There's a huge list of group classes every day of the week, basketball court, weight room, yoga, boot camp, swinging pool, racket ball courts and more. We have been going here just for a few weeks. We have a preteen and a teenager and most gyms have limited activities for youth. I enjoy most of the classes and the cardio room is state of the art. I like going on a treadmill or elliptical and watching the news or listening to music. Very smart. I haven't used the pool facilities cause I'm not sure about the open swim schedule for adults and kids. The weight room needs to be better ventilated and yes, the building is kinda small. Parking hasn't been a major issue, so far. Our only issue is that there are only a handful of classes for my preteen and we tried family Zumba one day, it was not family oriented at all. Mostly women and the choreography was too complicated, I felt like the ladies around were annoyed that I took my son. It was just like regular Zumba. Thinking of getting him involved in sports, just to have more options. read more

This gym is really into themsevles. No, really. They are. Part of their crew is really outgoing, friendly, etc. But the other people are so self-absorbed. Starting with Patrick. I'm not even sure what Patrick is. He maybe the manager, a trainer, or just a tool. I heard him tell some girls one day that "if you want to have abs like THESE it will take a LOOONG time to get them." I'm sorry but his abs aren't those to idolize too much. He knows how to put you down. He will walk away from you as you speak, and do not even waste a breathe on trying to say "Hi" to him. He's rude. There's also another trainer that has a iPhone 3G that is married to a cop, that won't smile or even ask if you're using a pair of dumbbells right next to you, before taking them. HOW RUDE! And also there is 2 twins that teach hip-hop, but these girls are so absorbed, they throw two boxing jabs and stare at themselves for 5 minutes. They also won't say greet you, so again save your breathe. Brando however, is the nicest out of all them. Always attentive with his customers, knows your name. Even asks about your day and work. His really sweet with the kids that go there. And it does not hurt that he makes the best, incredibly DELICIOUS, java smoothies on the planet. read more

The preschool has seriously gone way down hill. The teachers are still very caring and excellent but the new policies, new directors and new attitude is not very welcoming. Unfortunately I am moving my preschooler out. As for the aftercare, it is still superb. I love the wonderful role models the councelors are and the summer camps are still top notch (as they should be since they are pretty spendy). The director of the aftercare, Bryan, is absolutely amazing and has protected the after care from any kind of changes with the new powers that be. He's kept the after care running as brilliantly as possible. read more

The facility is clean and well maintained. The fitness equipment is quickly repaired and they fully utilize the air conditioning. I like working out in a cool and comfortable gym. The added cleanliness of disinfectant spay bottles provided at the workout areas is an added plus! I hated working out on equipment that was left dirty by the previous member. Now I just wipe down the equipment with disinfectant and breath a sigh of relief! The cost is $25 membership fee and $48 monthly fee. They prefer that you use a credit card to automatically deduct the $48 monthly. Cash payments are only allowed in 6 month increments. Parking-They have several parking lots available. I've been coming here for about a year and have only used the workout room (3rd floor where they keep the treadmills, weight machines, etc.) and attended one aerobics class, so I can't comment on the pools, racquet court, and stuff like that. In the workout room, there are about a dozen treadmills, a dozen ellipticals (both give or take a few), two stationery bikes, half a dozen recombent bikes, one stairmaster (there were two, but one was gone when I went last night), and 12 strength training machines. The A/C isn't that great either. On the hottest days, it gets pretty hot in the workout room. There are fans along the walls, but a lot of the members (usually the old people and skinny people) turn them off, which drives me INSANE. There was one week this summer when the A/C broke, and they didn't get it fixed for several DAYS. That was pretty unbearable, but I did notice that the die-hard workout freaks didn't seem to care. I was really ticked off last night because two treadmills and two ellipticals weren't working, and the place was PACKED. There was literally a line to get onto the machines, and it got a little hairy for awhile there because there's no formal line where you write down your name and get on a machine by order that you got there. It's all on the honor system, and some members are real jerks. The Y didn't used to be this crowded, but lately, it's been packed regardless of what time I go in. But definitely the worst time to go is between 5 and 8 pm. Other bad times to go is at the start and end of any aerobics class because parking is a bitch! Parking is bad, bad, BAD!!! Some people just park across the street at the mall, which I hate doing because there is no cross walk/light, so you're just at the traffic's mercy to get across safely. The soccer mom-types in their SUVs are ruthless, too, in trying to get a spot at the Y's lot. Last night, the staff had us sign a petition to the City of Burbank to try and get another nearby lot for the Y. I'd sign 1,000 with fake names if they had let me. I would've given this place 4 or 5 stars last year, but since it's become super crowded, I've been feeling more and more disgruntled. Grrr. read more

