The taste in the green chili is as big as Kathleen's personality! Come for lunch, but stay for the hospitality! Games for all ages, free fruit and cookies on the table, and don't forget to try the green chili lemonade! All outdoor seating works well with the great Cimarron breeze. If you love the Scouts, take a look at the Scouting patches guests have donated. This is a must stop whether visiting Philmont or passing through to Red River. read more

Do yourself a favor and stop by for a delicious lunch, perfect lemonade and the friendliest customer service you'll ever find. There's a reason there is always a line in front of this place. Woke up and craved some breakfast burritos, so got a coffee at Hiker's and walked down to Burrito Banquet that advertised breakfast around 10AM. Kathleen, the owner, was setting up and informed us that she only does lunch these days and would be open at 11. So we went to the Aztec Mill Museum to kill some time and came back right at 11 to get our craving fulfilled. My daughter said that Kathleen was beautiful with a wonderful smile that shone past the packed canon on her hip. Got 2 steak with X-mas sauce and a bean and cheese. These all came with chips and some great homemade salsa. The lemonade washed it all down before we went to the Canyon to hike Clear Creek Trail. read more

We stopped by after our Philmont trip. The owner was very friendly and was out there playing games with the youth in between orders. We all had a lot of fun and she was generous in giving out cookies and oranges. The chili lemonade was amazing! The menu was straightforward and the food we ordered was tasty, but to put it mildly, the portions were small. I thought I was getting a deal -- $9 for a burrito and chips and salsa -- until I got it. It was served in what amounted to a paper hot dog tray. Heck, the burrito we got at Abreu camp was at least twice as large. There was more than one "this is a great appetizer, where are we going for dinner?" going around the table. Ultimately we stuffed ourselves on the free oranges and cookies, played a ton of games, then went back to camp to have some of the snacks left from the trail. Glad we went, but I'd only do this again at the beginning of a trek, not the end when you're craving lots of real food. read more

We stoped at this adorable place on the way out of town from our weekend getaway in Cimarron. We ordered 3 burritos, a tostada, and two lemonades which one was FREE with a hit at the bell tower (so much fun)! One of the best parts of road trips are the unexpected stops that turn into great stories and life long memories. While driving through Cimarron New Mexico on our last day of vacation we saw a woman waving a sign saying burritos.Thankfully my fiancé and I stopped, turned around, and went back to the cute burrito trailer. Kathleen met us with hospitality like we were family stopping by to visit. She explained the menu and we ordered our breakfast burritos. We ordered a lemonade (on the house if you can swing a hammer and ring the bell) and an Arnold Palmer. We decided to sit and eat there as she has a fun and comfortable outside seating area that is pet friendly. She offered us fresh fruit that was in baskets on the tables. Our burritos were delicious and we loved her fresh salsa. What a treat. We will be back. read more

The lemonade was advertised cold and it was, indeed, very cold. Served in plastic cups with a smile and a friendly joke. And they were free with a heavy hammer. After a long morning of fishing, the cold Nectar brought us back to life and already scheming on our next adventure. Now onto to the food. Our chili could not have been better inside or out, both green and red, and the burritos had even us Texans proud. Everything came with extra spicy sauce and a side of a positive attitude from the staff. All was much appreciated. We were skeptical at first based on the old trailer and tourist-indulgent signage outside. But the Banquet is testament that restaurants, much like the people that run them, are not tethered to their outside appearance--in this case, hipped Bowie knife and revolver included. They can surprise you time and time again. Carry on! Carry on! read more

After seeing some reviews here and other online locales, I decided to stop by Burrito Banquet as I was passing through. I tried the Grand Male (deluxe burrito). It came with the choice of green chile or red chile seasoned meat, lettuce, tomato, cheddar cheese and was accompanied by a side of chips and salsa (the salsa is made by the proprietor). I sampled both the red and the green chile and both were excellent, but the toppings and chips were generic fare. I do wish the burrito was a little bigger, however. The drink selection is limited to iced tea, homemade lemonade, RC Cola and a citrus soda (I don't recall the brand). I would definitely stop here again. read more

We had lunch here while visiting our son who is working at Philmont this summer. It was delicious and I highly recommend this place! Amy took your order, made it up, then delivered it to our picnic table behind her food trailer...all with a smile...you can tell she enjoys serving her customers! Everything was fresh and super good! We rambled into rough and tumble Cimarron NM bright and early on a Sunday morning. Hungry as hell and looking for some tasty breakfast, we headed to the St. James hotel. Alas! Twas not to be, those lazy folk were not open until 11 and there were trout to be caught later. Slighty dejected but still ravenous, we began to prowl around for alternate spots. Enter burrito banquet, the proprietress even waved us down to make sure we enjoyed. This is Sunday morning at 8:00 am for the love of god. She is a true hustler. The burritos were amazing, lemonade to die for, and fresh homemade salsa! This coming from a Texan who has scarfed his fair share of burritos/tacos/salsa. She also packs heat and a knife in case highway people (its 2018) show up. In summary--this place embodies everything that truly makes America great, before any new age slogans muddied the waters and cheapened the phrase. If you're within 100 miles stop here, do yourself and America a favor. read more

