The cook and I assume owner, did chime in a said that she could get our order out to us in about 15 minutes after we said it would be difficult for us to wait due to the long drive we had home. Food did come out in about 20 minutes. As for taste, it was ok. Burgers patties were very small, much smaller than the bun they came on which left the resulting taste very dry. Definitely not anything special or worth the $66 (including 20% tip) that we paid. Hammondsport is an active summer tourist spot, so perhaps the price is reflected. But, I certainly don't feel the taste and experience justified the cost. One more strange occurrence, I didn't see a single garbage can anywhere inside or outside. We took out trash with us and put it in a public refuse container.

Hungry, frustrated, and starting to question my life choices, I got back on the road. A few minutes later I stumbled onto Mike's Mr. Subs in Dryden. What a find. Easy parking. No line. Friendly service. The place sits at a quaint little intersection in a town that looks like it belongs on a postcard. I ordered the chicken cheddar bacon wrap. Absolutely ridiculous. Now, I was starving, so I did consider the possibility that I would've eaten a seat cushion and called it delicious. But this thing was genuinely incredible. Loaded with chicken, bacon, cheddar, and somehow exactly what I needed after my failed Ithaca adventure. The whole experience felt like one of those road trip discoveries you remember years later. I have been eating eggs, I have been eating cheese and I have been eating bagels for over half a century. This is the best I have ever had. The owner said it is the farm fresh eggs. Even the cheese was better than I have ever had and it was Swiss. The bagel also tasted fresh and not store bought like you normally get in an airport. He said he has a Mobil credit card reader, so even if you are in the gate area past Security he will bring you an order. You can order by phone or on line. Just really great food and service.

However, be warned that they are located outside of security. This means you can't get through security and then relax and enjoy your meal. You have to eat before you go through security and that can sometimes be a bit stressful if you cut it close. Still this food is a far better value than you will get at pretty much any other airport, so make sure to eat here before your flight. You will thank yourself later when you aren't forced to eat the gross, overpriced, food court style offerings at your connecting airport. Note if they weren't located in an airport, I'd give them one less star. They get a sympathy star because airport food is always so bad.
