Stopped here for breakfast after walking over the Brooklyn bridge on our vacation. My teenage son got the lemon lavender cake, and two frittatas. He was want fond of the frittatas but I thought they tasted great. He ordered the breakfast sandwich instead and my mom got the same. They both enjoyed them. I had the avocado toast and it was amazing! Coffee was great! Only complaint was the attitude of the lady at the counter when we asked about getting just a regular egg sandwich which wasn't on the menu. Just had a rude tone with the response. Super cute cozy coffee shop in Dumbo! Great view of the Brooklyn bridge and the aesthetic is fiddle leaf fig heaven! Very busy and crowded in the morning, I didn't get my order so I had to go ask them for it. And there is a one hour table limit so you couldn't come here to work. Butler was a 5 minute walk from the hotel we were staying and I've seen a lot of great reviews about their baked goods so we had to stop by before heading home to pick some things up to try! In the many times we walked by, we saw a huge line of people waiting- either to order or to dine in so we placed an online order for pickup to avoid the wait. Luckily when we arrived to pick up, there was no line but we got out goodies all packed and ready to go. I also ordered a latte from them. The latte itself was really good- I asked that they add some simple syrup in it and it was a nice balance of coffee for my taste buds in the morning! We ordered a few things to try- french toast cup- it was delicious. The everything crufffin was also a fan favorite at home! We ordered 3 croissants- one regular, one ham and cheese and one triple chocolate and all three were a hit amongst the kids and adults! Will be back when we are in the area next time! read more

Butler seems to be doing a great job at protecting its employees while serving its customers. There's no indoor ordering - everything is done with a line outside and ordering from a side window. It actually works pretty well, customers seem to know the drill and there's many opportunities to read the menu and stare at pastries while you wait. I came on a Saturday late morning and waited around ~15min (keep in mind, Butler is by the water so it's very windy and pretty frigid while you wait). For beverages, i got a mocha and latte. We also ordered their breakfast sandwich with truffle Mayo, and the olive oil yuzu muffin with blackberry glaze. The coffee is good - next time I might order an extra shot of espresso, or maybe order a flat white so it's a bit less milky. The breakfast sandwich was very very good, and even came with a small arugula side salad. We loved the olive oil muffin- definitely a go to if you enjoy olive oil cake. There was also an exceptionally friendly cashier who did a great job managing the line and everyone's orders. I'm excited to explore more of the menu - possibly lunch next time. This place is what I like to call "Just a SEC - Simple. Easy. Casual" A lot of yummy pastries that cater anyone needs / allergies. I usually order my go to breakfast sandwhich, which has bacon, eggs and mayo w/ a side salad. I wouldn't say this place is the most affordable, but for what you're paying for... everything is delicious. They don't allow dogs inside, but have an easy access window to order a coffee on your walk and even have little treats for the fur babies. It can get crowded since it is located in an area with a lot of corporate offices, so if you plan to grab a seat, I recommend arriving before 11am. read more

One last peeve, there's table service, but u have to go get your coffee, and utensils, weird to me. They bring your plate of food to your table but you go up to get your coffee and then your folk, spoon and knives, from two different locations. That can't be fun with a crowd. I'll end on a positive note. The location is right off the River in Dumbo, so it's perfect to stroll around. The big plus to this place is that it opens early 6:30a and is ready for full food service, so come here if you want to beat the crowds, come early. The coffee, juices, and food are all good. When you are all settled, with your utensils, coffee, and food on table, it's quite relaxing and has a nice ambiance, with beautiful views of restored historic buildings all around. Conveniently located on a corner in DUMBO, about a block away from the water with breathtakingly iconic views of the city and a couple of bridges you might be familiar with. Their Oat Cappuccino was absolutely spot on and delicious. Could it have been that it was about 20 degrees, windy and I was urning for something warm? Could have been... but as memory serves me correct, this is a spot worth grabbing another drink from whenever in the area. (The weather was just the icing on