Because of increasing food prices, we recently purchased a deep freezer. Our intent was to buy an order from Butler Meat Co. we were attracted to the more-than reasonable prices. We ordered the $179 package. Our order was packed and ready the following day. No money was required up front, and the staff was incredibly helpful! We have just had a pork chop dinner. In short, fantastic! Some of the best chops I've ever had! So far, three meals, three winners! Great Salisbury Steaks, delicious stew meat! I'd thought about Costco, but I wanted to make sure the meat was the finest I could get my hands on. I went to Butler's. I am so happy to have made that choice. Recently visited Butler Meats to pick up some high quality steaks for the BBQ. What a great experience! Squeaky clean and filed to the brim with delicious spices, sauces, mixes, pickled asparagus, green beans, and who knows what else. I will definitely allow more time to look at every shelf on my next visit. What can I say about the beautiful, fresh meats on display except WOW! I chose two amazing TBones nicely marbled, just the right amount of fat, and no gristle running through the meat and a plump, juicy, sirloin. Yummmmm! We used a simple dry seasoning combo and the flavor was amazing! Tender and moist! No sauce, just the steak & seasoning. Anyway, definitely give this nice little butcher shop a try before you run to the local big box store. We are very lucky to have a butcher like this so close by. I first became aware of Butler Meats by sampling a delicious pulled pork slider from their booth at the Carson City Farmers Market. No sauce just the meat in a bun and sooo good. I also sampled their sausages, also delicious. The booth attendant told me that the store serves sandwiches as well as selling cuts of meats and dressing game. So I stopped by and ordered a French Dip with provolone. The beef and ajus were so flavorful and the price is value for your money. They also have subs and I will try them and let you know. The shop is located in a strip mall on Carson St. and you could miss it but don't. They also have their own label sauces. Closed Sunday and Monday I think. Prompt friendly service. read more

I recently splurged for our very first family gathering and bought a $90 rib roast from Butler Meats. I didn't bother looking at it until the day it was going into the oven, which was a holiday and most stores were closed, but since I spent so much money on it I had faith it would be worth it. What I got was a big hunk of fat. Plain and simple. It was tender and what meat there was tasted okay but there was TOO MUCH FAT! I'm not super picky and I understand there will be some fat but this was bad. Not really knowing if it was just me or if that's just the way the cut is, I purchased the same cut from a grocery store for about $60 cheaper about a week later and it was absolutely delicious, tender and had very minimal fat. I'm sorry for the bad review but I'm more sorry I wasted my money. I won't be going back, I'll stick with Sprouts. read more

Good old fashion customer service..The bacon is tasty. The Italian sausage and hot links are very good too. I wish they had fresh natural hot dogs with the casing. The ones that snap when you bite into them. They had some but they were frozen. They also do spiral hams for the holidays. They take orders for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners!! If you are a hunter don't even think of using this company to cut up your wild game, unless you want to pay too much and don't mind getting only 50% of it back. Also they hide the real practice of weighting in or out of your meat, even though their price is based on the weight of the meat. In my case, they underreported the check in weight so as to short us on how much they returned. We also noticed that they sell wild meat. Is some of what they sell from our game? Also we suspect that our meat may have been mixed with other wild game as it was not separated into boxes for us allready at the time we picked it up. read more

Have gone in a couple times now recently, got the turkey pesto panini the first time and then went back in and got the club panini with pepper jack, both were super good for only $5 can't beat that for the quality! They also have the ability to make amazing looking full on deli sandwiches, but will try that when I have someone to share with, not a big lunch eater, but I'm on the go all the time and never on my way home, so it's the perfect place to grab a quick bite. Owner David is super nice and staff very friendly. Their meat selection looks amazing, but again, not on my way home. The inside is clean, cute, and well worth a stop. What happens when you treat good customers like weak links? They leave and take their business elsewhere. I am delighted to report that Centro Market will do custom orders of frozen turkey necks (30#). From the exact same supplier. For 27 cents per pound less. The same exact order cost me $43.70 at Butler and $35.70 at Centro Market. Up until recently I had been to Butler once every 2-3 months for the past 2.5 years, mostly for special orders of frozen turkey necks for my dog. In March, I called up to place an order and gave my name. The butcher who took the order asked me if I was a new customer and I told him no, I'd ordered this same order before. He then told me I needed to pay a deposit. I asked him why, since I'd been ordering for several years and had never paid a deposit. He explained that some customers order and don't pay and "that a chain is only as strong as its weakest link." I was almost out of necks, which is a daily kennel incentive for my pup, so I went down there to pay the deposit (because I sure as hell am not giving my credit card number over the phone to have someone write it down and then leave it up for grabs). I let them know I wasn't happy about it and why. The guy that took my order on the phone is the smug redhead--he actually said that he hadn't dealt with me before. Not the case. The dude has checked me out himself half a dozen times. I won't be back for turkey necks or anything else. read more

