I found Smack on Yelp when my friend Marita was a patient at nearby Vanderbilt University Medical…read moreCenter and wanted something comfy to wear. I live in the Dallas area, and she didn't have friends or family nearby who could bring her clothes, so I was trying to find something I could have a courier pick up and deliver. I talked to Rob, who wasn't actually in Nashville that day, but did a mental review of the store and said that he didn't really think he had what I was looking for. He was really nice and said when he was back in town he'd be happy to help if I still needed it. I thought that was a lovely gesture, but moved on to a quicker solution and dismissed it. So naturally, I was surprised to get a call from Rob a few days later, asking how my friend was doing and offering to go to another store, get something comfy and take it to her at the hospital. Now how nice is that? Amazing! You really have to patronize this store just because he's such a nice person! Naturally, when I arrived in Nashville a week or so later, I made a point of going by to thank Rob personally for his concern. And it was then I fell in love with his store! It's fun and full of the almost theatrical vintage I love, with a distinct country western flair. Lots of fringe, sequins, boots, belts and bolo ties, some from decades you may not remember! The day I was there, Rob had a Nudie suit that had been owned by Merle Haggard. If I lived in the Nashville area I would be a regular - and apparently a lot of local musicians and artists are too. If you want something unique, kitschy or dramatic (that you definitely won't find at TJ Maxx!), this is the place to come. And as a bonus, you get to buy it from a genuinely nice guy!

They have a diverse collection that spans through the past 3-4 decades, you'll get a kick out of it just walking through and picturing yourself in a movie montage. They have tons of stuff from the 80's & 90's, there is no chance anyone that walks in here can't find something they like! The prices are so reasonable you'd almost call it a thrift shop!

Very cool vintage clothing shop. Ever since Julian,…read more California when I bought some pieces of jewelry, my interest was peaked to come here cuz we had 30 minutes til we could check into our lodging. Tonight Doc got us reservations for a Speakeasy Mystery Crawl in Nashville. The COLD night air confirmed I better buy a black coat to match the new black dress since they have a dress code. Thankfully I found a bedazzled light weight black coat for $30, bling earrings and a ring to get into the mood for this evening's 7:30 pm event. This shop did not have that musty smell like Goodwill or Savers. We'd shop for music or Big Sky bears ages ago but not clothes. I think watching Twilight Zone in my school age years gave me the Willie's of wearing someone else's clothes. Hub's aunty even told them she had nightmares with her own mom's clothes when she passed. Hopefully the one sage bundle i saw in the shop will be cleansing enough with my purchases. Hubs stayed in the car with Grandpup and Doc decided to go next door and treated us to coffee. Thanks Doc for driving again today and the afternoon caffeine.

Prices matched the value of the clothing in my opinion. There was plenty of parking. The store is in an area where you can shop around a little.

Because of the name, I guessed the Idea Hatchery was a shared workspace or a writing collective. It *only* took me [redacted] years to get out of my car and walk in to see what's what. Flanked by an antiques shop and an art gallery (if you've done Tomato Arts Fest you know right where this is), the collective's appearance is a bit nondescript but that makes the discovery all the better, no? Inside the threshold are eight uniquely (east) Nashville businesses. As an incubator, the Hatchery is a perfect spot to test out concepts and gain sea legs before opting for a bigger location or an expanded footprint. It's a great go-between from online/out of the house to stand alone brick and mortar. I believe this is the spiritual parent to the Shoppes on Fatherland. Right now the current occupants tend to skew a bit 'female' in what they do (fashion, art, etc.) but that's not to say that there isn't a lot for a number of demographics to choose from. Selfishly, I'm hoping that some sort of food/treat business takes up residence in the shops. Toffee? Taffy? Shaved Ice? I can keep going folks. Actually, an old-timey, regional candy store would fit in well. Boom. I just found your newest tenant. Sort of. East End has a lot of fun businesses to explore. Next time you're in the neighborhood, scoot just a bit past that (locally) famous intersection and get a taste of what the area has to offer. I think you'll enjoy what you find. At the very least, it's a nice way to pass the time on a lazy weekend day.
