I haven't been here in a while because last time the service and the food was not good. This time the experience was a little different. The place was empty. The employee was working by herself. She took the order along with another persons and began making our food while we both looked at the hot sauce wall! The walk was once filled with options to try of various heat strengths. Now it's barely full, the bottles are mostly empty or one of gross. They need to fix this area or just remove it. I took nothing from it. Grabbed my food to go! Go the bbq ranch as a bowl. It was a very large bowl of food. Everything was delicious and fresh. The right amount of sauce and rice were used. I love this combination! I will return for another bowl before my next birthday this year. I really hope the sauces get updated. I miss trying them out! I'm a huge Mexican food junkie, so I had to try out this place when I heard that they were pretty good (and that they had a whole wall of hot sauce). You order at the counter and then seat yourself and wait for them to prepare your food. There was no wait on this Saturday afternoon, so I decided I'd try the nachos with the veggie option, without sour cream. The food was ready pretty quickly. The nachos looked great! but didn't taste as good as they looked. It was nacho cheese, instead of shredded cheese, which is probably what ruined it for me. If there's an option to substitute for real cheese, I'd try that next time. Otherwise, the nachos weren't too bad. Also, I don't like giant chunks of sweet peppers and onions, so I'd ask them to leave those out next time too. My boyfriend's burrito was enjoyable, however. Side note: bathrooms weren't dirty, but both soap dispensers were empty, as were the paper towels. Ew. I don't know what happened to this place (understanding we are going through/getting over a pandemic) but there's less foot traffic and the place is a disaster. Floors are sticky, unkept. Forget about the wall of hot sauce ...it's completely empty. Soda fountain ...empty, no joke. I rated two stars based on the look of the place. I haven't even gotten home to eat yet so an update will be coming. Update - Home now and wouldn't you know, the "qt" of Queso is for sure not 32 ozs. Looks like 16oz to me. Knew this little scale purchased to weigh meat would come in handy. Paid for extra cheese on all tacos, no extra cheese. Paid for extra meat and cheese for the burrito, no extra meat or extra cheese. California Tortilla is a great change of pace from other Mexican fast food restaurants in the area. They have some unique options, like the blackened chicken caesar or honey lime burritos, that you can't find at other places. They're more than happy to switch out the meat for one of their two veggie blends in any dish, which makes it very vegetarian and vegan friendly. The prices are fair, around $10 for a meal, and the service is usually fast. There's always a clean place to sit in the dining area. I can also never pass up the Wall of Flame with all of the different hot sauces! I docked a star because even though they have specific sized scoops for each ingredient, sometimes they can be a little inconsistent in the amount of each ingredient that goes into the dishes. I ordered via the website and my order was delivered without the burrito. I called the store and the woman who answered (Scarlett) said that she couldn't send another out, I would have to come pick it up. I told her that wasn't possible and said I would like a refund. She said that she could only process refunds in person. I told her that wasn't possible and she said that her manager told her this. I asked to speak to her manager and she told me to call him myself. She gave me his phone number and told me his name was Bobby. I called and Bobby didn't answer. Convinced my wife and daughter to come here as I had a good burrito here in the past. Big mistake. The girl behind the counter was high as a kite. Not one smile, no eye contact, and as my wife was asking questions about menu, all answers were condescending at best. As we were ordering a gentleman walked up behind her with a baseball hat with a huge pot leaf on it. Something tells me this wasn't company issued. Our food was lukewarm at best, and as we walked to our dirty table- as were the others around us- the young lady informed us that "there wasn't much left in the soda machine." Dirty floors, garbage cans were filthy , and on and on.... I contacted them about my experience through email from their website and never received a reply. An absolute waste of $31 and a big fat I told you so from my wife and 9 year old daughter. California tortilla is one of my favorite spots. The food here is really tasty and largely portioned. I recommend any of the burritos, but be warned: they are THICC. The California Tortilla Langhorne Square location is no longer able to accept Burrito Bucks with its online ordering system. I placed a scheduled order in advance earlier this week, and I received an email just as I arrived that the order could not be completed. The email said I would receive my payment back, but I never got back the Burrito Bucks I paid with. The manager said he could not help me and to email corporate instead. I sent an email to California Tortilla's "Contact Us" this past Wednesday, 11/17/21, but have not heard back. This kind of customer service is subpar and I do not recommend ordering from this location anymore. read more

