The only downside is that sometimes there are 10 or more kids in a class and that can get a bit crazy with spacing and the number of reps they can get in. Parents with younger children DO NOT drop off your children here for all day camp. They DO NOT offer a lunch time. They offer them a morning snack at 10am and an afternoon camp at 2pm. NO official lunch. My daughter came home saying she was hungry because she wasn't given lunch. She repeatedly asked if she could have her lunch and they told her not until 2pm. There are rules and regulations around child care centers (camps, schools etc) and meal times and they are in direct violation of them. I called the office and they didnt care. They said this was their policy and couldn't let my daughter eat lunch at 12pm. Parents please avoid this place for camp. read more

Because they sell ice cream - $5 for an 80¢ Good Humor - in two big prominently displayed freezers, and they sell plushies and other junk, I am docking Cal Elite three full stars. The class itself is great, my kid loves it. The fact that I have to deal with my kid being tempted by more useless overpriced junk in his face after every class is NOT COOL. I get it, capitalism, cool. Sell overpriced gymnastics gear and merch, okay? There is NO REASON a gymnastics studio needs to sell stuffed animals and Dippin' Dots. It's a slap in the face to your customer base, hardworking parents, in a down economy, who are trying to nurture their children's interests. If there were more options in the area, I would take my child elsewhere on principle. This place is a racket, charging $43 per hour which is ridiculous for a one-hour kids' gymnastics class. The price is exorbitant for a family who just wants to get their kids out and moving while learning new moves that teach strength and flexibility. To boot, the classes regularly start 2-3 minutes late (one time a full 5 minutes late), and end 2-3 minutes early, shaving off a full 4 - 6 minutes off of the already-outrageously-prices session. Before you call me a petty twit, remember that this is a business that is taking your money in exchange for a service. If you don't fully provide the service paid for, then that's called cheating. Second, the standards they use are completely arbitrary. In the seven months my son has been a student, I have gotten all of two progress reports. The levels are "Attempted, Learning, and Mastered." For instance a "tuck forward roll" shows that he is "Learning." In my world, that's called a somersault, and my son mastered that 6 years ago. When I asked the receptionists how it is determined, she said, "It's based on the instructors' observations." Translation: completely subjective. Based on the limited communication I receive from the gym, it appears that the teachers are trained to keep kids in Level 1 as long as possible in order to maximize profits. It doesn't matter how good a kid is, they can't progress because it's bad for business. Third, the teachers don't appear to have any teaching credentials or experience in what they're teaching, not to mention that during the limited 7 months my son has been there, two have already left, requiring us to switch him to a new day/time because that slot is no longer available. Lack of employee retention is a red flag in my book, and may indicate less than ideal conditions behind the scenes. Fourth, the teachers that are there are, shall we say, not so nice. Jessica is my son's current teacher, and has never once said hello to me or given me an update as to my son's abilities. Taj is a new hire who filled in for Jessica when she was absent. Today, at the beginning of class, my son said to Jessica, "What's your name again?" She didn't respond. Taj, who was standing right next to her, said, "How long have you been in this class? You still don't know her name?" Jessica smirked. Are you serious? Twenty-five-year-old instructors who are supposed to be welcoming and inclusive are making fun of a 9-year-old who asked a simple question and could have been answered with a one-word response (i.e., the name)? This is especially galling since the question wasn't even directed to Taj, yet he used it as an opportunity to deride my son and make him feel bad in front of everybody. This place used to be called Burbank Gymnastics, and was a community staple before it was bought out by Cal Elite, a corporation that prides profits over people. First, they painted the building grey, switching from the fun pink and blue that was part of the enthusiastic vibe. Second, they increased the prices substantially, making it affordable for very few. We have been going here for a few weeks and there are a few things that I don't love: 1. I was given basically ZERO information before the first class. I had no idea who the teacher was, where to go, class structure, where to park, where to change--nothing. And no one was there to help brief anyone 2. The class ratios are insane. One teacher to 10 children. The teacher is great but it's not enough 1:1 attention to justify the $160/month price 3. Attitudes. There seems to be an...elite attitude by ownership. Nope! NOPE!! DO NOT send your child here. Idiocracy vibes. 1st- There are too many classes happening at once in a tiny space- it's not a real gym. My toddler got smacked into multiple times by other kids doing their circuit. There's no where for parents to sit or safely escort their child. 2nd. Some teachers seems great but there was never a lesson plan. They'd spend the first 15 mins of class sitting around ( not even stretching ) and getting the obstacle course set up. This should not be done during class time. But this was the final straw ... They sent a curt email telling me my son's (paid for) Saturday class was canceled due to maintenance issues with the gym. There was nothing about a makeup or refund. I wanted my son to get his makeup class, but we were leaving for vacation. I called and left a message saying we'd like to do a makeup. Someone called back and left a polite but vague message, so I called again and I was told that if my son was no longer enrolled he couldn't make up the class. They said it was their policy. I reminded them that it was not our fault he missed the class but the young vapid lady on the phone said she couldn't schedule him herself anyway, and I'd have to talk to the general manager... who was not in. And who's phone number I could not have. I sent an email to this GM and their response was unreal. They would accommodate me JUST THIS ONCE, but it was their "Policy" that a student can only do a makeup when enrolled. Again I responded with, thank you and I accept the gesture- but I don't really appreciate being treated like I'm trying to get something for free. We paid for the class already and YOU canceled it. And I don't appreciate having to jump through hoops to schedule a makeup. Make it easy. You should be initiating this, not me. Your policy should not apply in this case. We're talking about a 3 year old! He just wants to roll for Christ sakes! They maintained that rules are rules. Big ick. I'm so glad this interaction was not in person because I seriously might've thrown a shoe. Bottom line- they suck. For the prices they charge ( 140-170/month) they could afford to give a small s about customers. read more

