It's been a while since the last time we've come to Burma Superstar, but we saw the restaurant week…read moremenu and decided it was about time to come back! This time it was a $90 set with 2 drinks, 2 servings of rice of your choice, a trio of their salads, and 2 entrees - honestly a great deal and I think the waitstaff mentioned it's about a $150 value, which I completely believe. Our party of 4 arrived around 8:15, and waited about 15 minutes to get seated - definitely try to join the ahead of time because they saved us! It's cozy, clean and well decorated inside, and though the tables are a little close you have plenty of space and it's not too loud for conversations. We got two sets of the $90 menu - which was probably a mistake since we were stuffed and had plenty of leftovers. Drinks: we got 4 different drinks - the mango Lassi, spiced sunset, nanda breeze and burma cooler. All of these were excellent, refreshing and great for balancing the strong flavors of the entrees! Rice: we always get the coconut rice, so this time we opted for 2 scoops of coconut rice and 2 scoops of the burmese fried rice - the fried rice was tasty but not as fragrant as the coconut rice so we'll probably stick to that in the future Salad trio: this included the iconic tea leaf salad, along with the pea shoot salad, and superstar noodle salad. The pea shoot salad was a surprising favorite, and I'd even consider getting that over the tea leaf salad in the future! The noodle salad was pretty filling but tasty - maybe good if you're not planning to get a bunch of entrees On to the entrees: these are all super flavorful, umami, and can get a little heavy if you don't balance it out with the rice and salads. We got the pazun kyaw (chili prawns), nga phel hin (a sort of fish patty in tomato curry sauce with fresh cucumber slices), chili lamb, and basil chili pork belly. The chili lamb was a standout - super tender, flavorful and our overall favorite. The basil chili pork belly is a close second, but a bit oilier and heavier. The nga phel hin was tasty but a little too heavy /salty - slightly helped by the cucumber but there were only 4 slices with the dish. The chili prawns had great flavor but unfortunately were a little overcooked. Overall, this was an excellent meal! Burma Superstar never fails to be a great place for a large, flavorful family style dinner. I'm glad we got to try multiple new things from the menu through the restaurant week offer, and I'll be able to switch up my typical order in the future based on what we tried this time!

The service here is night and day compared to Burma superstar. The service here is exponentially better, the staff is super friendly, incredibly attentive, and they make everyone feel very welcomed. The food on the other hand just is not great. Yes this place is always packed apparently, and it may be out of convenience. I found that everything that we ordered with the exception of the coconut rice fell flat. This is one of those moments that hurt your heart because I want to give them huge accolades, but it's just not there. We ordered the platha. It was tasty, but it also did not taste super fresh. The dipping sauce that it comes with (opted for chicken) and kept digging around the small bowl to find pieces of chicken that were nonexistent. The up charge of a dollar for the chicken dipping sauce that did not have chicken in it super disappointing. The sauce was tasty, but definitely not worth the up charge. Our server encouraged us to get the tea salad, which is definitely something. Someone should try if you've never had it before. The mixture of fresh veggies, the light sauce and the herbs, make for a very fresh bite. I would've been thrilled if late shredded chicken could be added to this for a different style dish. It would be super tasty. The salad was good, but not my style, but everyone else enjoyed it. We ordered the beef curry and the coconut rice. I absolutely want to emphasize how incredible the staff is. Their service and attentiveness absolutely should be acknowledged over and over again. The coconut rice at this location is exponentially better than at the other restaurant that we tried. This was a combination of light, fluffy, and absolutely flavorful delicious rice. The beef curry was incredibly disappointing. The beef was well done not done well. It was tough, overly chewy, and the flavor profile was just not good. It was missing something and even the light curry broth that the meat was sitting in well, good wasn't fantastic. The drinks seem pricier here, and the mango lassie, while good, was just OK. It tasted more like watered down mango. For dessert, we tried the black rice. This is definitely worth trying. It's a heavier dessert and probably a bit much after what felt like an uncomfortable dinner. The coconut sauce that it's sitting in is delicious and I can see why so many people enjoy it, and maybe if the strawberries were tastier the combination of all of the flavors may have made a difference. I definitely think it's something worth trying, but maybe elsewhere, or with different items for dinner.

We had reservations for a Sunday evening and when we arrived the place was packed. All tables are super tight, so if you intend to have a private convo... don't... Service was inconsistent and I feel like our server was either new or just off his game. We started with the traditional tea leaf salad. Rather unimpressed as there just wasn't much flavor and no heat at all. Next was the standout Hen of the Woods dish.... excellently prepared and outstanding. Mains were the lemongrass steak, and the spicy noodles with shrimp. Both of these were very good and well prepared. The steak was tender and flavorful, and the noodles were cooked just right. Not gummy and not tough... very enjoyable.

Looking for something quieter, we came across Burmese Kitchen, and I'm so glad we did. We ordered the chicken masala, which was packed with flavor and came in a really generous portion. The biryani rice was also delicious and paired perfectly with everything. I also tried the coconut chicken soup, which was rich, comforting, and full of great flavor. But the standout for me was the signature vegetarian tea leaf salad. It's not your typical leafy green salad--it's unique, flavorful, and honestly one of the most interesting dishes I've tried. I would definitely go back just for that. We also had a great experience with Yumi, the owner's niece, who was incredibly polite and helpful, especially since it was our first time trying Burmese food. If you're in the area and looking for something flavorful and different, I'd definitely recommend stopping by.

The roti had a crispy and chewy texture all in one. Curry was mild and sweet. 4.5/5 MIE GORENG JAWA ~ Java-style fried noodles with chicken and sweet soy sauce. Flavorful and delicious! They make their own sambal too! 5/5 LAKSA ~ rice noodles with shrimp in a coconut-based soup. The broth was soothing and mild. I think if it were spicy and tangy, this dish would shine. However, if you like mild flavors, this one might be for you. Noodles and shrimp were perfectly cooked. 4/5 PEPES SALMON ~ baked salmon fillet, seasoned with mild chili and lemongrass, wrapped in banana leaves. This one came highly recommended by Ming. He wasn't wrong! The salmon was so tender that it melts in your mouth. It was excellent and tasty!!
