I took my Subaru in to have the TPMS control module reset after I had already taken the car to two other service centers. After 45 minutes they stated they cannot repair or program modules on Subarus. They then gave me a bill for $116.00. The problem had already been diagnosed. I came in for an alignment. They went ahead and told me I had 2100 worth of work that needs to be done. I took my car back to where I originally got my tirod replaced and there was only 1 of the 4 things wrong with my car and it was not an expensive fix. I have been a customer of the Freeport Butitta's since they opened. One of the main reasons is that they are located just down the street from my house, and will pick up and deliver my car back to me when finished (this has been a nice courtesy because I am disabled). Last May I had them do the front brakes on my 2008 Chrysler Town & Country van, which included calipers, rotors, and pads. The job cost over $800. Within two months I started to hear a grinding sound when braking. I brought it back, and within twenty minutes the mechanic said the problem had been that one of the calipers had not been seated properly. He said he adjusted the caliper and that nothing else needed to be done. Shortly after, the grinding sound returned. The following week I had the van in another shop for a cv joint and tie rod replacement. I asked them to look at the brakes, and was told the pads were 80% worn, that the rotors were glazed, and that both needed to be replaced (this after only 14,000 miles of wear). I had the second garage re-do the brakes (another $400), and also had them save the pads and rotors. The pads were indeed 80% worn and the rotors were glazed. This is because Butitta's had installed organic rather than ceramic pads, (ceramic pads are what the owner's manual calls for). Note: Butitta's had charged me for ceramic pads. Butitta's denied me any refund or relief (I expected a refund for at least the cost of the rotors and pads), citing that because I had had another shop do the re-work, they would not warranty it. I argued that I had initially brought it back to Butitta's, but they hadn't corrected the problem. The manager, Ace (who had always treated me well), apologized, stating it was a "corporate decision." I will not be taking any vehicle back to Butitta's in the future. There are better shops in town who stand behind their work. Also, in my case Butitta's installed cheap, inferior parts. This is something they had done once before. On that previous occasion it was a cheap water pump that quit working within two months. On that occasion they did replace it with a factory-certified water pump, but still charged me 50% of the original job for the re-work. Because of Butitta's improper and inferior brake pads, and their unwillingness to make it right, I have now spent an extra $400 to re-do the brakes. This is money I should not have had to spend. Based on my history with Butitta's, I can only assume that using cheap parts and not fixing their mistakes (despite telling me the brakes had a 24,000 mile warranty) is a Butitta business practice. I do not recommend Butitta's for auto repairs. There are better shops in town who stand behind their work. read more