Cal elite itself is such an amazing program, I went there when I was small and was so excited that I could get my son in a class! But I have to say ALEX the instructor for the Weepies class I really can't say great things, my son really enjoys going to the class, and just because we were unable to make it a couple times for being sick, which I'm pretty sure you don't wanna bring your kid that is sick to play with other children Alex removed us without notice without calling and telling us why , which they aren't supposed to remove you unless you call and say your reasoning why you want to be removed from the class! I called to ask why I was removed and a sweet girl put me back on the class , checked again and I was removed and ALEX removed us again I could always tell there was something weird with him because he never would interact with my son! I think it's absolutely pathetic that you would remove a kid for not being able to show up a couple times especially when the class is free! read more

I can't say enough about Alex, Polly and the entire gang at Cal Elite in Burbank. This is a welcoming and comforting gym for all of the littles. The service they provide, from Admin and organization to the training of the children is really second to none. You could not ask for a better group of trainers / teachers. They make the kids feel so comfortable and so supportive. Alex goes out of his way to make it a good time for the parents and kids during each class. For the Olympics, they decorated the gym to get into the Olympic spirit! The gym is clean, has plenty seating for care givers, has all the gym apparatus you could ask for, the training is safe, and there is positive energy that flows through the entire space. Parking can sometimes be a bit challenging so arrive a little bit early. As far as cost, it's incredibly reasonable!!! Well worth it for this type of activity! read more