I bought the 'family' meat pack from theses crooks and it was garbage. Poor quality meat, mislabeled cuts, and I wont even speak on the "beef ribs" because I'll let the pictures do that for me. So the chicken they provide in the meat pack was cheap Winco quality birds, the "pork spareribs" were picnic style cheap cuts, and every steak cut was poor quality. What they advertise in the store front case is a misleading representation of crap that comes hidden in the freezer paper. Oh and what kind of scumbags cut the meat out of ribs and basically sell you bones. Stay away from this shady business at all cost. read more

I am giving Butler Meats 2 stars as they at least made an attempt at making this right. In addition, for the most part I have no proof, other than personal experience. My review is in reference to their game processing--deer specifically. I am new to northern Nevada (Southern Nevada prior) and was unaware to most game processors out here but have since learned the better priced places to go. I brought my deer to this shop as I like to give my local businesses my money however I was rubbed wrong on two occasions right off the bat when I arrived to drop off my animal: First, I was told they were going to charge a $25 fee to clean my animal as there was some hair and dirt from the skinning process. Second, as I was driving away I was thinking about my hang weight -63lbs. By buddy and I dropped our deer eight feet apart and his was noticeably smaller. We couldn't even get mine off the ground when carrying it after gutting. Two hours after dropping mine off he arrived in Vegas and his weighed in 10lbs more!!! The next business day I called and spoke with David (owner) he claims he re-weighed it and it was right at 63 lbs. After telling him about my buddies deer weighing more when it was a lot smaller he had nothing to say--I should have gone in to see the weight. My last processor brought you inside to show you the weight. My wife went and picked up my deer today. They initially tried to charge an additional $20 for a disposal fee for a total of $180; she about died as we used to pay $70 for deer processing in Vegas. After voicing her dissatisfaction he took off the extra charges which I will say we appreciated (hence the extra star). When she got home and went through everything we only had 7, 1lb packs of hamburger!!!! And that's with me telling them no stew meat, grind it all. Really butler? Total processed weight was 35lbs (57% of hang weight....). Don't go here people, I lift 50lb sacks of feed for our animals and I will tell you there is no way my deer was only 63lbs. With all this said, hey Butler, hope you enjoy my deer. read more

Consistency and good quality are earmarks of a solid product. When it comes to meat, freshness and the butcher's knowledge of cuts of meat are also important. Every time I come to Butler meats, I am delighted with the experience. Whether I am getting chicken Cordon Bleu, some sort of exotic cut of meat, hand made sausages, meatloaf or perfectly cut filet mignon, all of my purchases, and the resulting meals have been excellent. All of the meats are wrapped fresh from the cabinet and you can pick which ever pieces you want. I generally also ask for recommendations of what may be particularly good, new or a variety of meat that I haven't tried before. All of the employees seem to have a decent knowledge base, are friendly and many have been there for quite some time. Prices are reasonable and fair. You can also get local eggs as well as Butler meats varieties of spices and bottled products. Don't forget the bacon to top off your order. Bacon goes with everything, so even if you don't need it, buy some anyways. If you need a deer or other game processed, they may be able to help you as well. read more

