Yet, the actual meals were good, and the Honey BBQ wings way better than average due in part to their initial preparation as Buffalo Wings, then lathered with the thick sweet tang of the Honey BBQ recipe, giving the wings a hot sweet sallow flavor that can lead to compulsive eating disorders. The Original Recipe Buckets are also quite good, especially for feeding teenage boys coming together for a party. Thus, my reason for being there late last week, as I waited for the order to be packed and bagged. I was surprised when the bucket of 20 pieces and box of 20 wings came in over $40., but nothing is too good for my now teenage son. My car smelled of greasy BBQ on the ride home, and it tortured my saliva glands so much that I nearly pulled over to put one of those rusty red chicken wings in my mouth. I overcame that impulse and made it home in 20 minutes. As soon as I entered the house, my son, his friends, and a couple of parents became transfixed at the aroma, and silently rose to follow me into the dining room. Shades of Night of the Living Dead. The entire batch was devoured in a half hour, and there were sated smiles all around. I am convinced that a chemical analysis of the chicken coating would turn up crack in the mix. It was that good. Have to be careful as this stuff is quickly addictive, but so damn yummy.

I enjoyed watching the cook cut the right length of the coiled sausage, slide it into the torpedo roll and then push in the sautéed onion and green pepper. Same approach to the hot dog using the shortie bun. This is all takeout, so I didn't start consuming until I was sitting at my kitchen table. The sausage was as solid as expected; a well butchered tube of quality meat and spices. Not as sure about the hot dog, which was a small disappointment. It was room temperature rather than heated thoroughly on the grill. It seemed that it had been sitting on an unheated part of the larger steel, and used in the sandwich without checking on its readiness. That oversight is easily corrected if supervision is attentive. I have been going to Nifty Fifty's since I was in HS in the 90's. I was so excited to have this location open, until yesterday. You can see I went when this location first opened and gave them 5 stars. Things have changed. I stopped by and got a milk shake and cheese fries to go. I sat outside on their bench for 5 minutes. Ate a few fries and finished a phone call before heading home. When I got home I opened the fries and there were bugs in them. I immediately got sick and ran the food outside to the trash. I tried to call the restaurant 4 times with no answer. I called another location to make sure I had the right number, which I did. Today I went back to tell them what happened. I asked to speak with manager privately as this was something I didn't want to talk about openly. I asked for a refund, which they denied. They said they were so busy they couldn't answer the phone. It was empty when I was there less than 30 minutes prior so I find that hard to believe. They said I sat at the bench for the 5 min and that's where I got the bugs. They said they would remake the food but I couldn't sit at a table even though the place was empty. At this point I did say very loudly there were bugs in my food and I wanted corporates number, which they would not provide. They then asked me to leave when people were asking what happened. I'll take up a dispute with my credit card. I didn't photo the bugs as I was physically ill from thinking about the ones I ate at the restaurant and had drank 1/2 my milkshake. I'm very sad that this will be my final visit to Nifty Fifties but even when offered replacement food. At first I said yes but I immediately felt sick about it and said no thank you. I won't be able to ever go back here. I filled out their online form for customer service but at this point there is nothing that can be done. Update: I did hear from corporate within 24 hours. One of them was crying and clearly trying to hide it, while the other girl rubbed her back and comforted her before we came up to the register. I asked what was wrong, and she said she had fallen. Not even a minute later, a manager came up (she was wearing a shirt that said "Manager") and said to the girl, "I'm sorry for yelling at you. I just didn't feel like having a hurt employee." I was in shock. I felt horrible for her. I haven't gone back since because of what appeared to be poor treatment of their staff. Today, after my niece's graduation, I decided to stop in for some fries and a shake. Horrible idea. I walked in and was not greeted. I was stared at, given dirty looks, and I'm pretty sure an employee took my picture. The girl who took my order was wearing gloves and was boxing food with the same gloves on. I can't complain about the taste of the food, but I think both the cleanliness and the treatment of staff need a BIG upgrade.
