We only went to Zayra's because The Depot was closed, and boy was that good luck. My Steak Tacos were delicious; even the rice and beans were unusually good. My wife's Chicken Quesadillas were also much enjoyed. If you're on the fence about whether to go here - just go!

Passing through and we were looking for a quick on the road breakfast. So glad this was on our route. Huge burritos! Very tasty & really quick. We got a sausage one & a ham. The red sauce was great...not too spicy and great smoke flavor. Green sauce was very mild.

1 egg breakfast, homemade tortilla, refried beans, and potatoes.

Thanks again Zayra's for warming our hearts on our trip from NM back to TX. Love stopping here for a fresh homemade breakfast.

What a great local place, and geez do all types of people show up once it's lunchtime. No worries, however, tbe front counter is ready. orders come out promptly; service is top notch. but tbe food--wow. they have specials worth a look and then a true mix of tex-mex favorites and American grill favorites. i tried the patty melt--fantastic--fresh generous serving, onions cooked right. My spouse raved about the milkshake too

Food, fantastic food extremely clean place friendly atmosphere. I had the brisket tacos. Lettuce and tomato garnish was very fresh and the bastard tasted great. The tortillas were slightly toasted, which made them a little bit crispy flavor. We ordered chicken strips and a plate pride tasty chicken breast. Portion for under $10. We would highly recommend this place. Any travel from Texas.

Stopped here based on YELP reviews and was not disappointed! People were picking up phone-in orders, sitting in the dining area for serve and walk-ups, like me, were standing in line to order. My husband had a chicken salad sandwich and I had a BLT. Both sandwiches were good and had 3 slices of bread (easier to eat on the road). Despite the wait for our food, which is I inevitable when a place is popular and not serving "fast food", I had no complaints. For travelers with dogs, there is an outdoor eating area so Fido can get some fresh air while you eat. By the way, lots of people ordered Mexican food and milkshakes. A nice stop on the road with good food = 5

Alfonso's Mexican Food - Excellent Chorizo Plate!

The menu is full of expected staples, as well as regional specialties you'd be hard-pressed to find outside the area. The staff seem happy to see you and serve you with care and pride. The icing on the cake (or, salsa on the burrito) is the small salsa bar to help spice your food to your liking with a variety of types. Texans making the road trip to and from Colorado (and anyone else going anywhere, I suppose!), you need to make it to Alfonso's.

The place is inside a gas station, but has an excellent variety of choices on their menu. Dining area is small, so best to ask for it "to go." I ordered the Chorizo Plate with flour tortillas ... or so I thought there'd be more than one. Actually it was one, BIG tortilla - more than enough to make some hand tacos with the chorizo. And what excellent chorizo it was! Flavorful and plenty of it. The beans and rice were equally tasty. For less than 12 bucks, this was a great plate of food. My only negative is service is s l o w ! There's one person taking orders from both the inside counter and the drive-thru. Likewise, there just one person preparing all the orders. BUT, if you don't mind the wait, it's worth it for great Mexican food.

The Skillet - Store bought black beans in a Dixie cup with Trader Joe's quality rice. $4 --the only edible thing here tonight in my $17 investment here.

We ordered a burrito, fries and drinks - a Manhattan for my wife and a chocolate martini with Kettle One and crème de cacao for me. My wife's drink was to her liking, but the chocolate martini tasted like there was coffee liqueur in it. Since I didn't know when our waitress would appear again, I told the first person we saw - a young man - that I couldn't drink anything with coffee because of the caffeine, and that I needed it remade. He took it back to redo. While we were waiting, one of the pool players dropped a very loud f-bomb when he missed a shot. Then a young child began crying very loudly. The young man came back with the remade drink, and the coffee taste was gone. After it had been over 45 minutes I had to ask what looked like the manager what had happened to our burrito and fries. She went back to check, and our food finally appeared. The burritos were long on rice and short on carne asada, something we couldn't know until we started eating. At some point our original waitress came back, and my wife told her we had to send back my first drink because of the coffee ingredient. She denied any coffee-containing spirit was used, and walked away. We never saw her again. I had to ask the manager for an itemized ticket, since the ones we had were sign for a total amount only, with no itemized detail. Since the original waitress had closed out our ticket right after we ordered and had given us our check, we paid and left. No tip was left. If you want a properly-mixed drink, be prepared to explicitly request every ingredient. Better still, don't expect great drinks or food at this place - stay away. There are lots of other choices in Las Vegas NM.
