My brother and I were making a delivery in Madera and decided to stop in for some breakfast burritos. Very glad we did. One of the best breakfast burritos I have had. And I've had them alll over Southern and Central California. My brother said the same. Nice chunks of potatoes instead of hash browns. Passing through Madera, California, I stopped here during breakfast hours on a Saturday morning. Instead of breakfast, I ordered two pupusas a la carte. The hostess apologized for the wait, but it was well worth it! The pupusas were very tasty, and dry, not greasy at all. The amount of filling was just right - not overfilled to be messy, nor too skimpy to make me feel cheated. The curtido was relatively mild (maybe not marinated too long yet?) but a nice counterpoint to the pupusas' gentle spiciness. This place is pretty solid. I feel like the worst part about Madera is how harsh people are on local establishments. The enchiladas are a hit with my family, so Fridays are the jam with their enchilada special for that day. The chips and salsa are great as well. Some days it's hotter than others, and I always appreciate the extra heat. Went to Burrito King for a dinner/meeting. This location, formerly a Chinese restaurant, has a fairly large banquet room in the back, probably about 1,000 square feet. I found it odd that two other "events" were going on in the same room, one a 50th b-day party, another unidentifiable gathering of about 20 people. I spoke w/ one of the organizers of our event, and she said she paid a deposit for the use of the room. If I were throwing the event, I would have been majorly ticked. Was served a buffet of chile verde, chicken enchiladas, beans and rice. Pretty ordinary Mexican fare. On to the meeting portion of the evening; had about an hours worth of speaking which was clearly inaudible because of the two other parties going on in the same room. Add that to the high ceilings and lack of microphone and you experienced mimery at its best. So with lackluster food and multiple bookings in a banquet room, I'd be pretty leary of using this place for any sizeable event. read more

Yummy food! Hot and delicious shrimp quesadilla that my husband and I shared. Tgey gave us some chips and salsa which was nice and crunchy. We also got King burritos that were so big I couldn't finish it. Took it home. It was my first wet burrito ever, which I was anxious about but it was delicious. God knows I hate to waste money on food I don't like but this did not disappoint and I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked it. Burrito King has a large banquet room in the back. However, from reading Janet S's review, you might have to make sure you are the only one using it. It is the perfect setting for a large party. The buffet that was served was tasty and service was excellent. I gather it's always the same buffet from reading other reviews--chili verde, chicken enchiladas, rice, beans, tortillas. This was a first for me. We took our crew here for dinner we had 6 people. The food was ok at best. My chimmychanga was just a tortilla shrimp and fried, nothing inside no cheese nothing, there was no sauce on top and had no flavor!! The others had fajitas they said were very good one had a king burrito and was good. The waitress left us mid order and did not come back we had a different server that was very attentive. It's such a shame, Burrito King has been THE place to go for good Mexican food in Madera for decades. It's become pretty bland, and service has much to be desired. My aunt and I ordered the chicken tortilla soup to go... it took quite a long time to get the order, then when we got home we realized THERE WAS NO CHICKEN in the soup. Had to call in and go back for a replacement. They were gracious about it, gave us replacements and extra chicken to add to the original order. Still, that just seems par for the course for Burrito King now. There are a lot of new Mexican food places in town now, maybe try them instead. read more

Sad. For starters, the only area with any ambiance was the bar . The dining area was plain and looked cheesy . What decor they had was bunched in a corner. A fountain, plastic plants , lights and bamboo rods all pulled together. Drinks came late and sparse. Had to ask for everything. Food drinks silverware . I've lived in Madera 44+ years . This was my first time eating here. It will be the last. Two people in my group had burritos (one was chili con carne and the other was chicken). Both just lacked flavor. Very bland. The boiled chicken soup was also bland and was served in barely lukewarm broth. The chicken enchiladas were bland AND were refrigerator level cold inside. Was part of a large party and of the many that attended -- 1 person got hives, 1 threw up 20 minutes after the mean, 1 other person had bad stomach cramps and 1 other also vomited. The food overall -- was mediocre (no salt, bland) Service -- lady got a couple of drink orders wrong and forgot one persons order all together. If you are from madera then you know about the village. I can't give this place a full five star review knowing that... They aren't the village lol. I miss the village. I crave the village constantly and this place makes me sad.... That being Said, I'm just not a huge fan of Mexican restaurants that try to mask their lack of flavor with extra cheese. Burrito king's quality of food service fell to shame for not providing a good and worthy bowl of caldo de res. My brother ordered the soup to go and what a BIG MISTAKE that was, for they left out the main ingredients like corn, carrots, potatoes, and meat. They need to sell the soup in clear containers so the consumer can point out the deficiencies of ingredients. My brother was looking to having a delicious bowl of soup but he was extremely pissed off that he didn't get his monies worth. That's absolutely shameful that a restaurant can sell worthless TRASH OF soup water. Being that my brother was visiting for short time and left with nothing to enjoy. If 1/2 a star was available, I would have given them just that and that being said he'll definitely will not return for shoddy quality!!! read more