The Y makes it easy for me to exercise, especially with a three year old in tow! The Stay n Play team there is excellent, my daughter loves going to see Miss Kitty and the others in their childcare team. They have everything I want in a weight room, and their new Espresso cycle machines make it fun for me to get some cardio in. The basketball court is a treat, too! I've been a member here for about a year now, and I'm still discovering new things to take advantage of here. read more

My wife and I have been regulars at the Burbank Y since September 2012 and have nothing but good things to report from our experience. We go early in the morning Mon/Wed/Fri to work out and take a great Kundalini Yoga class on Saturday morning. We run an energy coaching practice and are sensitive to energy, which at the Burbank Y has always been welcoming and friendly, with a special mention due for Brando, Mike, and Elroy who can always be relied on to lift one's mood if needed. We use the cardio, weight and youth rooms and always find them clean and the equipment in good working order. Trainers are generally available for advice if needed, and there are members who are trainers and enjoy sharing their advice also. The Kundalini Yoga class with Tania is truly a perfect way to start the weekend, and we always leave feeling great and energized. There's something else special about the Burbank Y, which isn't always apparent to those who use it. The leadership here have a big heart and put their contribution to the community ahead of money, and will not turn away a potential member if they are not in a position to pay. They run a wonderful event on Thanksgiving called the Annual Turkey Trot which offers 5k and 10k races for around 2,500 runners, with their entry fees going toward scholarships to support members unable to pay membership fees. And, if volunteering is your thing, the Y offers many opportunities to do so, including at the Turkey Trot, and in other ways as well. The Burbank Y is what I'd call a heart-centered business, whose leadership looks for opportunities to do good in the community. My wife and I feel like family at the Burbank Y. It's much more than a gym, and I highly recommend it to anyone who'd like to work out in a friendly, family atmosphere. read more

Shake that thang!! Just don't plan on washing your thang here afterward... With a great variety of classes and an integrated fitlinxx system. This Y is making some great changes. It's certainly the best gym I've found in the immediate area. (I've even heard rumors they plan on adding a coffee and juice bar!) However, the locker room leaves much to be desired. After one EXTREMELY COLD shower, I stopped using the locker room to do anything more than store my things. The men seem to have it a bit better, my boyfriend said there is a pool table in their locker room...wierd. Overall a good deal for the money. read more

I still like the Y... The parking is better with the new lot - and I've only had one or two times when I've had to circle a bit. Please add more classes in the evening - after 7pm. I work full time and can only attend late classes. Also, there are no yoga classes early in the morning or late in the evening. I love the teachers - Laura and Rosanna are amazing! One star till I actually start membership. I signed up at the YMCA for several reasons. Not only is it a few minutes from my apartment but they have the specific kind of aerobics classes I've been looking for that I haven't' found at any other gym, and I've done allot of research. The staff is friendly and attentive, the gym is very clean and the clientele are " normal" people, no model type, buff steroid, fake tan, makeup wearing people. People who are here to become physically fit and that's what attracted me to this gym. I can't wait on Monday to start my weekly routine. I expect to loose 20-40 pounds by July. I joined in March. I enjoy this gym and fitness center because the employees have been very helpful to me, the classes are fun and well done, the machines and fitness gear is used but in good enough shape to continue to use. Yes, the locker rooms are a little small and older, but come on, how much time do you spend in there? I personally go to the Y, workout, then come home. The locker room has always looked clean to me, I have never once been in there and thought "ew" The pool and hot tub are clean. (I lived at Oakwood, I know what a dirty, unclean pool and hot tub look and smell like) Overall, I really cannot see why more people do not like this facility. For my budget and needs, it has been wonderful, the people very helpful and I have no complaints. read more

