Very good food! We were in the area and looking for a good Mexican restaurant. There are a good amount of Mexican restaurants in the area but we came across this one in a strip mall. Before we entered the restaurant we were "distracted" by the vibrant ice cream store in the same strip. We walked in and were overwhelmed with all the ice cream options. Speaking to the owner, he said his family owns the EL Primo Plaza. We were on a mission for food, but will definitely visit the ice cream store in the future (our plan was after dinner, but dinner was so delicious and so filling, there was no room for dessert this time...better planning next time!). [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant is in a Mexican convenience store, but this is not your typical Mexican convenience store. They had so many options for everything. And they have this great bakery in the back before the restaurant. Everything looked SO good![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] In the back is a full sit down restaurant. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We were seated and it is nicely decorated and has a view into the kitchen to watch them make the food.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our server promptly greeted us with some chips and what I think was a mole sauce. They were very tasty. We decided on a watermelon drink and shared mixed fajitas. The watermelon drink was fresh watermelon and it was very refreshing. The mixed fajitas came out piping hot, full of steak chicken and good sized shrimp. Sometimes at other places you get the baby cocktail shrimp, but these were a good size and nicely grilled and seasoned. You get a nice amount of sides to make your fajitas. There was so much food that we asked for extra shells at no additional cost! We thought we put a dent in the food, but we had so much still to take home. Everything was so fresh and seasoned well. The meat was nice and tender. There was a good amount of peppers and onions but it wasn't overpowered as sometimes also we have gotten fajitas elsewhere when there is mostly veggies and very little meat. We eat here all the time as the food is incredible. We had Alex as a server for probably the second or third time we've been here. He is excellent. Checked on us multiple times to make sure all was good and that we didn't need refills or anything else. Great server. We love this place! Their taco are incredible here. This is my favorite Mexican spot in the area. Went towards the end of the day and the ordered the Cuban Torta since my wife and I didn't want to drive far to get a Dominican chimi. This little spot is hidden in the corner of a strip mall. Talk about delicious and authentic food. The breakfast was some of the best I have had at a restaurant. The menu is very small for breakfast but the food speaks for itself. The prices are so cheap for the amount of food you get. I've been living in Philly for 10 years and only recently got turned on to authentic Mexican pastries like pan dulce. A lovely young lady at work brought conchas to work a few times and I'd always think about them long after they were gone. So I knew I'd have to find a spot for them... I ventured out in the midday, hoping to get back before rush hour. We hit a spot not too far from El Primo Plaza- idk how it popped up on Yelp as a place with pan dulce, but they did NOT have fresh offerings. Only conchas in plastic bags- I know better. I wish I would knowingly buy some preservative-laden pastries. I launched Yelp again and searched again for pan dulce. Pan dulce 0.6 miles down the road, it said. The children and I hopped into the vehicle and we headed to El Primo. I smelled the pastries outside as soon as I opened the door to my car. I'm so glad we went here because the place is beautiful. It doesn't feel like we are in the US, near Philly. It feels like we are far from home. As soon as I saw the wall of baked goods, I was so glad I'd left the prior location. There were cakes and donuts, cookies and croissants, fresh juice and house made mangonada. There was a cozy area where we could've grabbed a meal. Overall, there's more I'd like to see and explore at El Primo Plaza. read more

My daughter told me about this place. We have been coming here for Mexican food ever since. We did take out before and recently had diner there several times. I normally not a huge fan of Mexican food but this place really changed my mind. Every time we come we are trying different dishes. Last time we had the Cuban torta. If you love a lot of meats, this is for you. It's so delicious. My boyfriend ate it all up. Tonight we went back and tried the Chipotle Shrimp which was recommended by our waitress. OMG. It was amazing. The sauce was so delicious that we mixed it with the rice. No sauce was left behind. This dish is my favorite one so far. We also got the fish taco which was very delicious too. Huge pieces of fishes in each tacos. Very fresh and lots of veggies accompanied it. The service has been excellent each time we come especially tonight. Our waitress was very attentive and her recommendation was delicious even down to the tres leches. The desserts here are not sweet which is prefect for me. We got strawberry tres leches, peach tres leches and flan to go. They ran out of horchata which is our favorite but the