Stopped here for a late lunch after a doctor's appointment near by. My brother lives near by and I remembered he had recommended it. Only 2 people eating in the whole place when I walked in. No one at the register but I didn't mind as I didn't know what I wanted to order. I quickly focused on the burrito side of the menu and there was many options to chose from. BACON caught my attention immediately!!! I ordered the Bacon Chicken Club burrito I made it a "fresh deal" which came with a side and a drink for $3.19 more. I asked the cashier the sides choices and she spouted them off the top of her head. I got chips & queso. I paid with a card & had to sign the receipt for some reason even though it was only $11.64. This is the average price for these type of Mexican fast food places. Got my drink out of the Coke freestyle machine & my name was called shortly. I spent a good 2-3 minutes deciding on what sauces to try. They have over 75 choices. I chose 3 and put them into the little cups they provide. Burrito was huge! They left the foil unwrapped halfway already which is nice prevent it from falling apart and getting all over you hands. Ingredients were fresh. Huge tomatoes and chicken chunks. Couldn't really taste the chipotle ranch sauce until the middle of the burrito. I tried each hot sauce and liked the JT Pappy's Gator sauce the best. Chips were crisp and had the right amount of salt. Queso was excellent although I did have to keep stirring it as it started to harden a bit on top. Employees seemed busy and were cleaning and preparing other food. One employee announced that another patron's food was ready in an announcer type voice which I found funny. I used to love this place, but it's gone downhill. This started before the pandemic, but got worse afterwards. Very slow. Dingy. Uninviting. Needs a physical makeover. Needs better management. Soda machine constantly out of many options. No sauces anymore. All of that would have only been an annoyance if the food quality remained the same. The last three visits my order was wrong. Also the quality of the steak is terrible now and flavorless. No seasoning at all. They have problems keeping things warm. I always eat in the store and other than the blackened fish, all other proteins are consistently not warm. I like the California Tortilla menu, but this location is bad. They're lucky that Chipotle has a limited flavor profile, but Chipotle does auch better job executing their menu. I'm switching to Chipotle down the road. Hope this place shapes up. Love this place!! Their queso and chips are the best. I always order an extra queso. The chips are a nice portion. I had the Mixed Grill Chef's Bowl. I love it!!! It comes with chicken and steak but I was just feeling red meat today so I ordered it with steak only. Their portions are pretty big. I can never finish the bowl in 1 meal. So I get the rest to go and have lunch for tomorrow. I also hate cilantro so I did not get the salsa on it. They are very accommodating to changes. They have 2 soda machines with hundreds of soda choices. The also have fresh brewed sweet tea and unsweet tea. This is always important to me. I actually will chose a place to eat based on that. California Tortilla has good, fresh grub in a Mexican/Tex-Mex style. The store is large and clean, and the staff seems into its mission. My Chicken Quesadilla was loaded with Beans, Corn, Lettuce, Fresh Jalapenos, Monterrey Jack and plenty of Doodle Do. The Tortilla was thin and crisp from heating on the grill as its ingredients were gathered and mixed and then sealed with the melting of the cheese. It was very nice. Their signature is the wall of hot sauces that you can select and pour into little plastic cups in any configuration and quantity you wish. I went with the Bee Sting Honey/Habanero and Pineapple Pizzazz (I do love fruity salsas). The Pineapple combo was deliciously hot and played well with the quesadilla. The Bee Sting was exactly that. Hot, piquant, and left me to drive home with semi-numb lips. It was great! So, while I normally prefer my Southwestern cuisine in divey bars in Tucson or Nuevo Laredo, or even in the transformed taverns of Trenton that are now all Latin eateries, California Tortilla offers a very tasty and entertaining alternative, especially if you don't like adventure as part of your dining experience. read more

I was extremely disappointed in the lackluster customer service here. I stopped in here about three Fridays ago. Admittedly, I waited on writing this review because any time I have an overwhelmingly negative experience, I fear that I might write a reaction to it based on still feeling upset and I wanted to write objectively. So I preferred to let it sit, and honestly I still feel that there was no excuse for this lack of service. I came in around 7:30pm-8pm on a Friday night. There were a few customers at tables but it was not packed at all. There was a big enough crew working - a person taking an order at the side register closest to the entrance, a line of workers making the food in the main area, and a woman who was floating between those areas - presumably the manager. I stood up by the counter in a central-enough area to be noticed, and I was not acknowledged by anyone. Nobody asked to take an order, nobody even said hello or that they would be with me shortly. They were working, I want to be clear about that. But nobody seemed rushed or overwhelmed with orders to even acknowledge a customer waiting. In fact, the employee who was working at the register by the entrance (which I believe might have been an online order pickup station) finished talking to the people who were getting their food as I walked in...and then she proceeded to grab cleaning supplies and wipe down counters as I stood there waiting. The line employees never looked up from their station. The person I assume was the manager walking between areas, she was talking to people, checking some paperwork, etc. nothing that suggested she was rushed either. So after about 10 minutes, I decided my craving for a burrito wasn't worth it and simply walked out. I have pretty strong opinions when it comes to this type of service, as evidenced by a separate review regarding a different business I wrote a number of years ago with a similar experience. I consider ignoring customers to be the #1 dealbreaker by businesses, as most other issues can be chalked up to mistakes in some capacity or another. But an entire staff ignoring a visibly-waiting customer is not a mistake. I don't plan on going back here, and I'm okay with that because the other reviews regarding the quality of the food here seem to be split anyway. read more