I would give zero stars if I could. First of all, their kid's swimming lessons are ridiculous. We tried to put our three year old in their water acclimation class, but because they over chlorinated the water in the small pool they made these tiny kids jump in and hang onto the side of the big pool - how is that ACCLIMATING THEM? My kid freaked out, so we sat on the side of the pool with him to calm him down and try to get him back into the water, but then suddenly we're unceremoniously told we have to leave after the first five minutes - so basically our kid is either going to sit there on his own outside of the pool, scream his face off while in a deep ass pool, or go home. We went home. I put in for a refund and it took three weeks, an email, and five calls to get my money back because the woman who runs the swim department can't keep herself organized. Oh I should also mention that the instructor wasn't who we were told it would be, we never got a confirmation email about the class or if we were signed up, meaning we also had no idea how the class worked/what we needed to bring, and we still don't have a confirmation that the class was canceled, though I did JUST see the money go back into my account (a month later) Then I wanted to cancel my plan because the main reason we signed up as a family was to have our kid in these terrible swim lessons. Well, you can sign up online in about three minutes, but to cancel you have to actually go in and fill out paperwork. They intentionally make it harder to cancel so you put it off and they make more money. That is super unethical and shady and not what I would expect from the YMCA. But maybe I'm naive. Either way I give this place the lowest rating I can. GET IT TOGETHER GUYS. read more

This YMCA has reinvigorated my desire to both serve the community and enjoy the benefits of being a community. From the Turkey Trot, to the Easter Egg Hunts put on by this YMCA I have enjoyed countless opportunities to reach out to and support almost every aspect of the local Burbank Community. The facilities are always clean, the staff very friendly and always helpful. The work out rooms are well maintained and for early morning work outs and yoga classes you really have to come and visit on a Saturday!! April (swimming) and Jodi have gone out of their way to get my kiddos into classes ( ballet, gym, swimming, etc). the rates are reasonable and a good bang for your buck. I should take advantage of the Zumba and yoga classes. Childcare provided free too. Only issue is parking, but you can always park at the mall. We heart the Y ;) read more

I asked to cancel in-person and they said they would suspend my membership for six months and cancel automatically at the end of the six month period; this would allow me to theoretically reactivate my membership during those six months without having to pay sign-up fees. Six months have gone by and they are charging me again. I will have to go in person to attempt to get a refund and the cancel. There is no legitimate reason to force a visit in order to cancel membership; this is an inconvenience they impose. read more

My family and I have been involved with the Burbank Y for over 12 years. I didn't give the Y 5 stars because 5 stars means I'm perfectly satisfied with all levels of service and the facilities and I'm not. I joined the Y in 2006 to rehabilitate my right arm after breaking my shoulder and to get back in shape. They had a first class fitlinxx system then that was really fantastic to work with. They also had a full time staff of trainers on duty to instruct you on the usage and operation of the machines. They helped you keep track of your workouts. There was an incentive program of prizes for when you hit your weight lifted goals. All of this slowly went away. More cardio machines came in and it seemed at the cost of staffing. Over the years more renovations, new machines were bought and staff cutbacks were made. The result, new rooms, new machines and no staff to instruct a member on how to use them. Which is all right. I don't lift anymore. I understand how to run a treadmill and recumbent bike. Moving on to Aquatics. When we first joined family swim times seemed more generous. Lap swim times were very accommodating. You could come in and get a lane or share one most any hour of the day. Over the years this changed. This past winter and spring the pool was closed from 2-3. This used to be the best time to go swimming in the afternoon! From 1:30 to 3:00. People have gone back to work. Mom's are getting ready to go get their kids from school. The rest of the world has an hour and a half to swim! Recently the Aquatics dept started closing all the lap lanes during swim instruction times even when though only half the pool is being used for instruction. There are still 2 lap lanes open that could be utilized by members for lap swimming. All that said, the pool is the best thing about the Y. It's why I continue to come and where I spend the lion's share of my time. The staff on the deck is best. Jen, the director does a fabulous job given everything she has to juggle - laps, classes, lessons, CDC, employees, etc. The guards are conscientious and well trained. The instructors all put forth a lot of effort to ensure everyone in their classes gets a good workout and has fun. Me, I'm a machine. I swim laps. Lots of laps. Finally, membership and facilities. Membership hasn't really changed over the years. They're mostly young, friendly and cheerful. If you need an answer to anything but a general question ask for the MOD. They're stickers for the rules. If you're from out of town have ID ready and they'll be happy to accommodate you from what I seen. Overall, the Y is clean and tidy. The family and Men's locker rooms are nice. The Men's Locker Room at one time had a lounge area with a pool table, a couch and tv. Nice for hanging out after your workout. Then the age limit was lowered and that went away rather quickly with the under 18 crowd. The pool table was thrashed. It and the couch were removed never to be replaced. Now that room is being remodeled into God knows what. So... All in all... a good facility. Parking is something from the 11th level of Dantes Inferno. If you're looking for a great adults only workout gym, join 24hr fitness. If you're looking for a family friendly place, that's community conscious, that's friendly, where the staff knows your name, where your kids are safe 'til 10 at night M-F, that's clean, has great classes, reasonably priced for today's economy and generally accommodating to everybody's schedule, then consider joining the Burbank YMCA. read more