This place has an unsafe environment for little children. My son was exposed to another sick child was allowed to play with the rest of the kids instead of kept at home where sick children belong. The thing that drove me over the edge was when we showed up for his last class of the month (because they canceled on us two weeks prior very last minute) they told him he could not join the class because he canceled his membership. My son recently had his fourth birthday party at Fun & Fit Gymnastics in Burbank. He invited 20 of his preschool classmates to help him celebrate the day. To say that we were pleased with the event is an understatement. The entire staff from reception to coaches were amazing. The facility was very accommodating with my MANY requests and they did so without frustration. They helped me turn the already cute party room into a makeshift fire station for my son's firefighter themed party. I was amazed at how great the room looked. All of the coaches were great with the kids. They were very high energy and fun. In particular, I want to praise Coach Alex who made our day extra special. Alex has a unique talent for keeping the kids under control while ensuring they have a great time. Managing 20, 4 year olds is like wrangling cats and he did it effortlessly. My son adores him as do I. I can't say enough good things about our party experience. Party Advice: ~ Invite kids of similar ages. This allows the coaches to tailor the activities to a certain age group. ~ Providing the staff with as much detail as possible regarding how you would like the party room to look is helpful. It is impossible for them to imagine your vision without some guidance. I gave them a couple of pictures from Pinterest and it made things much easier when we discussed the "look" of the space. ~ Less is more when it comes to food. The area where food is served isn't huge so keeping things simple is best. I think I unnecessarily got a little ambitious with the food and it wasn't necessary. Pizza, chips, fruit and snacks would have been plenty. ~ Our 20 partygoers was perfect. I think more than 20 would have been too many. read more

I really like this place since my kids love this gym type of activities. Was recently here for a birthday party. The instructors are very nice and seems very knowledgeable. This is based on our short exposure to this place. The one thing which is a huge thing about this place. THE SMELL. It smells like they are wiping the canvas with sweat and using old gym socks to wipe it off then they pile it under the bleachers. Spray it with some room freshener in the flavor of Rose to counter it. I cannot believe people have birthday parties and eat in this place. If you are close by, stand next to the door and you get what I am saying. Wish they can really clean this place up, I have been to boxing gyms that smell better. read more

This is a fantastic place to come and learn gymnastics. They seem to take all shapes and sizes and train them in the most positive and fun learning environment. The kids always seems to be having a great time. The coaches are very encouraging and each one seems to have a unique teaching style. I really love this place for a few reasons. 1. I was a student here in 1988 and for several years thereafter, and 2. it has absolutely helped my daughter with her self esteem and confidence. I decided to give this place a try with a Living Social Deal first, just to make sure my daughter would like it. She is 3 and is incredibly shy and is very cautious. We absolutely LOVE Teacher Tammi. The first few weeks of the class, my daughter would not go down the slide into the foam pit, would not swing on the rope into the foam pit, or even attempt a somersault. Now my daughter can't wait for class and likes to be the first person to do any of the demonstrations or to get up the ladder to the slide. At first though, this place was too crowded for me. Before you get upset about it though, realize that its crowded for a reason. People enjoy it! That should be a good sign. Parking does suck, but you can manage. There's a small lot behind the building and street parking. If you don't like how crowded it is, try to get a class while most kids are in school. I'm lucky that my work schedule allows me to be with my daughter on Tuesday for her class, we are able to go right after preschool gets out. Although, with the change of class time, I do miss the conditioning and fitness class that Alex would run during my daughters Tuesday 4:15 class. It was real fun to watch and I'd find myself really liking the exercises he would have the kids do (gave me inspiration for at home workouts) and the music he would choose as well. When my daughter is old enough, I'm definitely signing her up for that. Alex seems fun and the kids really love him! We have had subs here for Teacher Tammi's classes when she can't be there and we liked them just as much, Codi and Quinton come to mind, they are the sweetest! I find this place to be very professional, we have had no issues with anyone, but if we ever did, I know they would handle it the right way. If you need to cancel at any time, let them know before class, and you can always schedule a make up. We just had our 4-year old's bday party here this past weekend. I have to say... Gabbi & Ariana made things A PIECE OF CAKE. I mean, it is SO much that the mom/dad needs to plan for the party but you get there and these wonderful teachers help set up goodie bags, ask your preference on everything (order of events!), know exactly how to call the kids' attention for the cake, singing, photos... everything. I was not required to use my brain at ALL because they were SO WONDERFUL & HELPFUL!!!! I would celebrate my next kids' bday here in a HEARTBEAT. Even the parents had fun!!! I even got to pick my music!!! I am still (3 days later) getting compliments from the guests' parents. Amazing job, guys. read more