I've driven past this location several times but had never heard of it at all (didn't realize it's a chain). Decided to stop in tonight after a flight from the West Coast. The menu descriptions seemed amazing and the service was prompt ... but the food was utterly awful! I missed lunch today so my standards aren't too high, but everything was completely bland and flavorless. The only thing with a little flavor was the "California Screamin" taco that was medium, at best. Chicken is served in huge, two-bite chunks that makes no sense on a taco. The guacamole was completely bland, too. I've had better pre-packaged and shipped in to a grocery store. Also, it's just plain false advertising to sell these as "street tacos." Now I know why there's a wall of 75 hot sauces...you HAVE to have them to make the food taste like food. The only thing I found flavorful was the Coke Freestyle machine. I think that says it all. It pains me to give this place one star. But I am seriously disappointed. When it first opened everything was clean and fresh. But recently, things have been going down hill. I continuously give this place "second chances" but maybe it's time to move on. Usually, I order a burrito,chips and guac. I love the crunchy BBQ ranch and bacon chicken burritos. Tonight,I branched out and got the CBT Quesadilla. I was disappointed. There was hardly any chicken in the Quesadilla. My side of guac was not fresh at all and had a funky taste to it. My friend ordered the Enchilada Rice bowl and they were also disappointed. The guac on top wasn't fresh and had a funny taste. Majority of the bowl was shredded lettuce and very little rice/chicken. Also, the past few times we've been in Cal Tor.. It's been dirty. Dirty tables, food all over the floors, puddles by the soda machine (that I've slipped in), dirty/sticky/smelly soda machines. I don't understand how this is ok? Staff has been good and bad. Some are really helpful, kind and hardworking. Others just stand around and hold up the wall. It's a toss up. When my food was ready I noticed that the guacamole had a greenish brown color to it and it looked and tasted like it had been sitting out for a while. Travelled to the area from Detroit for a few short days. Went to planet fitness and found this place in the same parking lot so I figured I'd give it a try. Walked in, staff explained the menu very well. They have a serious selection of Burritos, bowls, salads, And STREET TACOS. I got a California Club taco and a Blackened fish taco. They were amazing. The club taco was surprisingly good, then I moved to the blackened fish taco. It was the best fish taco I've ever had. It was so good, I went and got another one. But when it just wouldn't break apart at all, I spit it out and found that there was a rubber band in my food. Awful. Warrants a call to the health department. California Tortilla is clean, trendy, inviting, "elevated" fast food chain with fresh Tex/Mex/West Coast inspired "bowls," burritos, tacos, salads, and more. John and I stopped in today and both of us went for steak options in our entrees. John ordered steak "Street Tacos" and I ordered the Korean BBQ bowl (which was a Korean/Tex-Mex fusion experience...fajita vegetables, shredded seasoned cabbage, the steak, Korean BBQ sauce, and sriracha sauce - over rice). The protein portions were very generous, with large chunks of sliced steak that were nicely grilled and still medium pink on the inside. What a lovely surprise. A wall of hot sauce bottles offers fire-lovers a chance to go crazy spicing up their dishes. Staff is friendly and enthusiastic. Lots of soft drink options, featuring Nantucket Nectars and a couple of dispensing machines that seem to offer dozens of choices - including several flavors of Vitamin Water in addition to the usual sodas! Unbelievable TERRIBLE! I ordered a quesadilla and when I got home and opened it, I had 3 small chunks of meat on a tortilla with no cheese or onions. Seriously, it couldn't have taken more than 5 seconds to make. I called the Langhorne, PA store and when I tried to explain my disappointment, a lady told me she was too busy to help and could I call back? I said, "No I paid for lunch and am very disappointed," she hung up on me. I called back and she used the F word with me and hung up again. I called back and her manager, a middle eastern gentleman told me, "You get that and nothing else." I told him I would contact corporate and when I did, the California Tortilla phone number offers nothing, especially a live person. To make things worse, the guacamole and cheese were both spoiled. The guac tasted like old milk. Absolutely disgusting experience. You're way better off with McDonalds over this glorified Taco Bell with spoiled products and customer service who talks to you like you're trash. The Langhorne, Pa store is horribly managed. I stumbled upon this place on my way to work one day. It's like a lesser known version of Chipotle. The service was quick and I got my burrito in like 5 minutes. I came here during prime lunch hours and did not have to wait at all to order. As for flavors, I don't think it's anything extraordinary. I did really enjoy the wall of hot sauces though, each numerically labeled based on spiciness. I had a number 4 hot sauce