Typically I end up with a sad burger salad-y thing. It's usually nbd though because I'm just happy to have something to eat. Well let me tell you -- Culver's is changing the game here! They have an extremely thorough and easy-to-navigate website when it comes to allergies and preferences. In about 2 minutes I was able to easily identify what I could eat and what I couldn't. The "could" list was much longer than I expected! But then something huge happened. It was like a light shined down from above and the angels sang: there was a gluten-free bun on the menu! I thought -- surely this can't be true. It must be for bigger cities or test markets... NO! They, indeed, did offer a gf bun! And it was a darn good one at that! It was soft but sturdy enough to hold together my delicious cheeseburger. In addition to that burger, I (obviously) ordered some custard too. Yum yum yum! Such a win. As if my gf fast food heaven weren't enough, the people at Culver's are incredible. So helpful. So kind. Truly awesome customer service. I may be late to the Culver's game, but that doesn't make my love any less real. I'm super thankful to them for letting me experience a simple joy -- such as grabbing some fast food on a road trip -- like a regular person.

Chipotle used to feel like decent food at a reasonable price. Now somehow we are paying considerably more for the privilege of eating in a restaurant that regularly looks like nobody has cleaned it since the lunch rush three days ago. The dining room is dirty. The tables are dirty. The floors are gross. The drink station looks neglected. The food line is usually a disaster. Half the ingredients are scattered everywhere, trash is overflowing, and the entire place gives off the vibe that corporate has decided cleanliness and customer experience are optional. And before somebody says, "They're understaffed," that is exactly the point. This is not some tiny independent restaurant struggling to survive. This is Chipotle. If the stores are consistently understaffed, poorly maintained, and overwhelmed, that is a management problem. The part that makes it worse is Chipotle is not really cheap anymore. A meal can easily creep well into fast casual restaurant pricing, yet the experience increasingly feels like the lowest bidder was handed the keys and told, "Good luck." At what point did we as customers just accept this? Higher prices. Smaller portions depending on who is holding the spoon. Dirty restaurants. Long waits. Missing ingredients. Employees who often look completely defeated. I genuinely wonder whether Chipotle corporate actually gives a damn what many of these restaurants look like anymore, because from the customer side, it sure doesn't feel like it.
