    Elgin Fresh Market.....
    Randy G.

I love the Elgin Fresh Market on Mcleean Blvd. Right when you walk in the door you are in the amazing produce section. Everything I purchase is always fresh. Just after the produce is the hot instore made fresh food. More amazing fresh chicken, carnitas, tamales, barbacoa, refried beans. mexican rice, and I know I'm missing things but you get the idea. I have tried everything that I've listed here and I must say it is all very very tasty and not bad priced. The tamales I have gotten three ways. Chicken, pork, and jalapeno. They are all great. Next to the hot bar is the "corn in a cup station". They used to this in the front of the store when you leave. After Covid hit, this was moved to a smaller spot in the back of the store. We look forward to this whenever we go here. It's corn cut right off the cob, mayo, some squeeze butter, lime juice, cheese. and a little chili powder. I can't say enough about this. Another great fresh made item. After the corn station is the fresh meat department. They have a huge selection of fresh meats. chicken, fish, pork, beef, whatever your heart desires you should be able to find it here. I always walk out with at least a couple of pounds of skirt steak and beef riblets. The steak is cut razor thin and run through the tenderizer. Less than two minutes on a hot grill and it's done. The riblets are the same way. Cut very thin and a couple of minutes on a hot grill and a little bbq sauce and your in heaven. Near the fresh meat counter is a section with any kind of homemade sauces, guacamole, or pico de gallo you could want. From mild to as spicy as you need. They have it. Besides the isles of regular grocery staples, at the front of the store they have an amazing bakery. It smells wonderful and the items they have on display look as good as they smell. I'm sorry, I don't eat these types of things so I can't review them. But it all looks wonderful. I can't say enough about the Elgin Fresh Market. We stop in here every time we are in the area. We are never disappointed...

Fruits have mold and had to throw some, everything else was great but if they are gonna sell fruits they should sell the ones that you can obviously see damage or moldy.

No interest in U-Pick, thank you, though they do this throughout the season (check their instagram for info on when they are allowing U-Pick). It was a fine place but I'm not sure if I would make the trip again. It was an hour drive and we got our strawberries, walked around a bit, and left; all told we were there for maybe 20 minutes or so and I don't think it was worth the drive. I'll probably pick up from a farmer's market instead, unless I'm nearby. They have more than just the produce here, as there's a little gift shop area on the one side of the building that has gift items, children's toys and clothes, and more. They also have a counter where you can order food, and a nice outdoor area to eat at. I will say that what I REALLY appreciated was that it wasn't a farm carnival, as some of them are now with rides and lines and parking that's blocks away. This is a more straightforward farm stand, which is what I wanted.

I like getting salsas there makes it convenient just a bit pricey but what can we do with everything going up. The bakery is super hard passing and not getting something. The flan here I highly recommend it's very delicious. I also get the bollio or sesame rolls super soft. The deli department most of the time it's busy but it goes quick. Love that they know how to cut thin ham without breaking into pieces. Great prices on deli products. The hot food ready to go looks good. I never had any except for the Puerto Rican rice which is super delicious and it's a must have. They have a sushi section haven't tried it yet. The only reason I don't give it five stars is because of the meat department the carniceros or the guys who cut the meat most of them are okay but one of them has a very sarcastic attitude and they way he talks to the women customers not so polite and could get you in trouble if one of them was to complain. Other than that I recommend coming to Tony's for there deli, produce, bakery, hot food and meat. Soda or chips like that you have to buy so many to get a good price so I just go else where for that
