Was here Thursday night. Food was good and our waitress was fabulous. All around great night until leaving and the big mouthed drunk bartender starts stopping off her mouth. Will never return! This place was unbelievable, totally exceeded expectations! I have heard good things but our meals were all really tasty! Three of us went for lunch and the place was busy but the service was still solid. We ordered the Nachos as an app and they were plentiful, more than the 3 of us could finish- very tasty!! For our entrees we ordered the hanger steak, the penne vodka and the skinny sausage. The penne vodka was one of the best I have ever tasted and I have it a lot. The skinny sausage came with peppers, onions and white beans really good and the steak was solid. Overall I was more than pleased with Butterfields, this will be a regular stop every time I head back to Long Island! read more

Disappointed, after having a blast New Year's Eve, we decided to go back with 2 other couples and show them our new find. To start, our 8:30 seating was spot on time. The waitress was very friendly, and took our drink orders promptly. Great drinks and everyone is happy. Then it starts. After placing our orders, we find out they are sold out of 3 out of 6 of ordered dishes, 10-15 minutes later, 1 of the specials ..... No bid deal. Appetizers are served, the mussels looked great, stuffed artichoke I'm told was also very good. My fried calmari was rubbery, someone forgot to fry it. Then 10 minutes later, their sold out of another dish. The veal milinase ... Which 3 of us orders, only 2 portions left. I wish I passed on mine. I was told it would be butterflied and pounded thin, Sounded great .... Except it was served as a 2 inch thick chop. Tasted good, but not what I expected after out waitress described it totally different. Then coffee comes, no spoons. It took a few minutes to flag down some one to get us a few spoons .... Perhaps it was an off night ... Perhaps it isn't ? Food was tasty ... But the inconsistent food, service and out of many menu choices at 8:30 .... Lots of great, tasty food! My fiancée April and I set out on a mission: to try as many things as we could. We had a gift certificate, so we decided to order 3 courses (appetizer, salad, entree) and see if we had room for dessert. (Spoiler: we didn't.) Appetizers: Shrimp pot stickers with a wonderful, sweet dipping sauce and a small salad in a wonton "cup". It wasn't like there was chopped up shrimp in some pot stickers, or that the pot stickers were filled with a bit of shrimp and some other filler stuff; there was a whole shrimp in a pot sticker. Mmm. My dish was butternut squash soup with cinnamon Kahlua cream. Heavenly. Our salads were great. Mine had roasted red peppers, fried onions, pecans; hers had apples (well, 3 small pieces of apple), seeds, and a tangy vinaigrette. We ordered the small salads, which were larger than we expected. Then there was maple walnut crusted salmon topped with apple-bacon compote served over broccoli raab and grilled sweet potato. A very tasty dish, but I thought there may have been one element too much. Not sure which thing I'd get rid of, though. Then there was yellowfin tuna on a bun with wasabi-aioli spread, lettuce, and tomato, which April rated highly, calling it "tasty, but not for the weak of sinus." This was served with French fries which seemed to me to be very clearly from some frozen satchel of lost and forlorn potatoes. The service was marvelous. The hostess took our coats before we sat down, and the waitress was always spot-on. Food took the perfect amount of time to get to us, considering how much digestion needed to take place between courses, and in spite of the group of 20 seated nearby. Decor is warm, lots of wood grain, red, and yellow, all dressed up for the holiday season. Then, the last two feet of wall to the ceiling are black and industrial, seemingly belonging to a different restaurant entirely. Also, the room tends to be pretty loud, even when it appears to be mostly empty. Overall, the strongest course in my opinion was appetizers. There were several more we wanted to try, but couldn't possibly find another cubic inch to stuff. Conveniently, their happy hour special is half-price drinks and appetizers, so we'll have to go back. read more

I had my baby shower here in July and was very pleased with the service, staff and food from start to finish. The servers were constantly coming around, making sure my guests were happy and kept making sure everyone had their drinks and water. The timing of the buffet and when we did games and unwrapping gifts were aligned perfectly. I didn't want to be in the middle of lunch still before I started a new game or before starting the gifts so the communication on their end was very good. The main person I dealt with was Michael. He was very professional and courteous. And the food was amazing! I especially loved the stuffed shells. That's saying a lot because I can easily make Italian at home and usually it's so much better than ordering out, but this definitely changed my mind. read more

