A more 'Sophisticated' Hot Dog at Bumps, lol....was Delicious actually!!
Elton W.

Bumps Lodge at the Base of Buttermilk Mountain takes eating at a ski mountain to a more civilized level. Case in point - although they had French's Yellow Mustard for my Hot Dog, they also had a more 'sophisticated' Grey Poupon Dijon Mustard, lol. Actually loved that they had that option. If you've never had Dijon on your Dog, you should try it, it's great and I prefer it actually. The lodge is nice & airy, with super-tall wood beamed ceilings, is immaculately clean and have really tasty food options like made-to-order pastas and an on-site bakery with delicious muffins, pastries, etc. Really great spot for breakfast or lunch, but if you have the ability to, a much better option would be to take the ski lift up to the Top of Buttermilk mountain and eat at The Cliffhouse lodge which also offers good food and stunning panoramic views of the surrounding mountains! That being said, I still think Bumps is great and Recommend it!

Grilled cheese pan fried with cheese seared into the bread, what more can you ask for? Much thanks to Pete, an awesome bartender.

The crispy chicken sandwich is honestly one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. Perfectly crispy, juicy, and balanced with just the right amount of heat. The kale salad and fries were also excellent, and everything came out quickly despite how busy the place was. The service was upbeat and welcoming, and the whole experience felt effortless. If you want a fun, laid-back lunch or dinner in Aspen without sacrificing quality, this is absolutely the place.

The service was wonderful, we got our food very quickly, and the ambiance was adorable. A little loud but nothing too crazy. The food itself was fine. We ordered the duo dip, French fries, the French dip, and the chicken sandwich. The guac and the other dip were really good and we loved the chips too. The fries are pretty much what you'd expect, except once they got to room temperature they became super hard and not very edible. My husband said the French dip meat was good and tender, pretty good flavor overall. I had the chicken sandwich which was huge! They split the sandwich into three wedges and I could only finish two. I liked the texture of the chicken was nice and I liked the slaw on it, however, the flavor overall was kind of lacking. I would say it was a bit overhyped. Overall, it was a nice experience for a decent price and I'm glad we went. Would we go back? Probably.

It was also my first time trying Ethiopian influenced food, and it felt like a great introduction. The dish had warmth, depth, and a kind of layered spice profile that felt both new and comforting at the same time. Overall, a really memorable meal in Aspen especially the oxtail, which alone is worth going for.

There is a sweet deck attached for eating outside, which we took advantage of the first time we went. The restaurant interior is just as charming, very clean and modern aesthetic, offering a lovely place to eat. The menu is fresh and wholesome ingredients. We got the same things both times, the Thai noodle salad and the tomato soup - both to die for !! So good. The second time we went we also got a cappuccino, which we regret not getting the first time. The staff is welcoming and super nice, the service was extremely fast and each time we were very well taken care of. We found out that Mawas is a Michelin guide restaurant which is hugely notable on how good this place is. You definitely won't regret going to Mawas kitchen.

They were staffed well but our waitress made a mistake, she took our entire group order by memory but forgot to enter one dish into the order entry for the kitchen and when all the food arrived we were short one order of Kung Pao chicken. When quizzed about it, she replied, "it's coming" so we assumed it was just a minute or two out. Ten minutes later no food. We asked again and she said curtly, "it's coming ". Needless to say by the third time we asked, everyone was done eating and it was still " it's coming bullshit". Only after we confronted the waitress and asked for the manager, who begrudgingly removed the dish from our meal, did she confess that she made a mistake and was afraid to tell the staff in the kitchen to prioritize our missing meal. The food we did receive was good and the menu options were good. The original order came in a timely manner and the restaurant was worth another chance but it was a frustrating experience. I give the food four stars and the service one star. Once again, if you make a mistake, just admit it and figure out how to make it right. Avoiding the reality of the situation and assuming the customer is stupid never wins. The manager there was subpar too. His interaction was probably the most disappointing.

Split 3 ways and including tax/tip, the bill came out to nearly $40 per person. That being said, the banh mi I got was quite good - packed w/flavor from the kimchi and the sauce; though this is probably the first time i've had a banh mi without any cilantro... The thai coconut soup, though, was a bit of a let down. It had all the right flavors, but was in dire need of some acidity and sweetness. Without that, it was quite one-dimensional. Service was decent. We were seated outside so quite a lot of people around and so it often felt quite cramped. Overall, not bad but there's definitely better out there.

When asked if they had changed the recipe, our server replied "it depends on who made it" - really?!? I didn't leave this time with that warm and cozy feeling of being a guest at their place, instead now I was just another customer! cheers!
