I had Burtner Electric come out and install a GFI outlet in the kitchen. They did it quickly and professionally. They cleaned up afterward. They asked if there was anything else I needed and as a matter of fact there was. They replaced two outdoor lights for us and threw away all the packing material. Both employees were professional and quite simply ensured my satisfaction. read more

We pay a premium to use Burtner because we expect a level of service and expertise that is worth that price, and they have been professional and proficient in the past, but our recent experience with them left much to be desired. We needed to have an outlet for an ev charger installed in our garage. When I called to make the appointment, the woman I spoke with said, "We've done just tons of these lately," which made me hopeful that they could help us navigate decisions regarding car charging stations for our garage. The estimator came out and gruffly said he had no experience nor advice about car chargers, had never estimated one before. He looked at the breaker box, pronounced the sub-panel more than sufficient (as I'd already said when making the appointment) and left, sending an estimate for north of $900 to install the outlet. As a consequence of his inexperience, we turned to Dr. Google and ordered a plug-in charger to work with the outlet specified in the estimate. When the electrician arrived, he was gruff and smelly. He said, "Well, where is it?" When we asked what he wanted, he said, "The car charger." It hadn't arrived yet, but I pointed out that the estimate was for a 240 volt outlet. "Nobody told me," he said, then asked to look at the breaker box. After informing me that he'd have to remove a significant chunk of drywall to make the installation, he left to go get parts and was gone for 45 minutes. When he returned, he said he could thread the wires through the hole for the outlet and wouldn't have to destroy our drywall after all. He completed the work (once present and equipped) in under 30 minutes. In retrospect, I wish we'd post-poned the visit until the equipment arrived and hard-wired it, and I fail to understand why this small job cost nearly one thousand dollars when it came without any information or assistance in making decisions around this technology. Or, if that price is in line, why the two Burtner employees we interacted with could not be pleasant nor knowledgeable. I've told two friends about this, and both recommended electricians who would have been more timely, friendly, and less expensive. And both said, "Sorry to hear that. Burtner used to be a good business." read more

"Turn out the lights" Burtner Electric. Unprofessional, unresponsive--an organization in steep decline. Burtner used to be a 1st Class and highly responsive organization. Not anymore. A Burtner employee (licensed electrician??) ) is the only service provider of any type who has ever used the "F-bomb" with me and on my own property. Thankfully, we had several security cameras operating at the time. You might not be as fortunate. Neither David Burtner nor anyone on his team has followed-up to learn more about this crazy incident or to apologize. Buyer beware. read more

This electrician co. in the past 9 years provided us high-quality service. Today they may be using contract workers due to high demand. This led to a near-amateur bathroom fan replacement job. A good job is 1. measure space 2. determine correct fixture 3. make second visit with correct fixture & install it in 1-2 hours. Bad job: 1. tell the owner "I got one on the truck" 2. spend two+ hours trying to make the wrong fixture fit, 3. charge another hour to get one that fits, 4. charge the owner for the wasted hours. and wow, Burtner allowed $200 off their bill of, guess again, $907 (the fan cost $260) read more

This is not a dependable company and I question competence. I'll be a little detailed so you don't make the same mistake I made. Besides from being a lawyer, I've been a licensed general contractor in my past life. One thing I don't mess with is electric. I only know enough to burn my house down. The owner of Burtner seems to be a likable fellow and he bids each project. I hired Burtner because he was the electrician used by the builder when I bought my current house in Carmel. Last year I hired him to put a light over my pool table. I specifically told Burtner that I would not move the table and they would have to use scaffolding. He said it would not be a problem. A few months later his employee showed up and appeared not to know what he was supposed to do (Yes their appointments are months out). I told him and he said he knew nothing about scaffolding and he would have to speak with his boss. I told him not to stand on my pool table. I come down an hour later and this 300 lb man is standing on my pool table and actually says to me "your table is creaking." I told him to get off the table. I called the company informed them what the guy had done and that he just needed some simple scaffolding maybe using a ladder. It's only then did he do that. Why would he stand on a pool table? Why didn't he know how to use scaffolding? I'm not sure why but I hired Burtner again to put in electric for a mini split for a room I was finishing. Again-I had to wait 3 months for an appointment. Even after project was bid- employees came out and asked me what they were supposed to be doing. I couldn't imagine showing up for a job not knowing exactly what I was supposed to do. Is there no communication or preparation in this company? I had been hanging drywall all morning and stopped what I was doing to explain and they looked at me as if I was from outer space. If you claim to have been in the business for 20 years, how come they don't know how to put electric in for a mini spIit? It's northern Indiana for God's sake. I called the heating guy and had them speak with him and they still didn't know how to put at 240 v 30 amp line in. People on the google reviews have stated that he maybe hiring non electricians. I don't know whether that's true or not or maybe these were journeymen. They booked without doing a thing and I then rescheduled the appointment and they re- bid the job because apparently prices went up by 50% over the last 5 months. The owner specially asked the heating guy to be present when they did the job and he agreed. Do you know how hard it is to schedule two different companies to show up the same time? The day before the appointment I called Burtner and confirmed the appointment. Later that afternoon Burtner cancelled because it was too cold (it was over 32 degrees and they were doing little or no outside work). When I told my heating guy, who would have been doing most of the work outside, why the appointment was cancelled, he couldn't stop laughing about "this generation." We set another appointment and i again confirmed the day before. 30 minutes before start time Burtner again cancelled due to a snow storm expected later that evening. This is a 3 hour job at most and was scheduled to begin at 830 am, there is still no snow on the ground at 5 pm. I don't think this company really gives a hoot. It's time is more important than yours. When companies like this eventually fail, they start blaming the Chinese or Mexicans without taking an introspective look at their own behavior. Another day, another sucker (like me). Go with another company even if it costs you a little more. You will save time and headache. read more

I had a table lamp that didn't work correctly any longer. I found out about Burtner Electric and called and the lady who answered was very nice and customer service-oriented to me. (This was during Coronavirus shutdown.) They had a system whereby I could call them when I was in their parking lot. I dropped off the lamp and they had it fixed in a reasonable time and for a very reasonable cost. They were really great to work with! I would definitely do business with them again. read more