Awesome little place on the road. Both locals and tourists visit this little Gem mostly Tex Mex Style food served fast and hot. Lots of circuses a original Carnival Bell to try and ring if you dare and photo props. A Well shaded eating area and of course your host and armed guard Amy. STOP AND SAY HELLO SOME TIME. read more

This is nice little food truck type establishment. It has eight different kinds of burritos. You are able to ask for extra toppings or fewer toppings. Bring cash. It's a cash only place. We rolled in hungry as all get out after riding in from Amarillo and forgetting the time change. Luckily the owner cornered the market with a 10 AM start. This is an impressive one woman show. Fresh ingredients, friendly as all get it, and tasty food. We loved the uniburrito, flauta, and the frito pie. She said it was the best lemonade in the county and I would agree. The Banquet is a Cimarron establishment, and it is soon closing. It was my first food truck! She offers award winning salsa with chips on every order, and the lemonade, tortillas, chili, et al, are all prepared right there. Yes, sometimes I wish the burrito was bigger, but I was eating these long before I'd even heard of Chipotle. 2013 marks the 29th year of the Burrito Banquet being business, and the owner has told me directly that 30 years is long enough. I really hope she does a t-shirt or something to commemorate its heritage. read more

There's a couple of parking spots right next to the truck and plenty of street parking, and a couple of tables if you want to eat there.

Today was my last time at McDonalds in Raton. I then went next door to Arby's for their sourdough breakfast sandwich, which are very good by the way.

Our drip coffee was really good. I ended up buying a bag of beans to take home. And their breakfast egg sausage biscuit was amazing. The only thing it lacked was some Tabasco. I felt like I bugged them with all my silly requests so I didn't ask so they may have had some. But man, that biscuit. Oh So good!! And I must mention the splendid service because the young workers were so authentically friendly. What a wonderful stop.

Oh my gosh!! Burrito Banquet is the most unusual eating establishment we have ever experienced. After driving many miles in the beautiful wide-open country of New Mexico, coming upon Cimarron (where the plains meet the mountains) and the Burrito Banquet is like approaching a luscious oasis in the desert. When arriving and meeting Kathleen, the owner, we were completely blown away by her beautiful smile, bubbly personality and genuine kindness!! But wait, that is not even the best part - the food, that she personally prepares fresh every day before daybreak, is to dream about!! Her burritos, tacos, flauta, tostada, chili, fresh toasty tortillas with chips and salsa, etc. are simply delicious. Her homemade lemonade surely meets her claims that it is "the best in the county"!! (She has an old carnival styled "high striker ball and hammer" - you can swing the hammer onto a launch pad to ring bell. Ringing bell one time wins a free lemonade). There are also so many photo opportunities - a giant sized photo booth designed like the Burrito Banquet food truck, giant statues of Big Bear and Bigfoot. We will always go to the Burrito Banquet again and again whenever we are anywhere near Cimarron!! read more

Just saw this cute little food truck stand on the side of the road and decided to stop. The food is great , especially for lunch. The owner is very kind and gave us a taste of the green chili, which we all loved. Our two youngest had "The Plain", bean and cheese burritos. Oldest son and husband had "The Basic" with beans, cheese, and green chili. I had the green chili bowl with chips. All so yummy! Three of us "rang the bell" for a free lemonade! Fun stop! read more

Kathleen is the owner and proprietor, and she is a friendly person with a great attitude. We stopped on our way out of Cimarron and had breakfast burritos that were absolutely delicious! We all agreed it was one of the best breakfast burrito's ever! Kathleen makes everything herself with fresh ingredients and serves it with a smile. The green chili lemonade is a must try. Oh, the totale burrito is awesome!! Hatch Green Chiles are plentiful here, and you want to exercise the green Chile option for the burrito! The waitress who happens to open carry a .45 revolver is a nice touch, too! (This is rural New Mexico, and snakes are a real concern, so a short .410 shell is handy for dealing with them. ) Regardless of being on the trail, this is really good New Mexican chow. read more

We stopped by on our way home after we saw the owner waving a sign on the road. She was incredibly kind and had an awesome outlook on life. The breakfast burritos were the best we've ever had, and when she says she has the best lemonade in the county (or whole state) she's not lying! I visited for Philmont and stopped there for lunch. It surprised me how cheap and inviting it was but the quality of the food and service was incomparable to anywhere els. Kathleen was the friendliest face and was super inviting to our whole trek. If you are in Cimarron this is the place to be. read more

Incredibly friendly service and amazing food. The food was cheap but the best burrito I've had in months. We came with a group of about 12 people and the service was quick. Quite a few of the people in our group ordered a second round of burritos before leaving, the food was delicious! read more

Took our Grounds Crew of 11 people here and had a great time as always. The food and lemonade were excellent, the games and outdoor dining are always entertaining and Kathleen made sure that we had plenty of fruit and cookies. Couldn't ask for a better host. read more