Tonight was our second class through park and rec. And I have to say, I had no idea what to expect since I didnt do these kind of classes as a kid. These instructors are great! They are fun but keep it strict to keep the kids safe! They praise the kids when they listen or do something right and honestly have a ton of patience. I'm pretty sure my daughter's teacher is Gia (forgive me for forgetting who the other 2 ladies names). They have all been great but Gia has such an amazing attitude and energy! It usually takes my daughter a few classes before warning up to things and day one my daughter was asking to go back as soon as it is over! They are doing a great job! I hope to keep my daughter learning at this facility for as long as possible! read more

I took my 5 year old for about 2 months. My daughter was standing or sitting for the most part of the class and all together she got to practice for about 10 mins each class session. I decided to cancel and I had two make up sessions left from the time my daughter was sick. And guess what? They said the I can't use the sessions that I paid for. So I paid the enrollment fee and a cancelation fee and they didn't let me use the two classes make up classes that I paid for. Very disappointed. I was here Saturday for a birthday party for my friend Denise L's granddaughter (who had turned 5 years old). Fun & Fit was adequately staffed for this birthday party, as they had 3 young ladies tend to the needs of the family and guests. Fun & Fit transforms one of their rooms into a banqueting room, fully equipped with tables and benches. Their staff will spend time entertaining the children, having them perform various gymnastic tumbles, etc. All I can say is that the owners are truly running a great operation and providing an awesome service. If the very little exposure I had is any indication of how they operate their primary business of gymnastics, then I'm certain they have a truly magnificent program. read more

My kid enjoys the class very much and has been going there for months. We missed one class because my kid was sick. So I scheduled a make-up class and met Alex. He seemed to have an attitude, I don't know why. Maybe he was having an off day and that was the day I happened to meet him. Suffice it to say, I didn't have a good experience. We arrived at the class five minutes before the start time and my kid walked around checking things out and playing in the sponge pit. Alex came out and informed me that we were not allowed inside until the class starts. I'd never been told this by any other teacher and apologized. Perhaps different teachers have different rules. After that, during the class I couldn't help feeling ignored. I wasn't quite sure if it was on purpose because my kid wasn't in his regular class. While we were going through the obstacle course, when it was my kid's turn to do a somersault with Alex's assistance, like other kids in front of him, he walked away to say hi to the kid who was behind us. I ended up going through with my kid alone. When it was time to do the hand stand which my kid has never done and had no clue how to do, I was hoping Alex would guide and encourage my kid. I told Alex that my kid didn't know how to do it. He replied, "Just grab the bar, put your feet on the wall. I don't know what to teach", and walked away (again). I again ended up alone with my kid, with me showing my kid how to do it. Then it was rope time. There were probably 3-4 kids doing it. He asked if there was anyone else who wanted to do the rope, otherwise he would put it away. We were right there and asked him if we could do the rope. Alex looked annoyed and said , "Yes, but be quick." I mean yes it was a make-up class for us, not our regular class, but I paid like any other parent. I would hope the staff on any given day would treat us the same as their regulars. read more

