, servers are awesome and super friendly. The owner will come to the table and check on you to make sure that you are getting the best service. Grilled salmon with grits is to die for it and the craft beers selection is decent as well. Nice cozy and warm atmosphere for sure. read more

I deleted my former review. I tried by George again, two years later and it was much better. In my former review I complained about the seating. It was too tight. No ambience. When I went back I was able to sit behind the fireplace and had much more room. We ordered gyros and they were delicious. The hummus appetizer was also very good. The server was friendly and attentive. I'm glad I gave this place a second chance. I will be back. I just don't want to sit on the right of the door, just on the left! read more

Awesome food. My bf said it makes your mouth feel alive. I had the gyro salad, which I love. My bf had a special which was meat lovers penna. It had sausage, meat sauce, pepperoni and salami, it was fabulous. For an appetizer you have to try the gyro dip..it's very unique and amazing. The service is also top notch. George's son demitri was the dessert guy. His personal could sell anything. We shared a salted Carmel brownie with salted Carmel ice cream and homemade whipped cream..the perfect end to the meal. Ohhhhh baby. I'm so glad my coworkers suggested I try By George. It's one of the only non-chain restaurants close to my office, and I decided to order lunch there for pick-up. For a huge order, the wait was only 15 minutes (incredible) and the food was amazing. I ordered the cheeseburger with the shrimp in the old bay cream sauce with fries on the side. Incredible homemade ranch for the fries, I might add. The Old Bay cream sauce was the perfect amount of creamy meets salty. Burger was cooked perfectly with just enough pink (they asked me on the phone if I wanted no pink or pink). Very friendly service and overall an amazing decision. I will definitely keep going back here for my work lunches. read more

One of our favorites in the Valley - their gyros are some of the best, their house salad is a favorite, and their specials are amazing. If you choose one dish to eat here and only one - go on pastichio night. Their current location is expanded and it's fine to show up with a small party, but if you have a large group call ahead. read more

My brother, niece, wife and I had dinner here. We grew up in the area and returned for the weekend to attend a family event. 'By George' is an excellent restaurant. We started off with hummus and with grape leaves. The hummus had more garlic than I like but my wife and brother really liked it. The grape leaves were excellent and they were served warm. My wife had the grilled shrimp with garlic, onion mashed potatoes and grilled vegetable ratatouille. My brother and I had the penne with hot peppers and sausage. The sauce was excellent and the dish was spicy enough that by the end of dinner, I had beads of sweat on my forehead. The pasta was served with a great mixed greens salad. We also had lobster bisque and that was excellent. I will return to eat here again when I am back in the area. read more

If I was Guy Fiere I'd say this place took me to flavor town. Worth a visit. I recommend the chicken and waffle sandwich.

Gyro Salad is the way to go for lunch! Soups are typically really good also. Menu for lunch is a little pricey but your getting quality food. Waiters are awesome and food is prompt (which is good if you have a limited time for lunch). read more

My husband works in the area and was telling me about this place for months, so when he suggested I come meet him for lunch one day I knew exactly where I wanted to go! By the looks of their website (no offense website designer) I was picturing an old smoky bar, but was pleasantly surprised to find a bright and trendy restaurant! I started with their gyro dip which was unbelievable! Next time I get it ( there will definitely be a next time) I think I may ask for more gyro meat in it, but honestly it was so good I didn't even mind. The pita chips that come with it are my favorite kind, soft but still crunchy (aka homemade). The by George salad was everything you look for in a Pittsburgh style salad! I also tried a bite of hubby's flatbread of the day and it was so yummy. You can tell a lot of love and thought has gone into this place!! I can't wait to return! read more

Tonight was our first time eating at By George. This place is awesome. It's very new very clean and very well ran. The waitress worked great together. I had the Surf n chicken my wife had the Greek pasta. Our meal came out quick and they were the best meals we've both had in awhile. Then the waitress told us about the desserts. The cheesecake in particular. The vanilla bean cheesecake was so good my wife took one small fork full off mine and immediately told the waitress to bring her a piece. One of the best places to eat in the Mon Valley. The service is excellent and the food is delicious. The other night, I tried the Berkshire Pork Chop for the first time and it was fantastic! Juicy, tender, cooked to perfection, and seasoned with a cajun rub this pork chop is served with a choice or two sides which makes it a very satisfying meal. You also can't go wrong with one of their gyros. From the appetizer menu, I oft order dolmathes. The new location is also better for accommodating the larger crowds they get. I have enjoyed George's food when he had a place at a firemen club in Monessen. Also he has catered two dinner parties for me. I have never been disappointed. Now George has his own restaurant. The menu is more extensive than before and the quality has not lessen. The draft beer selection is outstanding. Not just your typical light beers. The bottle beers are varied and shows a great deal of thought. The waitstaff is friendly and quite efficient. Please do yourself a favor and enjoy some great food. read more

Discontinued Wings but are still on the menu, food is average and the Gyro's are just ok. Prices are too high for the quality of food.

We decided to try somewhere new and we were very glad we did! The food was excellent, especially the New York strip steak, it was cooked perfectly with great flavor. One of the best steaks ever, and we have been to some great steak houses. It is a family run restaurant and the owners of the restaurant were very friendly and hospitable. They made sure everything was good and took the time to talk to make sure we were enjoying our experience. We will definitely be back! read more