This is for the Child Development Center, specifically. We started my son here a few months ago (he was 19 months). I could not be happier with our decision. The facility is nice and they get good meals and lots of outdoor time in a safe space. His teachers (Miriam, Tatiana, Yolanda) are caring and kind. They take short, local, walking field trips. There is always a new theme or focus in the classroom to keep it interesting. He is learning so much and his adjustment (and mine) was much easier than I thought it would be, thanks to leaving him with great teachers that I feel confident about. The teachers in the other classrooms seem to know him already as well, which is great as they move classrooms every 6 months or so - important for that early development to be around other kids in the same stage. I believe they are starting an infant program this fall as well. read more

I am really disappointed in them. My kids were members a couple of years ago, and they left because they were treated badly. Apparently they had this whole fee restructuring thing and my grandson's swim class tripled in price. Well, I decided to give them a shot because I really wanted a pool and group exercise classes in said pool, because I'm old and my body hurts all over. This means low impact only for me. Anyway, they talk all this great game about how if you're old and make no money (that would be me and the hubs), then it's pretty damn cheap to be a member. LIES. It is not cheap, and they try to make you feel like you're stealing from them if you apply for the discount. After being run through a million hoops, and being offered a discount so paltry it was a waste of time, we left and never went back. They could have at least been nice about it, but no one up there seems to be nice. My kids say I'm not missing anything, so no sweat off my back. According to them, it's not worth the amount they wanted, and they got me a gift membership to 24 Hour Fitness instead. Here's hoping that's the gift that keeps on giving, ya know? Don't know where else to go in this town that has a pool. read more

I was a longtime member of the Hollywood YMCA before moving to Burbank and was loathe to leave my old Y behind. But I was pleasantly surprised by the Burbank location. While it's not nearly as big as the Hollywood spot, the convenience and community/family atmosphere of the Burbank location has won me over. PROS - Great classes - Lots of cardio machines - Plenty of parking - Really clean facility - Friendly staff CONS - The facility closes at 5pm closing on Sundays, inconvenient for those who prefer to work out in the evenings - There are a limited number of circuit weight machines, which makes using them pretty competitive - The hot tub isn't very hot read more

Do not join this gym as they are committing fraud. We canceled our membership back in February and now all of a sudden in July they have begun charging us. I called and spoke to Jamie who claims to be the director of membership services And according to her we placed the account on hold and did not cancel the service. This is 100% inaccurate. we physically came in and canceled our membership. Jamie director of membership services is refusing to refund our money because she claims that's not what we did. I asked her doesn't she think it's possible that an employee there made an error and she claims the error was made by us. I asked her to give me proof that we placed the account on hold and Jamie stated we only have members sign cancelation forms but not membership hold form. Boy that sounds convenient so you have people sign cancelation forms but not account hold forms sounds fishy to me and a great way to commit fraud. Also Jamie you stated it is a 3 month hold option but we canceled in February and its now July so are you telling me we got a special hold no one else gets???? I will be filing a fraud claim against them with my bank today read more