My oldest daughter took the Kids Progressive class here a little over a year ago and LOVED it! The teachers she had (variety of gals) were super enthusiastic. Their positive reinforcement and can-do encouragement gave my daughter the space she needed to test her skills physically and to build confidence. I just enrolled my younger daughter (4 years old) in the same class, hoping for the same experience, and we were less than impressed with the teacher, Alex. For a business who's mission is to promote a non-competitive, enthusiastic environment, this teacher seems a poor fit. My 4 year old took a basic gymnastics class at a different facility about a year ago and she excelled - this was her first class back after that year-long hiatus and, at 4, I thought she did well, following complex instructions, and remaining enthusiastic despite Alex's approach. She definitely needs assistance with her skills, and today my daughter suggested that she practice her forward rolls at home so that Alex wouldn't "be MAD" at her next time. She's awesome for wanting to practice! AND a 4-year-old should not be made to feel that her teacher will be "mad at her" for not having enough skill! Alex asked my child how old she was during the class (I imagine because he thought her to be under-skilled). During the class, another teacher made a comment (which I didn't hear) to Alex. His response was that these kids were going to have to WORK! today, then made a comment to a kid about how they needed to work hard to get strong. I'm all for strength building and hard work AND I expect that to be packaged appropriately for this age. Side note: my husband is an ex-football player who is familiar both with hard work and coaches. He sat through this class with me, and at one point I looked over at him wide-eyed at our daughter's experience. I asked if he was ok with this and he replied, "barely." At the end of class, Alex approached us and said, "I'm assuming your daughter is new to this." Perhaps my interpretation, but I was taken aback. At 4 years of age and at this NON-competitive facility specifically, I expected the teacher to be more nurturing of my child's development and to meet her at HER level. (Was there a class prerequisite we missed?) My kid should not be made to feel less-than because she isn't meeting the teacher's expectations in a BEGINNING class at age 4!!! I'm super disappointed to have to pull her from this class - there was not another section open with a different teacher. My daughter was SUPER excited to do gymnastics and is now incredibly disappointed to to not be returning for a sport she is very interested in - but she deserves a positive experience. I'm presuming this maybe wasn't Alex's best day. But at best, I'd say this age group is not his forte. When I called in today to provide feedback, I was heard and the gal I spoke with said she'd give Alex the feedback. Nice enough, I suppose, but that is not going to help my daughter continue this season. It would be lovely if the management would give more consideration to appropriate teacher placement. read more

My daughter has been going to classes with Fun & Fit for the last two years. (In fact her Dad went when he was child so it's now come full circle.) We have had a few teachers as she's moved up the levels and we have loved every single one. They are attentive, create fun and challenging environments but also respond to your child and their approach. I've noticed the kids that want to come just for fun, they push them gently but let them go at their own pace. For the kids that are more focused and want more challenge they keep it fun but always push them to improve. My daughter only goes one time per week but I'm always impressed that she keeps improving. They know the exact exercises and routines to keep them moving up and improving their coordination and strength. We have loved both coaches Tami and Austin. My daughter is excelling, staying fit and loving it! Thank you to the entire staff and the owner Jeff for creating such a fun and safe space for our children! read more

