Consistent great Tex Mex at fair price served with a smile. You can't go wrong here, Yum yum yum yum yum l have to get to 85 words which is crazy read more

Great Tex-Mex! I had a chicken enchilada and a beef enchilada. They were served piping hot. I had the Texas topping on the beef enchilada (basically chili con carne) yum! Which leads me to my one complaint I didn't want a beef sauce on my sour cream chicken enchilada, but don't like red or green chili sauces. That left queso topping which for 1 enchilada still cost an extra $1.50. Seems like for one chicken enchilada they should offer that for free or have a sour cream sauce. Our wait staff was good, but not very knowledgeable about the food. We asked if they came with refried beans or charro beans. She was clueless about what we meant! From her definition we figured charro, but in reality they were refried- tasty refried beans, but not charro!! Would we go back? Yes!! read more

Sundance Mexican Restaurant - Enchiladas, beans, and rice. - Mexican Near Me - Red River, New Mexico

Ambiance: The restaurant is a casual sit-down eatery located in downtown in the town of Red River. We had a party of 8 and this restaurant accommodated us comfortably. Service: Our server was spunky, sassy, and wonderful! She was so cheery, and checked in on us often. Giving an extra star here just for her! Food: I appreciated the complimentary chips and salsa. The salsa tasted yummy, and the chips were warm. My husband and I ordered the chicken + beef fajitas to share since I wasn't hungry. The order came with about 8 warm corn tortillas, shredded cheese, shredded lettuce, guac, and a sizzling skillet full of rice, beans, green and red bell peppers, and chicken and beef. This was plenty of food for the both of us. My husband was starving, and even between the 2 of us, we had leftovers! The fajitas were okay. I wasn't impressed by the place. Overall, we were impressed with the service, and dining experience. The food was alright. read more

The food here actually came out very pleasant. Our server was really great on top of that! The chips and salsa were a really good table snack to have, very well seasoned. The margaritas were good enough we had 2 pitchers. I ended up splitting the fajitas and it was still a lot of food. There was no need to get extra tortillas and toppings. The taco soup was also a really nice add. You can't go wrong with this place if you are feeling Mexican. read more

The first thing I judge a Mexican (or Tex-Mex) spot is salsa. The salsa here was surprisingly really good! It tasted fresh, no funny aftertaste, and a nice, not overwhelming, amount of heat. A little too tomato-forward, in my opinion, but nonetheless solid. The chips tasted fresh too! We got some margaritas: I got strawberry, and the rest of the party got 2 pitchers of classic. Our server poured it for us table-side (unlike another red place in the same block ). The food came out fresh, hot, nicely seasoned. We had taco soup, which reminded me a chili a little bit, and a beef fajita plate for two to share. We got two settings for it which turned out to be an overkill. The only note I have about it is that I would recommend tortillas to be cooked up before serving. They were warm, but more like microwave warm. We didn't get a desert, although were recommended one by a table next to us. But we were too stuffed. Our server was lovely. She was super attentive, had a nice conversation with us, and we never had to ask for anything, she paid a great attention to details. We had a large party of 8, and she did amazing! It wasn't too busy when we had our dinner, but we also were among the last tables of the night. read more

Sundance offers a nice relaxing atmosphere. The food is delicious, with a wide variety of cuisine to choose from. Our server Sarah, did an excellent job. The owner is very personable. Visits the tables of the customers. They take reservations so I'd recommend doing that because it is a very popular restaurant. read more

My wife and I dined at Sundance on July of this year and had a wonderful dining experience. Our waitress, Araceli, was very pleasant and helpful. On her recommendation I had the Rolled Chicken Dinner which included chips and salsa as well as Taco soup to start. Both were excellent, especially the delicious soup. The main course was a rolled chicken breast with a cheese enchilada. Again both were cooked to perfection. My wife had a chicken tostada which she found to be exceptional as well. We plan to make Sundance a regular eating establishment for us whenever we visit Red River! read more

There were lots of hummingbirds at feeders when we walked in the entrance, they were beautiful to watch. Food was very good, especially fresh sopapillas with honey butter. Our server was perfect, she checked in on us just the right amount. I was amazed with how busy it was that there was little wait time. Strawberry margarita was delicious. We were glad we chose this restaurant and I can't think of one thing that could be any better read more

This place was recommended to us by a friend. We loved it! We loved: the wine margarita, the queso, the chipotle grilled chicken, and the steak with green chile enchilada on side! Incredible. Tanya was our server and she was so personable. Highly recommend read more

Food was amazing, and service was great. We will be returning on all our future visits to Red River.

