Headed to a Smokies game, we chose to stop into SmashCity for a pregame burger…read more The service and burger came up quickly. I opted for the truffle smash and large fry. My buddy opted for the Spicy Smash. The burgers were mmmmmmmmmm mmmmmmmm great, Juicy and the bun held up. Fries were fresh and would like to see maybe a topping or poutine option for them. Cool spot to get some AC and great burger before a Smokies game or a night in the old City.

SmashCity wasn't far off of the interstate, it had good ratings and although we'd been eating burgers and fries quite a bit on this roadtrip, a good burger and fries really sounded good. All of the reviews were right on - this was absolutely NOT fast food - it was fast, really fast, but the speed was just bonus. As we usually do, we split. We chose the Carolina BBQ smash. The burgers were juicy - if you're not careful, I guarantee you'll be wearing it. Two critiques, it definitely needed more sauce - I just added some of the SmashCity sauce from our fries and it worked but I really would have liked to have had more BBQ sauce. Second, the fried onions were quite burned. I pulled off most of them. The hand cut fries were piping hot, just the right amount of greasy and seasoned perfectly. Splitting the burger was a good call - I'd never have eaten the whole thing myself. The burger and fries were just over $20. When you consider a Big Mac meal at that clown place is $14, SmashCity is almost a bargain. Paul, the owner was like the energizer bunny - he was everywhere at once. Personality oozed from his pores. Make sure you tell him Sue said hi! (He won't remember me but just say hi anyway!) Now I wouldn't say SmashCity has the best burgers - that award goes to our friend Jerry. He makes a pretty mean smash burger on the blackstone. If you have an extra half hour, skip the fast food burger joints, get off that highway, and go let Paul fill your belly for the rest of your trip! You'll appreciate it!

We were in town, just passing through, and had checked into our hotel for the night. Looking about,…read morewe reviewed the local places to eat something, and wishing to avoid any of the corporate places we found Woody's was pretty close-by. This is one of the magical things about looking for places to eat on-line... you will sometimes find places that you would completely pass over if you were to look at them from the road. This is one of those places. The place is very non-descript, and definitely a locals kind of place. When we walked in there was a small party going on that looked like it was wrapping up, and we were able to get a table. We were greeted warmly, so they do have their hospitality game working for them. There is an outdoor seating area, but as it was getting dark we opted for sitting inside. We both ordered burgers... there are no fries on the menu, which was surprising until we figured out that they don't have a deep fryer. All good there... we can make do with alternatives! I went for the mac and cheese. When the burgers came out, oh boy... these burgers are quite generous and my mother could only finish half of hers. Not a problem there either... it made a very nice little lunch item the next day. The burgers are quite good, and we would absolutely return for them!

It's a great locals gathering place as well as very welcoming to visitors.

Came here on a Sunday, it had just snowed the night before so the restaurant wasn't super busy, but…read moreit still had a good crowd. We had heard of this place for a while and wanted to check it out and we're so glad we did. The food and service were amazing. Walking in it's a narrow restaurant, that has a bar on one side and tables on the other with kinda a rustic feel to it. We were seated immediately and our drink orders were taken. Since we hadn't been there before we got water and then pursued the menu a little for drinks. I had a question between two drinks and the server was very good at describing the drinks and ultimately decided to try the Darryl Strawberry, while my husband got the Nor'easter. The drinks came out and they were really good. They weren't overly strong, you could taste the bourbon in each of them, but it wasn't overpowering. For food we got the OPA! to start and then the Billy for me and the Mother Clucker for him. The OPA was awesome. It's pan seared feta with honey and served with fresh bread. The honey added a little extra sweetness to the feta which went really nicely with the crusty bread. The Billy had goat cheese, bacon, onions and, a tomato jam on it. It was delicious. The creamy goat cheese with the bacon and smokey tomato jam all went amazingly together. I got onion rings as my side, which were crunchy hot and so so good. The Mother Clucker was also really good. I only had a bite of it to try, but was definitely impressed. My husband upgraded to the duck fat fries which were out of this world. Super crunchy, great flavor. Our server kept checking back on us the whole time making sure we were satisfied with our drinks and food, but we had absolutely no complaints. This is a great place for a date if you want good food or to hang out with friends. We will definitely be back.

Since I had the burger the day before I tried another option. So I ordered the Southern Clucker, a fried chicken sandwich with cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, bacon, and jalapeños. I wasn't as impressed with the chicken as I was with the other location's burger. The chicken was fairly tough and chewy and the piece was smaller than the bun it was sitting in, so it was literally tough to eat. The bun and vegetables were fresh though. I loved the onion rings. Best seasoning I've had on fries or onion rings in a long time, and the waitress brought some ranch which helped even more! Because the locations seem consistent, I'll also give the Powell location 4 stars. Great sides, good buns, but not without their faults. Looking forward to trying the fried fish in future.
