I was very disappointed in Burton's. I ordered some shoes in good faith from them because they didn't have a size 10(pretty standard run of the mill size). Six weeks later the shoes show up, and regardless of my order tag showing a price of $84.95 they told me the price is now $99.95 and would not honor the price I based my order off of. Believe me it is not the money but the principle. They can have their $15, I will never set "foot" in their store again. Congratulations on your customer centric's. I had intended to buy a new pair of Huka's from them that day at twice the price. Instead jumped in the car and headed to Stockton. Way to go Burton's! My friend and I took her elderly mom out to breakfast brunch in Lodi. After a big brunch and full of coffee we decided that a walk was in order!! As we walked and window shopped ( Not all stores were opened on Sundays ), we saw Burton's Shoes!! My friend"s mom said she used to shop at Burton's Shoes back in the day. We thought she was joking because we didn't recognize the name. Oops! They've been around for like 50 something years. Wowza!! I can't say many small family stores have lasted thru the years. Keep in mind...it's a shoe store. It's not that big of a store. However, they have a mens side and a womens side. There's quite a few latest and hip shoes. You can find anything from dress shoes, running shoes, boots to flip flop type shoes. I noticed the very back of the store were a nice selection of clearanced shoes of all types. They also carry a small selection of purses/hand bags. Other misc stuff that are related to shoe items. When we first stepped into the store, the employees said hello right off. A few minutes later we were asked if we needed help. We had a nice chat about the store. Very cordial folks. The overall store was very clean and organized. They had nice displays of shoes and boots. They really utilized their space well. This is a great store in a nice downtown area. Minus a star for higher prices and return policy a little stiff on the purses. Writing this review on behalf of my mother in law. Real disappointment as a long time customer and so is my friend we stop in and have made several purchases. Recently I picked up a pair of shoes for my granddaughter. Oddly they do not fit her something is not right with the shoe cut. I went to return them and was refused any type of credit or exchange. I even asked if they would give me half store credit. Absolutely no consideration could be made. I will be taking my shoe shopping needs to another establishment and not supporting my local store. my 83 year old husband went into Burtons Shoeswith the highest recommendation from friends. He has a great deal of pain and was wanting to get a pair of SAS shoes as we've heard these are the best for his feet problem. He came home with a nice pair of shoes, not SAS though Its the fit and customer service plus the fit that I'm only leaving one star. the first shoe he tried on felt a little tight, so he was put into a shoe 1/2 size larger than normal. This shoe was too big but it felt good, the problem being his heel of the shoe is slipping up and down. He should have been fitted better, and This isn't helping the relief of pain he needs. One star as he wasn't fitted correctly and it was a waste of an elderly persons money. We didn't try to return them as he had worn them, and being in much pain he didn't want the potential hassle. Terrible customer service! Did not realize that if a purchase was made with cash and a receipt was provided, a full cash refund would NOT be provided. Staff, stating that they can not give cash back, but instead store credit, however if a credit card was used, a refund would be given . This place has been around since before the use of credit cards, and you can't figure out how to give a cash refund!? Meanwhile the window washer was paid in cash directly from the register . Tried to find this policy listed somewhere but alas, they do not have a website. My family has lived in this town for generations and often was a patron, however after the way your staff and owner handled this situation, we will be taking our business elsewhere. I used to love this place and the people who worked there. However, the customer service and return policy is pretty awful as of late. My sweet little grandma, along with my mom, were hassled about returning expensive shoes that hurt her. Please know, they are both regular customers and returned them within days. The behavior of the ladies was unprofessional and snotty. I also had this experience a year or so ago, but originally dismissed it as a one time event. As a past business owner, I know returns are tough. However, too damn bad. Its a part of doing business. I don't think either one of us will be returning unless something changes. My wife and I were in Lodi for an event in the morning and decided to walk through the downtown to see what was there. I had tore the lace to one of my shoes earlier and when I saw Burton's I thought I'd see if I could get some new laces. The folks there were so nice and helpful to make sure I got the right laces. Kitty (I think that is her name) and another young woman were extremely informative and enthusiastic. They definitely put considerable effort into a small sale! They even gave us a good recommendation for where to get lunch. We looked around the store and they had a good selection of quality running socks, Vans, plus other shoes. I have always had wonderful service and enjoyed walking around Burtons. Yesterday I drove down and this 30ish gal met me at the front door and asked if she could help. Told her I was interested in buying some Birkenstocks. She asked to measure my feet, fine not problem. I have worn Birkenstocks for many years and have two pairs size 38 regular. Not sure if that is what is brought over to me, my right foot is swollen, and I could not get my foot into the shoe. She had already brought me a size 39. Well, needless to say it was huge but she said it looked just perfect. Had a friend standing a few feet away and she shock her head. Yes the shoe was too large and even difficult to walk around in. I have always had great service but yesterday with the gal thinking she knew everything and she was rude. Won't be returning for awhile, hopefully she'll leave as I won't have her help me again. Burton's carries a range of good quality comfort shoes and a large "sale" room with excellent prices. My husband has bought several pairs for himself also. bought a pair of keen work shoes . 4 months the sides start to rip out . the owner tells me the reason is i bought too small of shoes my fault . these things are 130 bucks .walked out went to a cobbler who is also in lodi ca and ask him what caused this . he has been repairing shoes and boots for 40 years . he said that's where the shoe bends they always rip out there . I absolutely LOVE the idea of supporting local businesses. That being said...there are a few things that have to occur to encourage me to return to a business. Customer service...crucial to a small local store. There was one man that worked there (and could still, I am not sure) that was always friendly. Other than that, all I get is followed through the store as if I (or my children) are going to steal or break something. It is as if they see someone with kids and are automatically irritated that we are stepping foot in there. Take out the dang kid shoes then! Price...Ok, in order to keep me shopping locally there has to be some type of comparison. Maybe I shop at cheap department/shoe stores, I dont know? But their shoes just seem absurdly over priced. Overall experience...without getting redundant, I am fairly sure one can get the picture.