Ok Mexican option. It's more of a tradition for us to go and that's fun. They have art work that you can purchase hanging up. Good margaritas! read more

Food tasted like cafeteria food. ICKKK! Gave two stars only because the service was great.

Best ribeye in Red River, the loaded baked potatoes are fantastic, too. Their portions are good, staff is very friendly and ambiance is a fun family style atmosphere. read more

Service is the reason I'm giving two stars instead of one star. The food wasn't even mediocre. The red sauce tastes like Cambell's tomato soup with velveta cheese. Not impressed The food is too bland to be referred to as Mexican or Tex-Mex. More like Patio frozen dinners from a long time ago. read more

Service was great! Disappointed about the food. Not tex-mex or authentic Mexican. I think the cheese they use is velveeta. read more

Have been eating at Sundance since the 1990's and came back during our last trip to Red River. It was amazing as always. Great place for New Mexican food. It was delicious. I had the sour cream chicken enchiladas with green chilie sauce and it was so delicious. Ended our meal with the sopapillas and they did not disappoint. The service was top notch as well from the hostess to the waitress everything was great. Can't wait to come back and eat there again. read more

Service was great and good atmosphere. Food was okay nothing crazy. Would recommend if in town

Should have checked Yelp before ate here. Funny thing is when we got back to cabin and sat down to review. I found my review from last time ate here 3-4 yrs ago. Not much has changed. Salsa still bland as is the food. Chips were stale as were the corn tortillas. Very disappointed because I used to look forward to eating at Sundance when came to Red River. Service is still very good. Waitress was attentive and very nice. Was disturbed by a person that I know has been at Sundance many years reach bare handed into the bulk chip container where they get customers chips and grab 4 chips and dipped them in the salsa pot where they get the customers salsa and eat them one at a time. Kinda gross and don't think is supposed to happen. Don't plan on going back next or any trip to Red River. read more

Just not very good food or 'Rita's. Service was good food was just meh. The building is a series layout but there were plenty of tables. The fajitas was ok, we played it safe and got the combo steak and chicken. read more

Great food and service!! Always come by when in town and it is always good. Large number 1 is my go to plate! read more

Great experience, friendly staff! They were quick to fill our drinks and were keeping us in the loop.

The food was good and our server was great. We also enjoyed the fireplace. The restaurant's entrance is a little unusual, but it was a good dining experience. There were three severs sitting at a table and playing on their cell phones near the entrance during our entire meal; it was distracting/unusual since we were seated a few feet from them. read more

we didn't expect the food to be good. It was the only place that didn't have a long wait but it turned out to be the best food we had all week. chicken tenders and fries for kids was amazing.. the filet with taco soup was insanly good. chicken quesadilla was awesome. my daughter said she salmon was great but the rest of us loved our food. the salsa didn't have much flavor but queso was amazing.. super good and highly recommend read more

Service was good and food was pretty good. A lot of cheese on everything. Salsa was pretty lame and needed to be spicier and salt added . I guess I would come back. A level above Taco Bell. read more

The stuffed Sopaipilla is amazing. Can't find anything like it anywhere, trust me, I've tried...

Sundance Mexican Restaurant - Mexican Near Me - Red River, New Mexico

The chili rellanos were good! The salsa was not chilled and was not flavorful at all! There is potential but need some spice. 9/10 on the Salmon though! Was not expecting that at all Mexican restaurant! read more

My wife and I went their yesterday for Dinner at 5:00pm. We both ordered a chilli rellenos and cheese enchiladas. The rellenos where tough. I think they didn't peal the skins off and nothing inside, rice and beers. Just okay nothing special. Salsa for the chips was horrible, watery and tasted like old catchup. Service was excellent. Ambiance was a plus. read more

The salsa served with chips is warm (temperature is warm)...1st time I had this, and it is good, medium spicy. The guac salad is great...I love the flavor of the combination of lettuce, guac and tomatoes. They offer three different combo dinners, I had one of them and it was delicious. Oh, and the sopapilla...not greasy and served with honey butter, probably the best I have had. Indoor wood fireplace was going...great ambiance. read more