This was the WORST EXPERIENCE I've ever had at a butcher. There's just two of us at home now so I got the couples package. The first night we got home and we decided to try the NY strip. It wasn't great.Wasn't bad, but not great. The next night we tried the orange roughy. It smelled AWFUL. Okay, Nevada is a landlocked state. I get it, these are beef people. The night after that we tried the stuffed pork chops. Everything SMELLED LIKE ROT. I cooked the pork chops and they were meh, until my mother got into her stuffing and found mold. MOLD inside her pork chop. We were furious, but just decided that Butler's had lost some customers. Last night was the kicker though. We opened up our filet mignons and found two 'filets' the size of a half dollar. One was rotten over 50 percent of it's surface. Now I understand that steaks are aged but this was ROTTEN. We had decided to have surf and turf with the filets of sole, since the steaks were so small. My gosh, I had never, ever met a fish so bony that wasn't still alive. Our 'pounds of chuck' weren't even a pound. Most of them were half a pound, some less. This was awful from the get go. There were two kids working the day I ordered our package, and the young girl didn't know how to work the cash register. I don't eat veal, so we had to get more chuck substituted. I'm just disappointed, frankly. Now I understand that since I paid with an EBT card that they might have thought that they could pull the wool over an uneducated person.Either way, I'm not going back. I'd give -0 stars if I could. These people are liars. Simple as that. I've only dealt with them once and that was more than enough. I do have to say that it was a while ago, but my experience was so utterly shady and abysmal that, considering this place somehow has such high ratings, I had to let you all know the truth. It's pretty simple. Trying to eat locally, we decided to give the local butcher our business. We ordered a bulk order of pork roasts, steaks, chickens, etc... Everything was described/advertised as "fresh" and "cut to order". That was a complete lie. Foolishly trusting a "mom & pop" business, we didn't check our order before we got home. Everything was frozen! I'm sorry, but Frozen and Fresh are not the same! When I get meat from a butcher, I want to be able to go home and divide and separate it as my family needs, but when it's frozen, that isn't possible. Come on, who knows how long ago that was shoved into their freezer?! The 2 pork roasts were ridiculously mismatched in size (something we could have remedied had they not been frozen solid at purchase) and full of odd, apparently unconnected bones (added weight?). The "fresh Petaluma chickens" that were advertised were actually small, frozen Tyson chickens like you can get from every grocery store. The ground beef was unusually fatty and greasy once cooked (low grade?). And the FROZEN beef steaks were so cartoonishly mis-sized that we could never mange a fair, balanced meal. Every single thing about our purchase was wrong and ridiculous.We called and emailed, but none of our concerns were ever addressed. Really, not even a "Go To HELL!" from the owner/mgmt. Absolutely nothing. We were completely ignored by them. I mean, they already had our money. Why bother, right? Horrible quality, false advertising and unbelievably-bad customer service! STAY AWAY! For some reason, they seem to be an institution in Carson, but after my experience, I genuinely don't understand how they stay in business. I will never give them another penny. They are shameless, unrepentant con-men! We buy our meat at the Farmer's Market now. At it is FAR better, all around! read more

This place is highway robbery! I brought them my deer because I was in a pinch. I usually process my own bucks! They shorted me on my meat, cut very lazily and too fast. There is still bone in on steaks which helps them with their weight so they can pinch and sinu on everything! Not impressed one bit. Didn't even season the breakfast sausage and there was tons of cartilage in the mix. Worst place to bring big game and they charged me $240 for a crappy result. I have lived in Carson for 22 years. I have never stopped in to Butler meats. I have heard it is good. So today I tried it. I have been missing out. I had a sandwich and it was very good. I have already been avoiding this place since I was treated rudely by the younger guy that works there when I was there last, several years ago, when I was asking different prices as they have none of them displayed in the counter case. I just figured they didn't want my business if I was going to ask what the price per pound of tri tip was, it was about double than the local grocery store by the way. Today I've just had it ! We got family special #5 as a gift from my father in law he went down there and got it and brought it straight to our house. Because it was a pretty gracious gift I figured ok I'll Gove it a try. Well first of all even though they advertise that the packs are "made fresh daily" everything was completely frozen solid, with no dates on the packaging of any kind. First thing we tried was the pork c/s spareribs and after thawing in the fridge overnight I opened the package to a huge disappointment. Brow edges, freezer burned slab of fat bone and gristle. Litarally not exaggerating when I say that of the total mass only about 20% was edible. How that was supposed to feed a family of four as advertised I have no idea, I even considered chopping it up for stew as I can do amazing things with less than prime cuts but this was ridiculous. Ended up costing me money because we went out to eat that night. Today same thing, thawed a pack of beef ribs since yesterday morning in the fridge. Opened it up today, brown edges, freezer burned, and what's that... they actually cut off ALL of the meat leaving nothing but scrap dog bones. I'm so furious read more