and it was plenty spicy for me. If you are a fan of that Other Tex-Mex chain (you know, the one with the scandals in the past year or so).....I would strongly encourage you to come visit this place. You will not be disappointed. Their prices are basically the same (so you know what $ you're walking into), however the portions for their bowls are bigger than That Other Place, and that's just the beginning. The spicy chicken bowl is, in fact, spicy but won't kill you if you don't often eat spicy food (They also have little flames on the menu board to let you know how hot stuff is - if you're a two-flame person don't get the four-flame bowl). The ambience is like a take-out place that wants to be a dine-in place...there is a lot of space with booths and tables. It's clean, and the service is always fast and friendly. You can still watch your bowl (or tortilla, or whatever you prefer) be created right in front of you, and scamper out with your goodies often in under 5 minutes (though peak lunch and dinner times there can be a wait). If you like Tex-Mex, sizeable portions, fast and friendly service it will be hard to go wrong coming here - so what are you waiting for? read more

I used to love this place. The whole summer of 2017 I was always getting food that wasn't good but AMAZING. Unfortunately, the quality that used to be 5 stars on it's worst day and 6/5 stars on it's best day is gone. Ever since my favorite people left, the quesadillas have taken a turn for the worst. Every single visit since some drama amongst the employees cause the best people to quit, the food has been barely mediocre. Back when I was starting to eat there as a regular, my only minor complaint was about the texture of the queso. Back then, the flavor of the entree more than made up for the texture issue or the minor thing of too much chunks that changed the flavor of the cheese. My last visit was January 6th 2018, my 24th birthday and I'm sad to say that the days I loved are permanently over. That visit was the last straw. That was the 3rd time in a row the food was barely mediocre and I can never go back. The ONLY way I'll go back to spending up to $34 per visit is if the best people return. read more

We went in to this shopping center yesterday to get some lunch and saw the sign for the new California Tortilla, so we headed over for some burritos! They weren't actually open yet, but were having a special practice event where we got free food and drinks so that the staff could prepare for the grand opening and so that they could get feedback. We were very happy with our meals! The service was a bit slow - but like I said they were learning and I'm sure that will improve. I'd rather good food be slow than bad food be fast anyway. My burrito bowl was the "no meato" and had big chunks of fresh peppers and zuchini (among the other ingredients). The sauce was fresh and tasty as well. My husband had a chicken burrito of some variety and it was pretty darn good too. The chicken was fresh and rubbed in some sort of spice mix which made it less boring (cause let's face it ... chicken can be boring). I have to start this review off by first stating that I'm not a big fan of "Tex Mex" or "chain" Mexican restaurants in general. Not at all. So, you can call me a snob if you like, but as a former long term resident of California, which everyone knows has the best Mexican restaurants in the country AND as a frequent visitor south of the border to partake of the tasty victuals from whence they originated, when it comes to Mexican food, it almost goes without saying that my palate is more, shall we say, refined than the average strip mall visitor. Now that I've impressed you with my ability to pen a ridiculously long sentence, I'll explain why, although everything I've said above is the whole truth and nothin' but, I'm giving this particular California Tortilla a well-earned 5 stars. First of all, the service was great, from the time I walked in, till the time I left. (And FYI, my family never makes it easy when we place orders, what with 7-year-old twins that can never make their minds up about what they want to eat.) Our disjointed, long-winded, confusing order didn't faze the CT crew one bit. And BONUS, our kids got to spin a wheel (like a miniature version of the one on "Wheel Of Fortune") good for a free burrito our next trip there. We got exactly what we ordered and our order made it to our table in minutes, fresh and hot. And the food? It was excellent. Truth be told, I actually intended to order hard shell tacos and ordered soft shell tacos by mistake. Why? Because I HATE soft shell tacos. Well, not these bad boys. After I got over the fact they weren't hard shell tacos, I was amazed at how well-seaoned the steak was. And the fish tacos were out of this world. Not only was the fish fresh and delicious - the toppings - the cabbage slaw, lime, cilantro, and chipotle sour cream were perfect. (And another thing about the fish - it was actually pleasantly crispy. Not sure how they pulled that off, but there was no discernible breading and it wasn't fried, and yet it was OH SO CRISPY. Something my tastebuds and tapeworm were absolutely giddy about. Oh yeah, I actually went there. I did in fact, use the word giddy.) My family was equally pleased with their food. They ordered the quesadillas, burritos and tacos. My 7-year-old son, Noah, who has been inhaling Tabasco sauce like he gets paid to do it since he was 2, loved the "Wall Of Flame" which appears to have every hot sauce known to mankind. And we all loved the chips and queso, which is far superior to Moe's. (The chips AND the queso.) One last thing. While I was eating, I noticed that the owner of the restaurant was constantly interacting with the customers to make sure they were happy with their food.
