Treats Paying Customers Like Criminals - Algonquin IL store 699…read moreI am single, visit once a week , but it can vary. I have been shopping here for as many years as this store has been open. WTF with the rent-a-cop following me around every time I visit for the last few months? Yes, I wear a heavy coat in winter. WTH am I thinking wearing a heavy coat when it's 30 degrees outside? Yes, sometimes I look at things on the produce shelf for an extended time; 1- things aren't always in the same place, 2- I like to review the options like any normal shopper, 3- sometimes I read a label and put the item back, 4- check my eggs for cracks... How the hell is that suspicious behavior? I shop at many grocery stores, but this is the only one where I am basically treated like a criminal. Whole Foods doesn't treat me this way, The Fresh Market doesn't treat me this way, Walmart doesn't treat me this way, or any other grocery store for that matter. I am sorry that you have a theft problem, but I am not it. Driving away good customers isn't going to help your bottom line. Get your act together. It's insulting and I deserve an apology. I would use Instacart to avoid your unwelcoming store , but you are too cheap to participate. When shopping here , Expect to be Treated as a Potential Thief.

As far as grocery stores in our area go, Valli is one of the best. Over the years, we've seen them…read moreexpand their selection. They have one of the best selections of ethnic foods in the area so finding something special is usually easy to do there. Their produce can't be beaten. They have a huge selection of all different types of produce - fruits and vegetables, many I've never tried before but will eventually. They also have an amazing deli counter with probably the best pricing around. With good pricing, their cold cuts turn over quickly so you know you are always getting something fresh. While they used to be the least expensive store for just about everything, we've also seen their prices climb over the years. But compared to the large grocers in the area like Jewel, they are much less expensive. Shopping at Valli can be fun - you'll see things you've never seen before. Lots of people shop there so also be prepared for lines at their checkout counters. But, it's all worth it.

The difference with Sunset Foods is that they offer a lot of options, more high end, than the cheaper larger competitors. What you'll find at Sunset are departments with friendly and helpful staff. management that cares about its customers, and people willing to help at every turn of the store. Sure, I know I'm paying more for the same food and produce I can get elsewhere cheaper, but the quality is better at Sunset and the produce tends to last longer. I love the fact that as you bring your cart to pay, the management is there to guide you to an available cashier or a short line and then they empty your cart onto the belt. They help you to your car and even load your groceries in your trunk if you need the help. There are no other stores in our area (that I'm aware of) that have such great customer service. Lastly, one of the best services they have is that if they don't have an item you're looking for, you can let them know at customer service and they will get it in stock for you. Their customer service is unparalleled especially in how they go above and beyond to help you in your shopping experience.

Who knew that a Whole Foods on Kiddler Street would turn into a stealth Asian pantry goldmine?…read more I usually walk in into pricier grocery stores with a plan: meat, bread, home. But today, that plan was deliciously derailed. I had every intention of skipping the produce but ended up frozen in my tracks. There it was. Fresh coconut chunks. Whole tamarind pods, not paste but the real deal. Aloe. Yucca. Chinese melons. And even red-flesh dragon fruit. The kind that makes your smoothie look like it came from a fairy tale. Normally, I plan a separate pilgrimage to Jongboo, H Mart, or Seoul Market for these ingredients. Reviews for those are coming, I promise. But this was unexpected magic in a mainstream aisle. I have spent a lot of time in Asia for work and completely fell in love with the food. My husband and kids are on board, so our kitchen is a happy rotation of Korean BBQ, Japanese curry, Singapore noodles, and hot pot. And this Whole Foods just made that rotation easier. Bonus points for three kinds of figs and gorgeous flowers, both on sale. This location may say Whole Foods on the outside, but if you look close enough, it quietly says Asian market crossover on the inside. And for that, I am hooked.

This Aldi stocks some really good cheap product but they have absolutely skullfucked the automation…read morestrategy to the point they just brought the old cashier stands from in back and set them up and went back to being a mediocre grocery store with bad staffing and long lines every day of the week. I'm not happy. Automation should be a part of every retail system. It's when automation takes over everything that it sucks. Aldi doesn't know the middle ground for them it's all or nothing with automation and they decided to go back to the 90s. I wouldn't be surprised if they ditch barcodes on items for manual pricing guns to 'save money' They cut corners everywhere and sometimes their food is also a corner that gets cut, its good food but sometimes the durability is terrible, items will spoil within a day or two. I've seen better durability from donated veggies at the food pantry than here. This store is like a costco warehouse but somehow they managed to make everything suck and enshittified Aldi. Seems like the enshittification of the internet is now enshittifying retail!