The food was really good. I got a Caprese salad (fresh mozzarella with tomatoes, prosciutto with a pesto and a balsamic drizzling). For dinner I got the Gorgonzola Grilled Chicken Pasta. The food was very good and the portion size of the pasta was FANTASTIC! (I hate when restaurants give you small portions). The atmosphere was nice and the staff was very friendly. My only complaint was that they rushed us quite a bit. It wasn't done to be rude, but everything came out so fast and was cleaned up/wrapped up the second they saw us finish. I like going here the food is good and sometimes ( I guess depending on the chef? ) its incredible. Very friendly staff and a very warm local vibe. They have really good live music too and Im beyond thrilled that my and my friends favorite dance band Cruise Control will be here on June 1st. We are going to make a night of it. Stop by any time but if you can get out June 1st check out the band you wont be disappointed if you like to dance! They keep ya up all night and even join us on the dance floor, let us sing along. Went here on recommendation from a native LI resident for a business lunch. Wasn't expecting much. Parking lot was empty for the 30 minutes I waited for my co-workers. Wasn't even sure it was open. Went to Butterfields to meet friends. We were looking for a place central to where we all live. None if us had been here before. The entire experience was bad. When we arrived the place was empty (5:30pm on a Saturday) . There were 3 other people at the bar, yet the bartender was quite inattentive to us. We were a party of 4. When we sat at about 5:50, there were no other people in the restaurant. Our Waiter took about 15 minutes to bring menus. He could not answer basic questions about the food. At one point when we asked about the food (Eggplant Parm) he said he couldnt tell us if it was good because the Chef was new). After we ordered our food it took 40 minutes for the appetizers to come out (Butterfields Famous Meatballs were awful but the stuffed mushrooms were good). After that we waited another hour and 15 minutes before our entrees came. During this time we only saw our Waiter once. We ordered drinks that never came. Finally we asked one of the Food Runners where our drinks were and he got them for us. Whe the dinner did arrive it was very disappointing. One person had a steak that was overcooked but tasty. The Chicken Parm was average. The Eggplant Parm was very salty and overcooked. One person had the Pasta with Braised Short Ribs. The dish was ice cold and the meat was chewy. It had obviously been sitting out for quite some time. When we told the waiter, he said "Sorry about that" and walked away. When we finally got our check and paid, it was 8:40pm. Three hours after we sat and we didnt even order dessert. On our way out, we did complain to the Manager who seemed genuinely concerned about our experience but at that point there wasnt much he could have done. Ots a shame because the atmosphere was nice and it seemed like a fun place. The service was just VERY slow and inattentive and the food was poor. We will not be back. read more

When I first walked in I was greeted by a lovely lady with a wonderful smile, Renee who directed me where to go and asked to take my coat. Love it! The tuna is the best on Long Island. Have it as an appetizer or a main course with delicious homemade steamed dumplings, on a bed of rice and spinach.Jerry is a great chef especially when it comes to any type of fish. If you go to the bar with a group of people and put a bunch of money on the bar then watch out. The bartenders are not the best at subtracting. For example a $5 Guinness was paid from the pile when the bartender picked up a $10 and threw a $1 back on the pile. Maybe tips are automatically taken out. With a group of people I didn't want to make a scene. So if you do pile and pay don't all turn your backs to the bar. read more

Was here a few times when previous owner ran it. The place was great. First time here today with new management which needs a lesson on how to run a business. Ordered food and was served almost an hour later. Expensive. 22.00 for chicken parmigiana. No bread served unless you request it. Given a small cup of twigs that are supposed to be bread sticks and crackers. Once the check arrived there was a notice of a 4% discount for cash otherwise the bill was higher. Poor management. We had our rehearsal dinner here and I was blown away with the service and the food. We had a buffet and it was great!!!! The waiters were prompt and attentive. The manager was so nice and helped us with everything. He even put lights on, on the dance floor so the kids could dance to them. We had a Canoli cake that was so good!!!! They decorated it in our wedding colors and it was beautiful. The price was also great. I definitely recommend this place for any occasion! read more

