Burger King on Via Laietana is a stone's throw away from Barcelona Cathedral.
I was excited to try out Burger King during my trip to Barcelona after hearing they have gluten-free options, compared to back home in the UK, where there's almost nothing on the menu for coeliacs.
The touch-screen ordering kiosks were easy to use and had an English language option.
There is a good amount of seating, including more downstairs.
I ordered a Large gluten-free Whopper meal, and I was surprised to learn this didn't come with cheese and it was a paid extra, prices seemed slightly high for fast food and appeared to cost more than a similar meal would cost at McDonald's.
My food was served in decent time and came with a special GF sticker, which assured me my food was gluten-free, the burger tasted and looked great, the vegetables were fresh, and the amount of sauces was generous. I would say it didn't taste like a fast-food burger at all, it was better.
The meat tasted good too and the cheese had started to melt, a bonus.
I found the fries to be just okay, they were a little bland, they were hot though and went with the burger well, which is the main thing.
I did find it interesting that the drinks are self-serve here, so you're given a cup and you have to go and fill it yourself as the drinks machine is in the restaurant area, I guess it helps save the staff time and then you can pick exactly what you want, so that isn't a bad thing.
The order numbers appeared on screen in sync with them being called, which was helpful as I do not speak Spanish, so I knew when my order was ready straight away, I'm not sure where they get their order numbers from though, they appeared to be random three-digit numbers and didn't always go in order!
4* - A good burger and experience overall, I hope Burger King finally expands their gluten-free offerings outside of Spain throughout EMEA one day soon! read more
