There's a few state parks in this county in the Texas Hill Country, a place of rolling hills, oak trees, springs, lakes and rivers. There's so many outdoorsy things to do in this historic county. Be sure to check out the Main Square in Blanco, where the courthouse is! It's pronounced, "Blank-Oh." Us Texans seem to butcher the Spanish language.

Lastly, be very mindful that the security Staff have a Mount Everest size Chip on their Shoulders, apparently making Eye Contact Warrants a Strip Search for Jury Duty. I'm all for doing my "Civic Duty" but when you are Talked down to like You are a Child, at that point I question My Civic Duty. I'm still trying to Wrap My Mind around how a Belt is deemed a threat.

Send your tax payment in via registered mail, yes there is a small charge, but the wait to pay in person is SO LONG, for me over an hour. My time is worth the few dollars instead of waiting for an hour. I previously lived in Harris Co & they had a quick EXPRESS drop off for payments that had a check made out. HARRIS CO was a county of millions, yet the wait was so short through express there. Why so long here, especially since I didn't wait until the last minute.? Here, they need a mystery shopper to prompt them to expedite the process. It is disgustingly slow.

Quaint shops, pubs, restaurants, and of course bbq joints! Beautiful state park and Chisholm trail. Caldwell County Courthouse boasts extraordinary architectural elements. Just about 30-40 minutes from Austin, it makes for a perfect day trip or overnighter. Easily walkable. Friendly folks. Perfectly charming old west town.

There isn't much to say about a government-run facility so I will just lay out the basics. The…read moreguards were really nice and informative. They have a metal detector at the front but it is quite painless and fast! There is barely any parking around the building so it is better for you to find a parking garage or lot nearby and just walk there. The restrooms were clean and all the staff was really friendly. Unfortunately the judge called the jury bystanders in 55 minutes after the initial stated time listed in the hearing letter. That was a bummer ... but then the judge explained why we had to wait so that was nice. Lots of construction nearby so be ready to walk through some dirty/dusty/muddy streets.

* A pleasant easy historical hike *…read more The feature of the hike is Sam and Eliza Johnson's old home. They were LBJ's grandparents. Don't confuse this spot with the LBJ ranch about 14 miles away. This is a very flat pleasant 1 mile hike through open pasture that has some longhorns, horses, a barn, the old cabin, etc. Things are preserved as part of the national park system, and there are a few information signs to let you know the history of the spot. Perhaps the most amusing thing to me was the sign warning, "Longhorns are dangerous" or something such as that. Now you might say, "What is so damn amusing about that?"