Oh geez. I don't usually do this but I feel obligated. Here goes. First off the waitress was attentive and very friendly. The one star is for her and her alone. This was the worst Mexican food I've ever had in my entire life. I'm not speaking in hyperbole. The worst. We will go through the entire meal. First, the chips and salsa. The chips were bland(this word rules the review), and the salsa made Pace extra mild seem like some edgy gourmet stuff. So bad. Not fresh either. Old, jarred nonsense. Couldn't eat. Drinks. We ordered a pitcher of sangria. The best I can compare it to is a boxed wine that may have sniffed an orange slice on the way to the table. The steak fajitas. Meat was cooked well, but completely unseasoned. No seasoning. At all. The tortillas were fresh and warm. The onions were barely cooked, and again unseasoned. The rice and beans, again, unseasoned. So bland. The pork tenderloin was butterflied for some reason. Extremely overcooked and dry. Again, unseasoned. The honey chipotle sauce was something you'd get in a generic gift basket from an acquaintance or business relationship. The carne adovada burrito was no better. The "red chile" sauce was a bland generic red sauce you'd find in a can at the grocery store. The meat, you guessed it, unseasoned and flavorless. Our waitress could tell something was up but we played it off, as she did her best and it wasn't her fault. We know restaurants are struggling these days, so we didn't want her comping anything to reduce the bill. She made sure to give us our complimentary sopapillas to go, and you guessed it, no sugar or cinnamon had touched them. It was fried bread with smuckers honey packages. Again, this is not my style to write this up but it's absolutely inexcusable. There is no effort to create flavorful food at all. I just dropped $100 for a meal we ate a collective six bites of. No other Mexican restaurants in town, so maybe venture out to another nearby city or just pass. read more

We ordered takeout while on vacation in Red River. They were on a 45min wait for indoor dining, but had our food packaged and ready to go in 20min. Not only was the meal tasty, the portions were huge and everything tasted fresh. While many Mexican restaurants skimp on the chips for to go orders, we walked away with a giant bag of FRESH HOT chips. The sopapillas were some of the best we'd ever had! The staff were friendly and appreciative of our business. Although it is off the main strip, this is one place you can't pass up. read more

Everything was perfect. Food, service, and atmosphere. It won't be long before we are back. Thank you!

The food is more than traditional Mexican. The servings are large and the prices are affordable. Remember to save room for the sopapillas, yum. Service is very accommodating. read more

Average food at best. The salsa is watery and mild in terms of heat is an understatement. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time. Then online menu states "served with complimentary Chips and salsa, Sopapilla and Honey. The sopapillas are now $1.99 each. When the server was questioned on this issue he could have cared less and didn't offer to check with management. We won't be going back. read more

Don't waste your time or your money! It wasn't that busy and we waited about 45 mins for our food. While we waited, we ordered some queso. It basically was velveeta, that at one point had been melted. It was pretty solid. We had to use forks to spread it on chips and tortillas we ordered. I had ordered a guacamole salad. It was 9.99 and it was maybe a handful of lettuce with three scoops of guacamole, which was not made in house as it had the bag guacamole dip consistency. I added some salsa in hopes to make it taste better. My youngest had nachos with meat. They were just chips with a little bit of browned hamburger meat and shredded cheese that had been melted in a microwave. The only positive was our waitress. She was very nice. read more

Sundance Mexican Restaurant - The bowl of guacamole salad. My hand is for reference. This small portion was $9.99 and not good. - Mexican Near Me - Red River, New Mexico

Ok so I have been wanting to try it even with some recommendations be others but it was sooo bad. Fajitas, enchiladas and quesadillas all with no flavor and so bland. Hot sauce was sweet and not hot at all. We can't wait to get back to Texas for some real Mexican food. read more

We stopped here while visiting NM and the Red River & Enchanted Circle area. The food was delicious and we had great service. Everything was gross. The beans looked and tasted like they were poured right out of a can. Chili sauce tasted like a paste made with chili powder and water. Everything was flavorless. Salsa was disgusting. I'm confused as to how this place is still open. read more

Worth the wait, remember this as you wait a little longer than usual for your meal. Good food takes time, these people actually make magic so be patient and bring your appetite! My grilled chicken tostada salad was so fresh, juicy chicken, all just so good. My dining companion's had green chili this and that, I tried bites and agree just outstanding...dinner was over and out comes the waitress with a complementary basket of fresh piping hot pillows called sopapillas, evidently they are known for these little devil's! There is a bottle of honey on every table and this is why, they serve them with melted butter then you drizzle honey and indulge, seriously this was sublime. The food and hospitality was awesome, we truly enjoyed our meal and wonderful experience. Sundance Mexican Restaurant is a special find in Red River read more
