Sitting at a long family table we enjoyed meeting people from Ukraine, Spain, Brazil, Italy and the United States as we indulged in a carnivore's feast led by Dario, the patron of our new-found family. Also, both this and the chianina only came in rib eye (not full T-bone), but that meant we could order 1 kg instead of the 1.2 kg minimum. That was good since between the two of us, we could not even polish off the 1 kg. The grilled ember vegetables were delicious! Too bad there just weren't that many of them. The owner apologized and told us they were on the house, since his shipment did not come in due to the holiday on Monday. The tables are long and set up for multiple parties encouraging a big dinner party atmosphere. The food is amazing, a few highlights are the Tuscan beans they serve throughout the meal, the Chianti crudo which melts in your mouth, and the bistecca florentine. Utterly incredible…read more The method of presentation reminds one of the Brazilian Churrascaria where meat doesn't end but here it is much better then at any Brazilian steakhouses I have been in. But I digress. First off the place has started out as a butcher shop and has been "Antica Macelleria Cecchini" for 8 generations. The restaurant is just a latest addition to the mix. The shop is across the street where Dario meets the guests and they can have bread with Lardo. Then you can go into the restaurant where they have a wood fire oven/grille/bbq where the meat is cooked. We were there pretty early so we got an early view of the prep that goes into the experience. The tables are set up with bread, lardo, cut vegetables (celery, radishes, carrots, etc), and a 2 liter bottle of Chianti Classico (so if you're not driving drink to your heart's content). There are 2 times you can have a table. We chose 8pm and once all the guests have arrived we're off to the races. Basically you have Chianina meats served starting with Tartare, Entrecote, etc ending with Bistecca Alla Fiorentina! So pace yourself. It is a lot of food.