pineapple and papaya drinks were delicious also. They have so many different options from the food to the drinks to the desserts. They even have a market when you walk in. We use to go to On the Border and Las Margaritas. My sis told me about this spot and I am so happy she did. We ended up coming here to grab dinner with our niece and the food was soooooooo good! The food was authentic and besides it being a restaurant its a little shop/market and bakery all in one! Which is pretty awesome! When we were seated, we were helped right away and chips with a black bean type sauce arrived at the table. Those chips were different then ones Ive had at other Mexican restaurants-- and although not what I was used to--- I couldn't stop eating them! and I think I ate mostly all of them while my sister and niece looked on. For my entree, I ordered the steak and chicken fajitas and they were so fresh and tasty. They came out with a bunch of toppings like lettuce, cheese, guac, sour cream and also had a plate of rice and black beans. The fajitas were sizzling and steaming and smelled delish. I couldn't wait to go in on them. My sister also had the fajitas and she was happy with her meal. My niece ordered the enchiladas and was making all kinds of sounds as she ate it and was dancing at one point because it was just that good. The store has candies, food and other speciality items imported from Mexico. The bakery sells, pastries, cookies and full sized cakes. The restaurant offers both dine in with seating for approximately 25-30 people and take out. The food is authentic and very flavorful. I've eaten here 10+ times trying a variety of items and was more than happy every time. My favorites are the chicken fajitas and tres leches. Love the Primo chain and was thrilled to find this location! Similar to the other places, this is a grocery store, a restaurant and even a bakery. They had a vast selection of bread and pastries. We wanted to try something out of our norm so we found this Mexican grocery store/restaurant/bakery. While perusing the plethora of baked goods all of which had no names or indications of what they are. Most of them looked great, we just made wild guesses and grabbed a few things to try. White coconut cake was excellent. The cookie with the pecan on it was not so good. And the fluffy donut with some sort of cream inside was also very tasty. It's truly amazing how many baked goods they have here. I like the setup you just grab a tray and fresh clean tongs and pick what you like and they box it up when you pay for it. Prices were incredibly cheap, no prices for anything were listed. For those three items it was under $5. Cool little hidden gem, maybe sometime when I'm nearby I will stop back and try some hot savory foods. Downside I saw was the person in front of me paying ordered blended fruit drinks the cashier has to stop make the drinks and it took 5 minutes . while other people were working they could have done that or had someone else ring you up. El Primo Plaza is a Mexican multi store that offers grocery, bakery and taqueria within its walls. Right now, it is the apex for south of the border cuisine in Bensalem, PA. A good indication of its authenticity is the near totally Mexican customers shopping and eating there. Walking around the packed space it was clear that this was a family destination, with cakes and cookies for those with sweet teeth, and a broad menu for the rest of us seeking a more balanced diet. It was truly impressive. I was seated at a deuce facing the refrigerated display of sliced cakes, all with large strawberries or other fruit and colorful icing. Tempting, but I knew better than to start with dessert. So, I selected a plate of a large cheese stuffed poblano chile with yellow rice and beans, and small watermelon juice. Service was friendly and easily bilingual. The meal was made with all fresh ingredients and was delicious. It was covered in a red sauce that tasted like it had been blended and spiced just before pouring. And, the watermelon juice was cool, sweet and so refreshing - like sipping through a straw right out of the melon. All the while I watched little kids and their parents looking at all the sweets, buying them, and carrying them out in small boxes and bags for consumption at home, or in house dessert. Not really sure who was going to eat all I saw purchased, but next time I'm going to borrow my neighbor's kids and let them lead me around to those beautiful cakes and buy a few for me. I've been in this plaza several times but have not visit this place until I saw a friend of mine stopped by. My first impression of this place was "ooo interesting". They got a section with fresh fruits and vegetables and groceries; a bakery section with large selection of pastries; and a section that serves like a restaurant where you can sit down and eat. I came here with my newborn and a toddler. It is definitely not too suitable to have a stroller in the groceries and bakery section. What kinda give me an ughh was while my toddler was trying to pick out a pastry, I saw at least 4 fruit flies looking bugs flying inside where the pastries are display. Because that pastries section has a clear door covering the pastries, those fruit flies are basically flying and landing on the pastries. Ughh. That kinda make me feel a bit sick.