Chicken was fine, chile verde pork was actually rather good but the carne asada was pretty bad in terms of being grisly meat without much flavor. My mom usto bring me to Burrito King since decades ago when they were at a different location. I had been gone for years and recently ordered some food the other day. Honestly it was all good. The rice was moist fluffy and flavorful. Beans were great. Chicken Enchiladas were great. The chicken wasn't dry. The carne asada tacos were good! The meat wasn't dry. They have the best red salsa in town!! The lady that gave me my food for pick up gave me a ton of salsa for my chips! I was like wow! The cashier was nice and the other lady that brought my food was nice. I was definitely satisfied. I'm really surprised that they don't have at least 4.5-5 stars. I seen bad reviews about fights but that's just stupidity. Write about food. One of my spots to go to when i want a torta well made . i dont know if they have this torta on the menu but i Told them to make it this way and they perfected it just the way i wanted it toasted on both sides the meat was a long piece of asada rancherra rice beans mexican cheese avocado and lettuce it was perfect even the bread they used was tosted in side with mayo all i can say is perfection top with stake fries . i had to to take a picture. see for your self read more

The service was horrible! The food was almost as bad!! The waitress was very nice however she only filled our drinks 1 time & took our basket for more chips but never brought them. It took a long time to get out food & we had to ask for forks & napkins. I ordered a salad with my meal & the rest of my party order a soup but we ALL got soup. There were not busy at all there were only us & 1 other table filled including both dinning rooms. The food wasn't very good either nobody in our party like the food they ordered. This is our regular stop for Mexican food in the Madera area. The food is good (not mind-blowing fantastic, but good and consistent), but what really sets this place apart is the outstanding service that we get every time. No matter how busy the restaurant is, we are greeted with a smile and seated quickly (a big deal when you are dragging three kids under 5). Once seated, the servers are friendly and attentive, and the environment is relaxed. We do like the food here (try some of the house specials), but what keeps us coming back is the people running the restaurant. The only thing keeping this from being a 5-star review is that I have had better, more creative Mexican food elsewhere. However, I don't think you can do better anywhere in the Central Valley. UPDATE It breaks my heart to write this, but Burrito King appears to be having problems. I went in about three weeks ago with some business associates after raving about a great place I knew for dinner. The food ended up being fine, but only after we had to wait (and wait, and wait) for every stage of service. I was disappointed, but I chalked it up to a bad evening. Tonight I was out with my family and we decided to do Burrito King for dinner. The server was as friendly as usual, but she seemed harried; she struggled to get to us and then forgot parts of the drink and chip order. Okay, not a big deal. My sons both got milk to drink, and both complained that they didn't like the milk. I tasted it, and it was spoiled. We told the server, and she apologized and told us that the drinks would be on the house tonight (more on that later). Our food finally came after a long wait, and my combination plate had a puddle of water with the flauta, chile relleno, and burrito sinking to a watery grave. The rice and refried beans may have originally been okay, but after sitting in that puddle they were inedible. I won't go into the details of our other meals, but the quality was similar. After not finishing, I asked for the check, didn't get it, and ended up paying up at the register without getting a receipt. It was only out in the parking lot that I realized I had been charged for everything - including those drinks. I like the people at Burrito King, and I used to love eating there. I won't be going back, however, until they have some time to straighten out whatever has gone wrong there. I hope they can do it! read more

The tacos were much too greasy but not in a good way at all and they actually use American cheese on the tacos I thought that was strange. Yuck! I'm sorry but this place was low quality. The food was greasy and the carne Asada tasted old n grizzely. The waitress' was nice I think she was making up for her not being in the front to seat us down or give us silverware( we pretty much had to get our own menus n forks). It's not worth the $7.50 for the burrito and on top of that it didn't even come with beans and rice you had to add it for $2.
