This is an outstanding restaurant. I live in Dallas and always eat at Burton's multiple times when I visit beautiful Southern IL.

Burton's is a nice little hometown restaurant, serving simple, yet good food. Nothing fancy, and if you are a vegan like the person that wrote the bad review, you may want to pass (or try thinking outside the box and have a big grilled chicken salad minus the chicken for goodness sakes). My grilled chicken salad last night was perfect (and plentiful enough that I could have skipped the chicken and still had plenty to eat). The staff was great, the food more than adequate (my husband's pork roast dinner was wonderful), and their pies are amazing ... Try the White pie; besides being unique (it's a local thing) it is really, really good. Ignore the Vegan; she (or he) wouldn't have been happy dining anywhere in this quaint little southern area of the world ... Face it folks, Southerners aren't generally known for their tofu. Editing this, because I looked at the "vegetarian"'s other reviews and found a great review of a chili burger that he loved in NM ... Last time I checked, vegans didn't eat burgers, chili or otherwise. Hmmm, gotta wonder about his review of Burton's. In fact, he doesn't seem to like much of anything that isn't in New Mexico. read more

On a short trip to Benton on our Harley. Drove by Burtons on our way home and saw the sign. Home of the famous white pie so we decided to stop. Good food. Fried chicken & chicken tenders were good.Great service. Pie was awesome. Will recommend to others. read more

Excellent restaurant. All food cooked to order the old fashion way. Pies baked fresh daily... Varieties like chocolate cream, raisin, and their famous white pie. Fried Chicken on Thursdays and Sundays are really good. read more

Good atmosphere casual or dress it up. Comfortable. Staff very attentive. Menue great can make a small plate frm most menue items. Help with wine choices and able to taste prior to order. Desert choices are many will make fresh coffee upon request. Lamb chops cooked tender special appetizers of portabella mushrooms was fantastic from the menue pasta stuffed with pear and ricotta excellent. I'm sure it was something different back then but we eat here some when I was a kid and I seemed to enjoy it and as my family members. Had a nostalgic thought and though I'd post a review. Last time I ate here was a good 6 or more years and I though it was just an average place, nothing too good and nothing toooo bad. And when I was little that well was in the mid 90s when we would have been frequent to this location. read more

Heard great things about this place but was sadly disappointed when I ordered country fried steak and it was not homemade, the potatoes were instant and the gravy came out of a can or packet. read more

If you are looking for a great home cooked meal this is the place to go. The food was so good... We would recommend this to anyone.

I remember eating at Burton's when I was in college and always loved it. I wasn't quite as impressed as an adult coming back 20 years later. The price of the adult meals were very reasonable- $7.99 for an entree and 2 sides. Not bad at all. On the other hand, the kids meals were kinda expensive for what they actually got. My kids got 2 chicken strips and a side for $6. Now one would assume that for that price it would include a drink. No where on the menu nor did the waitress say otherwise. When I got the bill, I found they charged an additional $2 for each kids drink. So a kids meal actually ended up costing $8 per kid. I feel like that's kinda expensive when you can go to Applebee's or Chili's and get a kids meal that includes everything for $5. If I would have realized that each kids meal was going to be $8, it would have been cheaper to order them an adult meal to split and 2 drinks and it would have saved me $4. Additionally, the day had just began and they were already out of several things they said they had. read more

We are sometimes hesitant to stop by local restaurants. This nice little place is totally awesome. The entree was perfectly done! Both my husband and I so enjoyed our meals. And the white pie. A big YUM! read more
