Ted was very nice and provided the history of the courthouse and other landmarks in Llano. Explained the reason why certain rooms had vault doors. It was a fascinating conversation. There isn't much to say about a government-run facility so I will just lay out the basics. The…read moreguards were really nice and informative. They have a metal detector at the front but it is quite painless and fast! There is barely any parking around the building so it is better for you to find a parking garage or lot nearby and just walk there. The restrooms were clean and all the staff was really friendly. Unfortunately the judge called the jury bystanders in 55 minutes after the initial stated time listed in the hearing letter. That was a bummer ... but then the judge explained why we had to wait so that was nice. Lots of construction nearby so be ready to walk through some dirty/dusty/muddy streets.

Okay, seriously, am I the only person on the list of potential jurers? I have been called to jury duty seven times and served them all. This court has been the nicest of all the courts I have served on. Beautiful tiled entryway is in the waiting area. Stunning wood panel walls. The visitor's seats in court are the usual rock hard wood pews. So I guess I was glad I was picked so I could sit in the soft jury seats. The Procesutor, Judge and Bailiff were very pleasant to work with. Wow! They pay $10.00 per day instead of the usual 6 bucks. In conclusion, it is a nice place to visit but I wouldn't want to live there.

First off, if you are looking for the Police Dept, it is also located in this building. If you own a pet in Cedar Park, you gotta get CP tags at the police station. IT"S THE LAW!! and you gotta renew them with each rabies vaccine.....don't talk to ME about "the Man". He got me goin and comin. Being a model citizen (read: never been caught), I'd never been to court and this was definitely NOT what I'd expected. First you walk in and have to stand in line to sign in. Then you, and 20+ total strangers are all called in to air out your drama in public. At first, I was nervous about this ordeal...as time passed....and passed....nervous turned into boredom which turned into agitation...which eventually devolved into curiosity as I began to realize I was gonna be last called. Were they saving the best or the worst for last? Or was this pergatory some form of my punishment?? I learned a few things whilst waiting on my pew (very churchlike): 1. I learned how the judge metes out justice for traffic violations, juvenile delinquents, and minor assaulters (he was very fair and made me much more relaxed). 2. I learned that the guy who knows how the system works and can be helpful in directing you where to sign in, can be one of the assaulters. Be careful.... 3. I learned, again, why I don't have kids. There were a few bad eggs in there and I would hate to be they mommas. Actually, my "kids" are bad eggs too, apparently. Hmm. 4. I learned I can write an entire review in my head when I have nothing else to do but stare at wood panelling. I could tell you how many chairs were in the jury panel and describe in length the color scheme of the carpeting. But I don't want to bore you with details....I"ll just bore you with this review instead :) After you speak to the judge, you are directed to go back out of the courtroom and wait, again, to be called to settle your fines. What seemed an eternity in my brain, actually worked out to 2 hours flat, and as mentioned, I was the last one dealt with. This, btw, had nothing to do with when I signed in or alphabetical names. Nope it's all about your docket number...and nothing personal as I'd thought. I certainly wouldn't recommend coming here for grins, but if you are in trouble with the Po-Po, this is a relatively well-oiled machine and painless, except to your wallet. Btw, anybody want two sweet, hairy, drooly, goofy, neighborhood-roamin, no tag-havin, dogs?? I"ll only charge ya $250!

I took a day trip to La Grange to check out the bluebonnets (don't judge) and wanted to see what…read morethe city is all about. I checked out TripAdvisor to see what the top attractions in town are. Fayette County Courthouse was on the list. Located in downtown La Grange, the courthouse is surrounded by a nice square with lots of businesses, restaurants, and more close by. Like a lot of small towns, the county courthouse is one of the most picturesque parts of town. This one is no different. While the courthouse was closed and I couldn't go inside, it was still nice to check out from the outside from all angles and read a little bit about the history of the landmark.

Texans definitely know how to make magnificent courthouses and this is one of them. According to the marker, this is the county's fourth courthouse and was built during the peak of Central Texas cotton wealth. Named for Neil McLennan who was an early settler, the county's seat is Waco. The courthouse was completed in 1902 and is in the Beaux Arts Style by architect James Riely Gordon who designed 13 other Texas courthouses (including Ellis, which I've seen). Themis, the Greek goddess of divine order stands atop the dome, holding a double-edged sword that represents the law. Her left hand holds the usual scales to symbolize the weighing of facts by the courts. I was here on Sunday so I did not have the opportunity to tour the interior which is apparently quite ornate. Interesting fact: Clyde Barrow, of Bonnie and Clyde fame, stood trial here and was convicted. He managed to break out of the jail later. [Review 817 of 2024 - 572 in Texas - 21848 overall]
