It reads: (Sept. 22, 1856 - Jan. 27, 1939) A native of Germany, Frank Teich studied under master German artists and sculptors before coming to the United States in 1878. By 1883, he was established in San Antonio as an accomplished stonemason and artist. His supervision of work on the State Capitol led to other jobs, including construction of the Tarrant County Courthouse and the creation of numerous Confederate memorials and other monuments throughout the South. In 1901, he founded Teich Monument Works near Llano, which resulted in the development of the area's granite production industry. He is buried in the Llano Cemetery.

Send your tax payment in via registered mail, yes there is a small charge, but the wait to pay in person is SO LONG, for me over an hour. My time is worth the few dollars instead of waiting for an hour. I previously lived in Harris Co & they had a quick EXPRESS drop off for payments that had a check made out. HARRIS CO was a county of millions, yet the wait was so short through express there. Why so long here, especially since I didn't wait until the last minute.? Here, they need a mystery shopper to prompt them to expedite the process. It is disgustingly slow.

Peg and I were in Burnet for a return visit to the Vanishing Texas River Cruise's Ultimate Eagle Cruise (I'll add a review soon) and stopped to get gas (at $2.09 a gallon--a bargain!) and saw the lights about a block away. I'm a Christmas light junky even though I'm Jewish; Peg not so much but even these attracted her, so off we went. Robert M said just about all that can be said of the façade; nothing here to attract architecture buffs unless they like fairly nondescript square buildings. But we were there for the lights, so the building itself really didn't matter; it served as a backdrop and nothing more. If the building was dull and boring, the lighting display certainly was not. Thankfully, they didn't fall prey to the "more is better" theory of decorating with its gaudy overkill. There were plenty of lights to dazzle even jaded senses but just enough; their restraint was admirable. I'm adding some photos but apologize for lack of quality; the night was drizzly but you'll get the idea. Peg was an Interior Designer . . . yes, yes, I know this wasn't an interior space, I'm not completely dim; cut me some slack, will ya--but I digress . . . one whose delicate aesthetic sensibilities are easily offended. But she oooed and aaahed like a kid, and we ended up driving around the courthouse four times so she could take it all in. So well done, Burnet County Courthouse--we loved it!

There isn't much to say about a government-run facility so I will just lay out the basics. The…read moreguards were really nice and informative. They have a metal detector at the front but it is quite painless and fast! There is barely any parking around the building so it is better for you to find a parking garage or lot nearby and just walk there. The restrooms were clean and all the staff was really friendly. Unfortunately the judge called the jury bystanders in 55 minutes after the initial stated time listed in the hearing letter. That was a bummer ... but then the judge explained why we had to wait so that was nice. Lots of construction nearby so be ready to walk through some dirty/dusty/muddy streets.

Quaint shops, pubs, restaurants, and of course bbq joints! Beautiful state park and Chisholm trail. Caldwell County Courthouse boasts extraordinary architectural elements. Just about 30-40 minutes from Austin, it makes for a perfect day trip or overnighter. Easily walkable. Friendly folks. Perfectly charming old west town.

I didn't go inside, but I was just as impressed with the grounds and historical markers. Don't pass up an opportunity to checkout the City of Lockhart.
