I love the Elgin Fresh Market on Mcleean Blvd. Right when you walk in the door you are in the amazing produce section. Everything I purchase is always fresh. Just after the produce is the hot instore made fresh food. More amazing fresh chicken, carnitas, tamales, barbacoa, refried beans. mexican rice, and I know I'm missing things but you get the idea. I have tried everything that I've listed here and I must say it is all very very tasty and not bad priced. The tamales I have gotten three ways. Chicken, pork, and jalapeno. They are all great. Next to the hot bar is the "corn in a cup station". They used to this in the front of the store when you leave. After Covid hit, this was moved to a smaller spot in the back of the store. We look forward to this whenever we go here. It's corn cut right off the cob, mayo, some squeeze butter, lime juice, cheese. and a little chili powder. I can't say enough about this. Another great fresh made item. After the corn station is the fresh meat department. They have a huge selection of fresh meats. chicken, fish, pork, beef, whatever your heart desires you should be able to find it here. I always walk out with at least a couple of pounds of skirt steak and beef riblets. The steak is cut razor thin and run through the tenderizer. Less than two minutes on a hot grill and it's done. The riblets are the same way. Cut very thin and a couple of minutes on a hot grill and a little bbq sauce and your in heaven. Near the fresh meat counter is a section with any kind of homemade sauces, guacamole, or pico de gallo you could want. From mild to as spicy as you need. They have it. Besides the isles of regular grocery staples, at the front of the store they have an amazing bakery. It smells wonderful and the items they have on display look as good as they smell. I'm sorry, I don't eat these types of things so I can't review them. But it all looks wonderful. I can't say enough about the Elgin Fresh Market. We stop in here every time we are in the area. This store looks promising, I have a family member that moved in on the town over in Hoffman Estates and this Hispanic store is the closest. About 5-7 minutes away and its there. Even though we only purchased beer, I was looking at the specials they have and they looked quite awesome. They have a big meat section, which is always a plus and same as a grocery department. If you are ever in the area, just swing by and take a look for yourself. I am sure that you will not be disappointed. read more

This is one "Kick Ass" little grocery establishment...absolutely the store that "Try's Harder" to earn your patronage! This is obviously an "Old School" Grocery store footprint that has been updated with a bright & shiny finish. This a great place to buy Hispanic foods. Their workers and managers were rude to my mother who is elderly senior citizen. They wouldn't allow her to use theirs restroom and told her to leave to another place to use the restroom. Disappointed because over the past 2 years I've spent almost $2000.00 in grocery. The man was 6'2 and possibly the manager. Please improve your customer service. My mom said everyone sounds illiterate and uneducated. We are Mexican but these people have no morals. It's time for you to train your workers how to be polite, courteous, and empathetic. I'll be back but I hope not to go through this again. read more

My new favorite store. All the variety of fruits & vegetables makes me want to try EVERYTHING! The prices are very reasonable & this place is definitely worth the stop. If i could give a zero star rating i would. I bought a jar of Chiles Escabeche and they were terrible and rancid. The store was dirty and the customer service was poor. Produce is always fresh. Store including the parking lot is always clean. If a line starts to form in the checkout area they are quick to get another register open. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and eager to help. The over all shopping experience at this location compared to the Jewel blocks away is night and day with EFM shinning above. read more

I've only been to this place 2 or 3 times to go to the bakery to get tres leches cake. I was so happy to find tres leches cake. I loooooove it! The first time I went the cake was delicious, nice and moist with chopped nuts on top. I only got a couple pieces and loved every single bite. The second time I went there some of the pieces I got were quite a bit dry, which was disappointing. Others were moist. I will most likely be going back here. read more

Great place to shop for mexican groceries. Huge produce selection, Very large deli. seafood and meat selections. Many fresh baked goods. I like the prepared hot foods section and the dinner meal specials they have. You get a lot of food for a very reasonable price and it is DELICIOUS! After you've checked out, they have a snack bar with mexican favorites. I like getting the corn on a stick called Elote and when they have it, I get a large glass of watermelon juice. read more

Elgin Fresh Market is like nothing I've ever seen before! I go on little adventures with my Gramie and she had raved about this place (yes, a grocery store... it's pretty awesome!) and I can definitely see why! When I walked into the store I would have sworn I was shopping at a grocery store on TV! Their produce was perfectly and neatly stacked, all of the produce was fresh and you didn't have to dig around to find a "good one" like you do at any other store. I picked up some ingredients for some meals I was going to be cooking as well as some items from the bakery for family I was having in town. From what I understand the bakery is a separate business from the grocery store,not a big deal at all. Be prepared to pay separately from the rest of your groceries. They have breads, pastries and cakes all displayed and they all look delicious! I can say the cake and breads I bought from them were fantastic! Their prices were reasonable at both the bakery as well as the grocery store, in fact I would have paid MORE for the freshness of quality of the items I purchased. On my way out I saw they had a drink bar with an orange juicer just like one I had been in love with on a cruise I had taken a few years ago, I splurged on the orange juice and got myself a glass... I frequent this store often when I need certain Hispanic items such as vegetables, canned items, dried items and meats. Everything I have ever gotten from here is fresh and very well priced. They have a huge selection of meats with a lot of cuts that you cannot find in regular grocery store like liver, tripe and even whole heads of cows and pigs for who knows what! They also have a deli area with pre-made items to take home for dinner that are very authentic and always piping hot and fresh! Also there is a bakery section that I believe they have delivered daily because it is always fresh and CHEAP! The rolls I buy to make tortas (Mexican sandwiches) are usually like 4 or 5 for $1!! You feel like you practically stole them they're so cheap! This is definitely a place for anyone who cooks Mexican or any kind of Hispanic foods or anyone who wants to give it a try! read more

Nice store and you can pretty much find any Hispanic item you need for cooking. They have a large selection of meat and it is very good quality for the price. I bought a birthday cake from the bakery and it was the best cake I have ever had. It was a Tres Leches cake with strawberries and everybody was fighting for the last piece. They also have a stand in front of the store that sells cut up fruit, corn, and other tasty treats. I think this store is well worth the visit. read more

So far, this place has been a good store . It remains a very good alternative to the only large store within 10-15 mins from here, the Jewel-Osco, which is part of a chain that's usually on the more expensive side. This store especially has good deals on meats, fruits, and vegetables. The quality of things I buy here has been good. I don't cook a lot of Hispanic foods, however, there's enough deals here with ingredients that are very universal to all foods. The employees here act professionally, and I never got a bad attitude from any of them. I also marked this store at $$ because there are cheaper stores out there, but the food here isn't as scary as a lot of cheaper alternatives. My only complaints are that their website doesn't have the latest flier. read more

We now are regular customers at Azteca Bakery inside Elgin Frest Market. They have the best sweet empanadas! We are big fans of the apple, cheese and guava flavors. We have learned a lot since our first visit. It's a little different than bakeries I'm used to where you just point to what you want. Here you take a tray and grab the items that you want with your tongs and then pay at the register. Prices are great and the empanadas are really tasty!! We've also had the fresh-squeezed orange juice at the front of the store and it is really good too. Give this place a try if you're in the area. read more

Just went and all theroot vegetables were rotten. I pick the ones that looked the best, but after cutting into them they were rotten also. Just called the store and they offer for me to go tomorrow and pick new ones. I guess that is better than nothing! Be on the look out for expiration dates too.