the cake.) Very interesting cafe in DUMBO! Heard about the pastries they offered here and decided to try them out. As others have mentioned, no indoor ordering for now. You place your order at a walk up window and have a few seating options outdoor to wait. I ordered a pistachio milk latte and an everything cruffin. With a decent line, my order came out pretty quickly. The latte was like any other good latte. Nothing to write home about but definitely nothing like a certain green chain that will go unmentioned. That cruffin though. was. incredible. Soft and flaky. The butter would have provided enough flavor as is, but then they added chive cream cheese and everything bagel seasoning on top? Perfection. I wish I could've ordered a dozen for my house. But let's be honest, if I did that, I'd eventually start yelping gyms near my area. A chic little chores shop tucked right into the heart of Dumbo, just a short walk from the iconic bridge photo spot. I stopped by with my coworkers to grab an afternoon pick-me-up and loved it. This place was fantastic all around! Coffee was great, they actually made my cortado a cortado and not a latte which is incredibly hard to find! People that worked there were outstandingly kind. The woman behind the register gave compliments on compliments, the man making my coffee was also super smiley, was feeding a dog through the to go window tons of treats, and ran down the street after someone who forgot something in the cafe. I love this place. Been a supporter from Day 1 and go 2x/week. Location, ambiance, service, food offerings, vibe, etc. are top notch. Intelligentsia coffee is the icing on the cake! The Sausage Roll is my favorite tasting item in the neighborhood. My only, and I mean ONLY, gripe is over time the sausage roll has shrunk in size substantially and literally is the 'mini sausage roll' and costs $5.75. Would be great if they either lower the price for this 'bite' or go back to the older larger size; I hope and pray for the later. Butler is a nice place to go to on a weekend late morning/early afternoon in Dumbo. I got the avocado toast, which was probably above average compared to most that I've had. it came with feta cheese and pomegranate seeds which gave a nice heterogeneity in taste and texture. I also got a latte which was solid (and had nice artwork which was a plus). I originally wanted to order the mushroom toast, which from looking at pictures of the menu from past reviews was marked vegetarian, but when I arrived in person it wasn't. I asked the woman taking my order if it was vegetarian, and she just said that the things that are vegetarian are marked as such, implying that it wasn't. So I'm not sure if something was added to no longer make it vegetarian, or maybe I just read the menu wrong. But it would have been nice to get a better clarification of why it wasn't vegetarian if in fact it wasn't. If I'm ever in Dumbo again, I'd be happy to revisit Butler. read more

We went on a Monday afternoon. It was not too busy or loud inside. Their drinks are not super specialty, but they try to add small twists. Their pastries were interesting though. We did not try any of their prepared food. The bathroom was nice and clean. There is a good view of the Brooklyn Bridge. A good spot to stop by and refresh during the day. FOOD (5/5) Olive Oil Muffin (with Grapefruit & Rosemary) - This cake was very moist. It was not oily in a gross or slippery way. The candied grapefruit(?) on top was really sweet, but I liked it a lot. The icing on top was subtle, and not overpowering. I really enjoyed this. (4/5 Mixed Berry and Yogurt Muffin - The texture of this pastry was different than others I have tried before. The batter is dense, but there are larger air pockets, so it feels very textured, I hope this makes sense, like you can feel the grooves of the air bubbles in your mouth. Its not bad, just different. The flavor was still good overall. DRINK (4/5) Pistachio Milk Flat White by Tâche - The drink tasted strong. I am new to pistachio milk so maybe I just do not know how to fully appreciate it yet. Trendy coffee/brunch place in Dumbo, Brooklyn! I've always passed by this place whenever I visited Dumbo. So I finally decided to try out with my friend on a Saturday around 2 PM. I was too busy to go, but didn't realize there was a location in DUMBO. Immediately, I went to go and the sticky date muffin and the croissant are divine. When I was walking back to the office, the cold brew and pastry made me smile which says a lot when good food has the energy and soul to do that. TL;DR: Found multiple ants on my food. Subpar service. Food and coffee are solid, but I won't be back. It's a prototypical hip cafe with solid coffee in the $4-5 range. The good: they have a