(copy and paste the link) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YC2laXK6tLk&list=UUk5bwqerByHPuQzCxT4n88w&index=9 European pastry is known for its' decidedly low-key approach to sweeteners. In other words, they don't obscure the delicate flavors and flaky textures with the kind of heavy-handed use of sweeteners found in their American counterparts. Ma Petite Cherie produces exceptional baked goods in the French tradition, not too sugary and not too heavy. Their baked goods look exactly like the ones I enjoyed every day when I lived in Europe. More importantly, they TASTE exactly the same, fluffy, buttery layers with just a hint of sweetness. If your taste runs to Krispy Kremes, sticky buns, and Twinkies, you may not appreciate Ma Petite Cherie's restraint when it comes to the use of sugar. However, if you enjoy quality baked goods that DO justice to the fine art of French cuisine, then you definitely should stop by MPC's cute little booth at the the Brentwood Farmer's Market.

I don't come out to Discovery Bay too much anymore, but I stopped by for some gas and snacks on a Monday evening. Michael's Market is like a convenience store (c-store), but it's loaded with beer, wine and tobacco items. It has a fountain area and wide variety of snacks and candy. For awhile it was the only neighborhood shop around. But now the Discovery Bay shopping center is right next door. Yes, I saw the Confederate flag. But the clerk was friendly and helpful. I was wearing my work uniform w/ ID. People with jobs usually have money to spend. Michael's Market is a well stocked c-store that can save you a trip down the road to the Safeway shopping center. Shell gas prices were about average for the SF Bay Area. Located on the corner of Discovery Bay Blvd & Riverlake Rd.

I have come by a few times in the past 2 months and have never even been greeted with a "hello" at the counter. Did they all get a frontal lobotomy? Or are they just that afraid of women? If I were Michael I would find anyone with any personality immediately instead of letting these rejects be the "welcoming" face of your store. They make me feel like a complete burden at best. Gross customer service. I would rather talk to my wall.

The huge prime rib portion was served perfectly seasoned and cooked medium (pink) and served with the best roast potatoes. Yes, I can go on and on about how fluffy they were inside while crisp outside and again, perfectly seasoned. As were the green beans. Our bartender, Jenna, was professional and sweet while waiting on every customer inside, at the bar, at the tables, and all the tables outside. She still managed to keep a light and fun attitude and her beautiful smile. We also met other local patrons at the bar, a lovely couple who were so friendly. Definitely a 5 star for service, and 5 star for food and cocktails and 5 star for having great people around.

Most of the seating is in a covered outdoor courtyard with string lights and patio heaters, which creates a cozy setting for a group dinner. There's also a smaller indoor bar area that feels more intimate. The atmosphere is inviting and well done. We started with saganaki and The Bee's Knees to share. The Bee's Knees -- toasted bread with goat cheese, honey, and bee pollen -- was actually one of the highlights of the night and something I'd definitely recommend. We also ordered cocktails and a couple bottles of wine for the table, a Pinot and a Napa Cabernet. The Pinot was enjoyable; the Cabernet was not our favorite and felt a bit underwhelming. Service was friendly but slow and somewhat disorganized. We were told there was only one cook in the kitchen that evening, which likely explains why the food took quite a while to arrive. Several in our group ordered the "I Really Don't Care" entrée. I had a salad with steak, and unfortunately the steak was a bit clammy and lacked flavor. It wasn't terrible, just not memorable. For dessert we shared the lava cake, which was decent but not exceptional. If half-stars were an option, I'd probably land at a 3 1/2. Since that's not how it works, I'm giving it three. The ambiance and a few dishes stood out, but the overall execution didn't fully meet the expectations we had going in.

This Delta mainstay attempts, and often succeeds, to balance both. A short drive from the city delivers you to this laidback waterfront outpost, where the real show unfolds just beyond the patio: a steady procession of boaters launching, docking, and lingering over the day's boating stories all around you. It's an unpolished but undeniably charming backdrop, best enjoyed with a cold craft beer in hand and nowhere urgent to be. The menu casts a wide variety of burgers, seafood, barbecue, designed more for broad appeal than culinary ambition. Still, it largely delivers on its promise of satisfying comfort fare. Service, however, is where the restaurant consistently distinguishes itself. Staff members are warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming, a level of hospitality that feels increasingly uncommon and worth noting. On this visit, I returned to a familiar favorite: the cheeseburger, paired, at our server's suggestion, with tater tots. Around the table, fish and chips and pulled pork sliders completed the spread. The cheeseburger, Juicy and cooked with precision, it carries a distinct flame-grilled character that signals real attention to technique. The toppings are fresh, the bun properly toasted, and the overall construction strikes a satisfying balance between indulgent and controlled. It's a burger that delivers exactly what it promises, and does so consistently. Having previously paired it with excellent onion rings, it remains a dish I'd order without hesitation. The tater tots, however, were a notable misstep. A great tot should offer contrast, crisp exterior giving way to a light, airy interior. These lacked that essential textural payoff. Soft and underwhelming, they suggested oil past its prime and a lapse in execution. After sampling a few, I left the rest behind. It was a surprising inconsistency, particularly given stronger past experiences. Fortunately, the pulled pork sliders recalibrated the meal. Three well-proportioned sandwiches showcased tender, smoky pork layered onto soft buns with a restrained hand on the sauce. The balance was thoughtful, allowing the meat to remain the focal point. Each bite was cohesive and satisfying, making them one of the afternoon's clear highlights. The fish and chips were fresh and not over battered, well-flavored, but just a little heavy, that defines the dish at its best when lightly crispy, in my opinion. For this visit, I award 3 out of 5 stars. Not for lack of potential, the kitchen clearly has it, but for inconsistency. Strong dishes sit alongside underwhelming ones, and that variability prevents the restaurant from reaching its full potential. Having experienced better execution here before, particularly with fried items, it's evident that higher standards are within reach. Still, three stars should not deter a visit. This remains one of the Delta's most appealing gathering spots. The waterfront setting, approachable pricing, generous portions, and engaging atmosphere create an experience that extends beyond the plate. It's a place where time stretches, conversations deepen, and the rhythm of the water sets the pace. I'll return, for something new on the menu, the view, and with the hope that the kitchen rediscovers the consistency needed to match its undeniable strengths.