Heard the place had a big makeover so went tonight to check it out. We had a reservation for 2 and when we arrived we were told the table wasn't ready but there were several empty and set tables in the dining room. I was a little put off because I had a reservation. We sat at the bar and it wasn't very busy either and it still took 5 mins to get greeted and served. We were asked to take the table shortly after the drink arrived. Very not smooth transition from bar to dining room. We ordered $12 Clams Casino, a dinner size $18 Cobb salad to share and then a $36 skirt steak with shrimp. I asked for the courses to be brought out one at a time and told the server we would be sharing everything. After rushing around all week with work we were looking forward to trying something new and not be rushed. The clams were good. The salad and steak and shrimp both arrived at the same time which was exactly what I asked not to happen! The salad was good but it was textbook, the steak was small and over marinated, the shrimp tasted bad and one of them was a half of a shrimp, the potatoes were under cooked. No one came back to ask if we were satisfied. We went there hungry and we ate the food. There was also a note in the bill holder that there was a pay with cash discount. That was weird! Dropped a$100 bucks and left feeling used. Not going back anytime soon. read more

Don't take sides, your job is to serve and tend bar. Do such and you will make more money. Don't mess up your money because you can't close your mouth. I cannot thank Butterfields enough for my perfect rehearsal dinner for my past May wedding. The food is to die for the the service is impeccable. We had a portion of the restaurant set aside for just us, which gave us a very intimate and special feel. After a wonderuful dinner and beautiful cake, it was time dance. The DJ came out on this Saturday night and I felt like it was my wedding already. I had a blast dancing with all my family and closest friends. Just attended a shower at Butterfield's. What a great disappointment. I really felt sorry for the person that hosted it and spent a great deal of money. Although the food was good, the place was freezing cold (we had to wear our coats), the manager was unfriendly and the servers was totally understaffed. We were having dessert with the dirty dinner dishes still on the table. The bread was served after we got food from the buffet. All in all a disaster!! Went on a weeknight with 5 others. I ordered stuffed lobster tails ,they were cooked perfectly but had very little stuffing in them, the sides were very good. 2 guests had chicken parm and the pasta was just almost raw. had to send it back and then they cooked it right. Roasted chicken was cooked perfectly.The waiter wasn't bad but not great either...just a bit odd. The worst part was how long the food took to come out. Wow!! A hidden gem. Can't believe we have never been here before. Started with the AMAZING meatball/ricotta appetizer. Hands down the best yet. For entrée my wife had the sesame crusted tuna which was excellent. I had the Bull burger as I was craving a really good burger and it was truly good also (with the egg on top!) Paired with a great wine selection we were recommended by our attentive waitress, Susan. We met Jerry the owner who couldn't be any nicer, a true gentleman. Made sure everything was just right and even remembered our names as we said good nite. If you're looking for a great place to dine, I highly recommend this restaurant. 2012 update: Frigid dining area on a 45-degree February afternoon. Their 'Specials' are derivative of the played out menu, not at all innovative since they know they can coast by with errors like leaving typos on the stale menus & hiring waitresses who don't make the slightest attempt to even know what a dish is (when a customer is asked by their server what Creme Brulee is, you know you're in trouble). The liberties they have the audacity to try and take are baffling: after substituting greens for bacon on the tuna BLT 'special', the wait staff returns to inform this patron that 'I entered your order wrong so you're going to have steak instead of salad' -- say wha? Following another 10+ minutes on top of the already-35 minute wait for food, I was graced with a greasy, overdressed bed of greens, sans tuna. The tuna ultimately arrived, overly peppered rather than blackened, and cold all around -- peculiar. The story is unfinished without mentioning the build-up to the arrival of the aforementioned creme brulee: when asked what 'flavors inspired daily' meant in the description serving as subtext of the menu item, the waitress responded 'well, I'm not sure, do you wanna just get it and take a chance?' To her delight, my co-diner took a risk that didn't land him in ill health. Well, at least they handled accepting our payment without a hiccup. No surprise there. read more

This could be a great place. And it really depends on who you get as a sever of bartender. There is one bartender who will discriminate against you if you are young and/or not wearing a suit. She is rude, and curses like a sailor with her cigarette raspy voice. Horrible bartender. The suits get served quicker than the regular Joe's. And she will just ignore the $%*& out of you. And if you are so lucky to get served, she will even mess up your order. Find another line of work lady. Your rotten attitude shtick just doesn't cut it. Like I said, the food is not bad at all. One person at the table asked for a very rare steak sandwich that came out medium well. The waitress never offered to replace it when it was brought to her attention. Haven't eaten here but I called to book a reservation for tonight after purchasing a Living social deal and was rudely told by the manager that they could not accommodate us even though we were from out of state. I could have dealt with the fact of being turned away but it was the attitude of the man. Glad we aren't going to be dining here because their completely unprofessional manner of handling things would no doubt be evident in the food service. Until they get a manager with some class I'd highly recommend skipping this place - god forbid you even attempt to use a promotional deal. read more
