Dan the owner, Julio the Manager and sweet Esther the cook are like family to my mother and I. In 2018, my mom had 3 back-to-back strokes and everyone was telling me she was going to die. I needed funds immediately to keep up the mortgage payments on her house, pay medical bills, etc. etc. I made a flyer for the GoFundMe page I made for her. Dan didn't hesitate to let me hang it right on their front glass door so anyone coming in would see. Dan donated on the spot (despite going through his own serious health battles) and then the staff came together to donate a little extra. All I have in this world is my mom and my animals. She is the love of my life and for 8 months she was in the hospital with tubes and IVs sticking out of her. It was terrible. When I'd come home to shower, I would call in my order and pick it up the way I always do and they would always ask about my mom. Sometimes they would see how bad I'd been crying or how exhausted I was and they wouldn't accept my money for the food. These people were the family I never had in my time of need. They all love my mom and that fact alone makes me love them. My mom is alive but she remains brain damaged and paralyzed and I take care of her all by myself. We can't afford to eat at their restaurant like we used to because of my mom's expensive daily care, but every 8 months or so I save up to buy our favorite dishes from them. We rather eat there than any other restaurant in the city because these people are the best of the best when it comes to humanity. The amazing food is just a bonus. If you're looking to support a local business and get some AWESOME food while you're at it, this is the place to do it. Rather, this review is about the experience my husband and I had there today when we went inside to eat our food. We had ordered, paid, and just sat down when a woman came in through the door after just burning weird incense or something, which I believe also had caught her jacket on fire. She was standing outside the doors closest to the register and had a ton of smoke coming off of her/around her. Not kidding, it looked like a small fire. Not a vape, or a cigarette, like a literal small fire amount of smoke. She then walked past the registers, and brought a TERRIBLE burnt smell in with her, walked straight into the bathrooms carrying an umbrella, bags, etc, and after about 10 minutes exited the bathrooms. She began pointing her umbrella side to side, saying things that were hard to make sense of and then left. About 15 minutes later she came back inside and came and sat right behind me, my husband, and our infant. I immediately got up, went and told the staff, and asked for a manager just so this could get taken care of as there were other CHILDREN inside the Canes. She started yelling and talking to herself, and pulled out a big bottle of pills started taking them right there on a table that families are supposed to be eating at. My husband witnessed this as he was trying to box up our food to go. I don't know what happened, but I'm typing this review as I sit in the parking lot with the food that I ordered. And I haven't seen her exit yet. The manager was just standing there, tables away as we exited and we didn't actually see him go approach her. I'll update my review if this gets resolved in any way, but I don't feel like I was taken seriously on this matter. Rather that I was just trying to complain which wasn't my intention. It was for the safety of not only myself and my family, but the other people there. You cannot allow people to come and do drugs at a table where there are children just feet away. The customer service representative was extremely helpful and nice, and I do appreciate the concern that was expressed over the phone, I just still wish the entire experience wouldn't have occurred. It caused me to get upset at the table and not even want to continue eating before she came in the second time. What was supposed to be a relaxing lunch out with my husband turned out to be anything but. I also didn't appreciate the laughs and snickers behind the counter from most of the staff. So yes-- I got my money back from yesterday in the form of vouchers, and customer service is forwarding this to a different higher up team, but it honestly shouldn't have even had to get that far yesterday. Their food is great, don't get me wrong. I love cane's. The service is always friendly there at this location, and the chicken is cooked to where it's perfectly crispy. 10/10 on all of that. No complaints there. But I'm not sure I can go back to this location after that. My husband made a great point yesterday. She's just sitting there taking a handful of pills at that table and some unsuspecting family is supposed to come along after she leaves to sit and eat at the same table that just happened at? No thanks.
