Tea Leaf Salad
Shareen C.

We went for Saturday night dinner at around 6:30pm and there wasn't any wait. The service was amazing. The waiter always checked in with us throughout the meal and answered all of our questions. The inside was clean and a bit dim. The food was amazing. I highly recommend the Tea Leaf salad and the Lotus Chips! Those two dishes were super delicious.

The food is AMAZINg here. Try everything and it is meant to be shared. The beef curry was my favorite along with coconut juice. Service is great and you can always ask them to give you recs depending on your party size and dietary preferences. The place is very big and fits a lot of people so it's a great place for social gatherings.

Tea Leaf Salad, Palata

You can never go wrong with tea leaf salad! The palata was buttery and delicious with curry on the side. The garlic noodles were tasty and had a sweet chili sauce. The cucumbers cut through the oil with freshness. I was disappointed with the nan gyi dok because the sauce was too watery, making it hard for it to stick to the noodles. The noodles were very bouncy as always though.

Tried this place from walking by was we were not disappointed. The food was absolutely delicious and full of flavor. The Tea Leaf Salad was better than Burma Superstar and their salad is great. Just liked this one better, not as tart and the crunchy things don't break your teeth.

Yummy, fast and accommodating service. They weren't super busy when we came in around lunch time, and food came within 10 minutes for to go orders. The rest of our group was seated, the restaurant is lovely and bright. I ordered the Nan Gyi Dok. It has crunchy and soft textures-- chips and noodles and soft chicken. Very interesting.

My friends and I got family style meal and were pretty satisfied! Our favorite thing on the menu is definitely the mango white fish. The coconut rice was soo good as well. We also got the tea leaf salad which is a classic if youre eating burmese. Its served on a plate while other places serve it in a bowl with the ingredients separated. It probably tastes the same but i think presentation matters a lot. We also got mango tofu which was a miss. The type of tofu used didnt go well with the dish - it was hard and rubbery.

My picture was of us after we already dove in, we couldn't help ourselves! also not pictured was the Tea Salad which was delicious! Definitely recommend, our server was phenomenal and even brought my boyfriend out a scoop of ice cream with a crazy flamer/candle on top! It was so sweet and he was so fun and knowledgeable. Recommend if you're in Palo Alto! As a note, we went there during Memorial Day weekend and the road was still closed for dining which made it super spacious and my mom - who hasn't eaten out since the pandemic started - felt very comfortable eating here.

I never thought I would give one star to this restaurant but the chicken curry was so bad, watery, hardly any lentils and those were not cooked. Awful.

The eggplant we got was also insanely flavorful and well-seasoned, and I would get this again in a heartbeat. The minty jalapeno chicken made me want to try to recreate this dish at home. I love anything with mint in it, and I love anything with jalapenos in it. Put them together, and it's a combo made in heaven. The spring rolls were also very good, but pretty standard, so it's not a must-try, but they're great if you're craving something deep fried and crispy. Omg, the coconut rice. I'd never really had coconut rice like this before despite growing up around Asian food, and I've had dreams about eating this again. We doordashed everything for our most recent meal and even though quality can sometimes suffer when you're having something delivered (or even when you're getting takeout), every dish was so incredible. If you were expecting only 3 shrimp and all eggplant then maybe you will like more. The Burma house noodles were too sweet and funky for my family and my taste, not savory enough or nutty enough (it did reheat better the next day and somehow tasted a bit better). Tea leaf salad was decent, nothing wow about it, probably from a decent quality salad kit if I had to guess. Especially considering how quickly the two we ordered came out. There are a few Burmese restaurants in SF and Berkeley I compare this place to which is why I give it a solid 3.

Though it was Saturday noon, we found free covered parking at Menlo Center Plaza off Santa Cruz Avenue. True to online postings, this restaurant had vibrant & faux flowery decor. Our large group of 8 was seated in the main dining hall with another large group. The menus of specials and cocktails with colorful F&D photos reminded me of touristy European restaurants. I had the hot Japanese sencha while my wife got the Thai Iced tea served with a crushed iced ball on top. Roti Mataba, Crispy Egg Rolls, Farmhouse Wings and Crispy Calamari were our starters for this gang of eclectic diners. I shared with my wife the Panang Neua (braised beef in curry sauce) and Pad See You which came gorgeously plated with generous servings. We were able to sample the Crab Fried Rice and Tom Kha from our dinnermates. Ruk Na (love you) Platter was the underwhelming dessert combo of Thai Vacation, Sticky Rice (no mango), Chocolate Cake with fresh fruits and a macaron. To be described as IG worthy in the menu wasn't accurate IMO. It must've been an off-day in the kitchen when they were prepping this "leave the choice up to us" plate of sweets. Food was way flavorful than regular Thai restaurants we've been to. The common complaint is the very pricy food. The staff was nice though. They even acknowledged our request for photos. Even with the setbacks, this was a nice lunch with this group.

Our family is Singaporean, and anyone who knows Singaporeans knows that food is practically religion. We are passionate foodies, and Shiok has been our family's go-to spot for authentic Singaporean food for more than a decade. This is a beloved family-run restaurant, and you can feel that warmth in both the food and the service. As you're savoring a bowl of laksa, a plate of chicken rice, or a roti prata starter, it's common for a family member to stop by, say hi, and see how you're doing. That personal touch is part of what makes Shiok so special. A couple of years ago, we were heartbroken when Shiok lost its longtime Menlo Park location after the building was sold. They managed to continue operating through a ghost kitchen in Redwood City, and we were so grateful to still be able to order our favorite dishes. Now that they have relocated back to Menlo Park, we could not be happier. If you love Asian food -- especially Singaporean food -- you have to try Shiok. Our family favorites include the laksa, Hainanese chicken rice, roti prata, char kway teow, sayur lodeh, beef rendang, chicken satay, and tahu goreng. The family meal for 4 is also an incredible deal and a great way to try multiple dishes. Shiok is a true local treasure: authentic, delicious, welcoming, and family-run. We are so glad they are back in Menlo Park and hope many more people discover and support them.
