We visited Taco Bell hoping to experience an authentic American take on Mexican cuisine. What immediately striked us was the innovative way of taking orders. While one would expect to be served at the table in usual restaurants, Taco Bell had the quite creative idea of letting the guests pick their meal via screens. This seems to target especially the younger generation as several adolescents indulged in Taco Bell meals while we were there. We decided to get so-called Combo Meals which are basically tasting menus allowing the customer to experience the wide array of Mexican street food items Taco Bell (in the following TB) has to offer.
First item we tried in the combo menu was the burrito with carnitas. Where you'd expect to taste the flame grilled mince meat, we instead received a mouthful of sour cream. The abundance of creamy sauce did not make up for the lack of flavour.
The Combo Meal further included a side of deep fried goods, either fries with a red powder that did not add the spice we were hoping for, or nachos, or Mexican twisters. The twisters were overly salty, rather oily and tasted of cardboard with paprika seasoning that had been left in the sun.
An item our usually quite adventurous tastebuds had been looking forward to was the KitKat Quesadilla. We were confused and felt triggered by the taste of burnt chocolate mixed with earlier mentioned cardboard notes.
Luckily, a menu item that did not disappoint was the beverage. And while we certainly enjoyed the Cola, we left TB feeling abused and empty. Will recommend this to people whose days we want to ruin as our visit definitely did ruin ours for us. read more