takeout window along with indoor ordering, which is great if you hate to wait. I got the avocado toast ($12) and cappuccino ($4.50) which came out in ~5 min. The avocado toast was beautiful (edible flowers!) but more than halfway through the meal I realized that some of the poppy seeds were moving... and that they were actually ants crawling around my plate I wouldn't have minded, except I let the waitstaff know and not only got no response, but staff was grossed out enough to drop and leave my plate on the table... so I bussed my own plate because they wouldn't touch it. It took three tries to get acknowledgement so someone would check their produce. This blasé attitude is concerning - if I got three ants on my plate, I don't want to think about how many are crawling in potentially contaminated produce. Love the ordering window so that you can order and wait outside and not have to crowd around inside. That means it's dog friendly breakfast pickup, which is A+ in my book! Best espresso-based drinks I've had in the neighborhood so far. And consistently so, also! The latte is SO smooth and so far none of them have been burnt. Yay! Highly recommend the breakfast empanada with the salsa verde it comes with. Oooh it's really good. There's bacon in the empanada, so this is not vegetarian friendly. The egg frittata we had was also really great, albeit a bit under-seasoned. Loved that there was some asparagus in the frittata- very seasonal! You can get both of these items warmed. Separately, we've gotten their chocolate croissant and also the chive cruffin. Okay, let's just say that they've perfected their croissant recipe because it's buttery and flaky just the way I like it- without the hard crust on the outside. The chocolate croissant has what I would consider more of a chocolate sauce than a chocolate shell. And the chive cruffin is exactly what it sounds like- a croissant baked in the shape of a muffin with a dollop of chive butter on top. YUM. We stopped by for a little pick ne up and a moment of reprieved from the cold after going to the nearby carousel on the river. I got the cappuccino with oat milk, my friend got the chai latte, and we split the olive oil grapefruit muffin. My cappuccino was strong and slightly bitter, but smooth. Very very light on the foam (unfortunately for me as I like a thick foam for cappuccinos). The chai latte was great! Very robust flavors and you can taste every spice in it. The whole milk had a bit of foam for the top, which was a nice touch along with the sprinkle of cinnamon. It's a pretty light latte though. Kind of watery, while having strong flavor. The olive oil muffin was a great add on for a sweet touch. I asked for it to be slightly warmed up, which was really nice. The glaze was the perfect amount of sweetness, with the cake being moist and not overly sweet. The rosemary and sugared grapefruit peel was a yummy treat and cute decor for the pastry. The decor inside is really great too. There's a row of big leaf trees lining the glass walls. The booths all have leather seating with gold tables and cute bistro style chairs. There's also two high tables with stool seating. The music is great and the lighting is almost all natural from the giant glass wall/windows. The breakfast sandwich was also spot on and is a kicked up version of your typical deli classic. The roasted chicken sandwich was kind of plain and I wasn't too thrilled with it. I'm from Sydney originally, so my first choice when getting coffee in NYC is to support my compatriots. My husband and I moved from East Village to Downtown Brooklyn in June 2019, and unfortunately there are nowhere near as many Australian coffee shops in Brooklyn as there are in downtown Manhattan. Butler is located a short walk from our place, so it's been our mainstay for coffee for the past 1.5 years. This place used to be really busy before the pandemic, and usually still always has a line in the morning. Right now, they are only serving takeout through the ordering window, with no indoor access. They do have some outdoor tables located nearby to sit and eat your food at. Service is always friendly, and coffee and food are served quickly after ordering. I might be a little biased, but I do find this coffeeshop much better than any nearby. Would recommend for great coffee in Dumbo. read more

Beautiful pastries and dishes made with high quality ingredients. The yogurt parfait was out of this world. The homemade granola had interesting bits of grains, nuts & dried apricots. The fresh fruit was farm fresh and colorful and juicy. I felt like it was custom made just for me. The pastries are excellent, but be forewarned if you have young kids - the puff pastry is so delicate that it shatters into small pieces with every bite.
