This place is fabulous. It looks as if it may have been a frozen yogurt place at one point. You choose all the toppings, and it's absolutely delicious, and enormous I'm here during Canaloween in Yardley, and it's packed. I read another review from 5 months ago. Although I chose a chicken that was in a sauce, and not grilled, it was flavorful and not over cooked, and all the toppings appeared to be very fresh. Eat in, or take out.

I ordered a salad and this is the browning lettuce...inedible.

I will not be coming back...I ordered a salad for lunch and more than half the lettuce was brownie browning.

I'm not a big review person but absolutely 10/10 recommend this place! I ordered online and they called to inquire about something in the order and to confirm. It arrived and looked absolutely perfect.

After many good to great Mexican and Central American meals in and around Trenton, Burritos is a bit tame for my taste. What do I mean? Well, the food is about as good as any average Casa Mexicana across the river, but the atmosphere is not from South of the Border. It is rather staid. The only Spanish I heard was from the television tuned to a futbol game. I think I may have heard the friendly people behind the counter also habla algunas palabras. No music. No Latin American art. Neutral colors. A dull environment. Yet, my chicken flautas were pretty good, loaded with chicken and cheese, and deep fried to a dark brown ultra crisp finish, that defied the plastic fork and knife effort to cut through them. I could crush them, but the utensils were too weak to actually do much work. I ended up using my hands. Burritos does a nice job loading up the top of the dish with guacamole, lettuce, tomato, corn, salsas, and almost anything else they have on the work space in front of them. This in addition to the rice and black beans that tag along as accompaniment. I found the mango salsa to be quite tasty. They put a ton of food on the plate, and dare you to finish it all. I couldn't, but I was so full I did not want to think about taking the rest home. The servers are cool, but way different that the crews that serve me in Trenton. Those folks barely speak any Ingles, and work with primarily Spanish speakers, while here the folks appear bilingual and geared for the Yardley crowd. Certainly better than Chipotle and Taco Belch, but not the full monty found across the river in the old Chambersburg part of Trenton City or Hamilton.

Phenomenal food. Barbacoa burrito and chicken burritos were on point. All 3 ladies working today were very polite and knowledgeable.

Ok I left that so that you could see what my initial problem was, but I am extremely impressed with a quick response from Ricardo, who I believe is one of the owners and the help I got from the restaurant itself. And yes, I found several people that spoke English. And I'm so happy to be able to update this because the food is out of this world. But they did tell me that I have to order through DoorDash that I can't order for delivery through them so just note that And definitely stop by because this food is so outstanding that I don't believe there's any other Mexican restaurant that can touch this I lived in Arizona for five years and I found out what real Mexican food taste like and all the wonderful fresh ingredients they use like the American version of Chinese food. The American version of Mexican can be way way off and that's a shame because Mexican food is so healthy and so fresh when it's made by the right people that you can eat healthy and be extremely happy at the same time.

I'm very happy I gave it a try. It was a few miles away but tucked into an area I would have not have known about. The small parking lot was filled so I parked next door at a seedy liquor store. Inside are about 8 tables and a large open kitchen. There are a few options available at a steam table at the front, a few stews and a soup that all looked great, I may just go with one of those next time. While waiting for my to go order I could see the cooks taking pride in their craft. There were a few gringos like me dining in, and the dishes they ordered were plated beautifully. Once home I tore into my guac and chips first. Sturdy homemade chips with a citrusy guac. I just wished the guac had been put into a container so I could eat it later. The chicken tostadas looked a little beat up from the drive but were not soggy and were very well made. The chicken had been lightly charred on the flat top and all the ingredients blended perfectly. A note on the sauces, both red and green were thin ish, but very good. I was surprised that neither were too hot! I had the chicken empanadas for dinner and was again very pleased . These are on the larger size but a bit thin. As I was heating them I could detect a smoky flavor. The filling was excellent. It appeared to be chunks of roasted bird blended with potato, peas and carrots. It came with a separate baggie of shredded cabbage and carrots that I forgot about until just now. I get empanada often, and these were some of the best recent ones. The restaurant also has some sweet treats available in cases at the front, I kind of regret not trying any of those. Customer service was very good and with no language barriers. If this was closer it would probably become a regular stop for me. But I'll definitely return when I'm at the farmers market. 4.5 stars.....

I'd known about them for years, but they were kind of out of the way for me. The place is small and unassuming, which gave me high expectations, as sometimes I find myself having lower expectations for a more "Mexican" decorated place (I'm wrong as often as I'm right). As far as the Fish Tacos went, they do not serve the Baja style fried fish tacos that I'd grown up on out west, so it was a downer when the plater arrived and I saw the tacos filled with chopped fish cooked in broth. That said, at least the taco was well filled and the fish had a very good flavor. The broth turned out to be a major issue, as the (very tasty) single layer tortillas were soaking up the broth while I ate the first taco, and the second and third tacos both split at the seams and fell apart after one or two bites. A second tortilla may have prevented this debacle, but I won't order fish tacos here again. I'd have loved a fish soup made in this style. The next visit I tried Tacos de Tripa (fried pork intestines), which is my current go to taco style. They were very good, and I enjoyed the heck out of them. They were nice and crispy as I'd requested, and the excellent tasting tortilla made them an excellent choice. My wife had a cheese tamal that had ribbons of poblanos inside as well, and it was also very good with the poblanos providing a nice balance to the heaviness of the cheese. I'd get both again in a heartbeat. My third visit was at lunchtime, and I opted for a Torta de Chili Relleno--essentially a chili relleno sandwich. It wasn't the first I've ever had, and it's a fave torta when I see them on the menu--which isn't often. The torta arrived with a nice sized chili relleno along with the usual smear of beans, lettuce, tomatoes, avocado, and a couple pieces of queso fresco served on a lightly toasted roll. Overall, the torta was very good tasting, and it went down nicely. However, I wish they used a little firmer roll instead of the soft one they did use. The torta was big and warm, and a crustier roll would have been better. The soft one used was near to collapsing under the weight of the ingredients. Fries are an option on the many torta options for a couple dollars extra. In retrospect, I'd have liked to have added a layer of fries to the sandwich for a little extra kick. All in all, El Gallo Tropical is a place I'll continue to go to. The staff is very friendly, and the menu is extensive (too big?). Although I had them initially at three stars after my first visit for fish tacos, the second (4+) and third (4-) visits have raised them up, and I'm rounding up to a four.

Their themed burritos are a neat concept. The rest of the menu was pretty loaded with standard taco's, quesadillas, bowls, salads and appetizers like potstickers, curly fries/loaded fries, boneless wings and jalapeno poppers. They also have a "Chiwawa" which is a lightly fried panko crusted cheesy rice ball smothered in melted cheese with a choice of protein and toppings. The young lady who took my order recommended a Nashville Hot Crispy Chicken Burrito - burrito filled with white rice, crispy chicken tossed in Nashville Hot sauce, pickles, sour cream and cheese. $11.29. Their price point is around a dollar higher than a California Tortilla and Chipotle. The tortilla held together well, the portion of chicken was good, they packed it with a lot of rice, the chicken certainly had "Nashville chicken" flavors. I enjoyed the crispiness of the chicken. My son had a kids taco meal that came with a drink and chips. He wanted a second taco so the total came to $9.99. Chipotle has the same 2 taco meal for a few dollars less. The chips were stale, but the tacos weren't bad. The chicken had quite a bit of kick to it. He ate and was happy. The bathroom didn't look like it had been cleaned that day and the few tables they had for seating at the front of the store were dirty too. I might return if I'm in the area to try a quesadilla/something more traditional, but I wouldn't go out of my way to stop back.