I have been a member of the Burbank Y for over 20 years, and I must say that one of the reasons I have kept my membership is the fact that they have GREAT instructors, like Elvia and Sarah U. Both of these women are so full of life....their classes inspire me, and make me laugh so much I forget I am working out! Kudos to the Y for hiring these two women, and others like them. read more

I moved away from California and cancelled my membership in person 2 days before moving, this was in October of 2017. It is now September of 2018 and I'm still being charged. I've made countless attempts to reach Michael D. (head of membership) with no luck. Eventually I was told I would be refunded, also hasn't happened. DO NOT GIVE THESE PEOPLE YOUR BANK INFORMATION! For a "community" business they seem to be no different than LA Fitness with unauthorized charges. read more

The staff at this YMCA are accommodating and friendly. We had an especially good experience signing up with the help of Jodi. Now that we have been going consistently for a few weeks I have a few main points I think make this place worth the money and more. The first is there is usually parking during the day when we go. It is never too crowded even in the afternoon. People are friendly. There is plenty of floor space for just about any work out plan. My kids love the dancing and we plan to sign them up for swimming and gymnastics next season. If I remember I will post more about that experience. read more

Though its membership fee is a little pricey, their pool is nice to swim laps in, though it does get crowded very early in the morning so if you want a lane the moral of the story is to become a morning person. I wish I could do 0 star, this review is for the members of the Burbank YMCA, that they have credit card on the system and YMCA they take money automatically every month from your account. I cancel my membership on jun,2016 at YMCA front desk, and they continue to charge on my credit card until I noticed on SEP, 2016 and i went there to ask them what was the reason they continue charging on my credit card, and they simply said they don't know and they can refund my money, by the time I am writing this review it's about more than a month I did not receive my refund and I went to YMCA more than 10 times and every time they said they going to refund, but God knows when, I just want to say this to Burbank community be careful when you cancel your membership, and this is a shame for YMCA to do this type of customer service to Burbank community. read more

I've been a member here for nearly 12 years and endured the many incarnations of the Burbank Y. They used to have some really great programs for youth and were well-staffed by friendly and helpful employees. Old heads will remember Amanda White's amazing spin class- they let a great thing get away. But I stuck around for the boxing club. Lately they seem to be more concerned with "improving" the aesthetic and less with member experience. They've reduced the amount of equipment available in the cardio room and as part of the recent upgrade. It was fine before, in my opinion. But change is inevitable. What can you do? What compelled me to write this review is that, although they close at 10pm, in the last couple of weeks staff has been shutting rooms down 10-15 minutes prior to get people out of the gym by closing (which still doesn't necessarily occur). I'd love to stop working 10-15 minutes early every day and start packing up so I'm out the door right when I'm off but the reality is I still have to answer calls and emails while I'm on the clock. I can't understand why it should be any different here. However, they're shutting lights off in the basketball court as early as 9:45 and in the cardio room as early as 9:50. Tonight Travis, the MOD, rudely chased myself and two other paying adult members out of the observation deck at 9:50 while we were stretching and doing floor work. When I inquired as to why, he was clearly irritated by my question. He was unpleasant as I tried to explain that because I come to work out later in the evening, that 10 minutes makes a difference to me and I've never been chased out of a room in that manner in the entire time I've been a member. I've been really happy to refer friends to the YMCA, especially for the boxing program, but if this is how you're going to start treating guests and cutting our workouts short, I wouldn't feel comfortable continuing to do so. This is why people are leaving the Y in favor of the newer gyms or Defiant. I understand and am leaving in that direction myself. read more

Probably the worst maintained Y in the tri city area. Showers hot in the summer and cold in the winter. Drinking fountain by weight room broken for 6 months, swimsuit spin machine 3 months and Jacuzzi down for a month supposedly due to "waiting on part!"