**I would give two stars because the youngish looking teens did a great job decorating. Truly deserves one star because of the coach Thayer is condescending attitude towards everyone and her unfriendly assistants.** We sadly regret having our son's 4th birthday party here (keep in mind he's still technically 3 because he turns 4 in two weeks). All of the guests were 3 years old. A quick child development course would be a great idea for the staff to understand (and also a quick class on 3 year old boys in general) how to teach this age group. The instructor Thayer was boring and acted as if she were teaching older children. She quickly showed impatience that the children weren't responding how she expected them to. My own son quickly grew bored and wandered off a few times into the party room to look at the decorations and grab a grape (and side note, my son has excellent behavior at school and is the class leader and loved by his teachers). I heard Thayer make a snarky comment to his friends about my son wandering away. This was within the first ten minutes of the class and I had a sinking feeling in my stomach that she was not nice to children. I made a note of it and began observing her very closely (I'm an elementary teacher so I recognize a bully teacher from a mile away). She soon realized that it wasn't just my son she couldn't captivate, but his friends as well. She then suggested to me that the kids have free time instead of doing a class and I agreed. She stated that the parents needed to stay with their kids. We announced it to the parents and everyone said ok and got up to come to the mat. The kids started running around, jumping, finally having a good time, and that's when Thayer and the other two helpers got just plain rude with both parents and children. One of the children jumped on the small trampoline and got his foot caught in the netting and hurt his ankle. My father in law asked Thayer to remove the trampoline. Thayer actually ARGUED with my father in law about removing it, huffed and puffed, and finally removed it when she realized she couldn't win that argument. She talked to parents so rudely over and over again. Several parents were talking to us about her. It was pretty embarrassing for me personally because we picked this place. She told both my husband and I, on two separate occasions, that she would "shut this party down". She also made this statement in front of another parent. Really, lady? You're going to shut down a 3 year old's birthday party because parents aren't holding their kid's hands throughout the whole gym? She clearly has no clue how absolutely disheartening and rude it is to say this to parents and kids. (Parents standing near their children was not good enough and she literally wanted hands held). My teenage daughter was also there with her best friend jumping around and they got reprimanded as well for something meaningless. Thayer also repeatedly took underhanded shots at my son and his friends when she said THREE TIMES to me "well, in a normal party with kids who can sit..." Seriously, all I could think was "Well, at a NORMAL party the staff is fun, engaging, and understands child development. At a NORMAL party the staff smiles and is actually welcoming. At a NORMAL party, parents don't feel like their children are annoying you." The entire time the three women looked annoyed and tense. The two helpers didn't smile once. I caught the black girl glaring at me once and I have no idea why. The whole vibe was weird and so unfriendly. This is a child's party, for God's sake. I also had to ask her to turn up the music because it was barely audible. After the very controlling, uncomfortable, irritable "play time" the kids were rushed through food and cake, then prepared to go home. Thayer suddenly became friendly with parents when she passed out free class coupons, hoping to drum up some business for the gym. Interesting because she didn't give us one (shouldn't the people who paid for the party get a free pass??), or thank us for coming. She literally shut the lights off while we were still putting our shoes on. We will never return to this facility, or recommend it to friends. There were 15 kids at our party, and that's 15 set of parents who left feeling disrespected and frustrated (I know, because we all talked about it later with them). To the owner: as a 21 year old veteran elementary teacher, here's a few suggestions: train the staff on child development and how to teach 3 year olds at a birthday party. Hire friendly staff who actually love children and want to be there. Break the party into small groups and have stations the kids rotate through. The kids had to SIT for 10 minutes listening to Thayer. They should have been up, playing, using the equipment! My 4.5 year old daughter has been coming her for 3 years. Alex has been her teacher during that time until we had to change days / times. He is incredible not to mention hilarious. He pushes her in the best way possible and encourages focus which she is desperately lacking (rightly so as she is a toddler). I really like everyone here and we tend to do the Friday evening events which my daughter loves as well. I can't imagine us ever leaving unless my daughter loses interest in gymnastics which I don't see happening anytime soon. Great establishment for the kiddos. read more

My 2.5 year old daughter has been attending Fun and Fit for about 6 months and loves every minute of it. During the Mommy and Me class with teacher Alex my daughter learns the fundamentals of gymnastics, waiting her turn and participating in group activities. Alex is always very attentive to every child and gets every child excited about learning something new. His energy is contagious and he creates an safe and enthusiastic environment that promotes fun and fitness! The facility is always very clean and the staff is more than helpful. Enrolled my 4 year old girl after being recommended from former students. Class was over-full, and while the instructors were outgoing and playful, the class structure left much to be desired. Too many kids in a circuit caused a huge waiting line several times, and the attention per kid time was minimal at best. There were 10 kids for two instructors, and instead of splitting the group into two smaller groups, they kept them together, which minimized even more time. Add to that the trampoline time was terribly organized, with one child going at a time while nine waited their turn, and you can see why we quit the program within two months. The potential is there. They have a great space and energetic coaches. They just need to better plan out their class and timing so kids can get a maximum workout in the short time they are there (speaking only from experience of the pre-k class). I don't pay the fees so my kid can sit half the class. read more
