Garri Dance Studio is honestly the best out of the three studios my daughter has been to. The teachers are super nice and encouraging, and the staff is really helpful and friendly. They even send birthday cards for the kids, which is a sweet touch. They're also flexible with make-up classes, making it easier for busy parents like me to manage everything. I also appreciate that they keep a stash of used ballet and jazz shoes to lend out if the kids/parents forget theirs. it's such a relief knowing they've got our back, especially as a busy working parent juggling a lot. Plus, there's no strict uniform rules; it's all about having fun and dancing. Overall, it's a really positive, relaxed place that my daughter loves. read more

Garri Dance has become a second family to us. My daughter takes a number of classes there, and she loves every second of it. She has developed such a love and passion for dance since starting at the studio, and her skill level has really taken off too! Every one we know recommended this studio and it wins best of Burbank every year so we gave it a try. If you're just interested in doing a little dancing for fun it's probably alright but as a former dancer/ dance teacher from a different state, this studio did not live up to my standards for technique. This crew is outstanding when it comes to the amount of life forming skills our girls have obtained. The relationships we've made over the years are irreplaceable and life long. Thank you to Garri Dance! My 4yo daughter loved dance until a few weeks before the recital. I don't know if it was nerves or what, but I told her she could quit after the recital if she wanted to because I didn't want to force her to do it. At the rehearsal and recital, her sweet teacher was so hands on with all of the kids and meeting their every need - I was the parent volunteer and thought it would be on me, but she was sooo there for them! The recital was inspiring, magical, wonderful, and not only did my daughter enjoy it, she walked off the stage saying she wanted to keep dancing after all (completely unsolicited). When my Daughter started to dance at Garri dance it was for the Mommy and me class, the class was an amazing bondig experience with my little one her teacher was Ms. stephanie for about two years i believe maybe more she as she grew she grew an attachment with Ms. Stephanie she taught my daughter so much she taught her to follow directions, stay in line, sing, music, and Dance. Garri Dance Studio - Garri Dance Studio 2017 with Daddy - Performing Arts Near Me - Burbank, California

This is regarding the Hip-Hopopotamus class for 2-3 year olds. The description says the class is "geared towards the toddler who can't stop bouncing to the beat." We will be filing a complaint with Burbank Parks and Recreation regarding Stephanie, one of the dance teachers. We feel that this teacher Stephanie is verbally abusive to toddlers. We lasted about 15 minutes before we pulled our daughter from the class. It was absolutely horrific. First of all, parents are not allowed inside the classroom. There is a monitor but you can't hear what is being said to your child. We insisted on being present inside. Stephanie started by telling one of the toddlers to sit on a dot. When he stood up she said, "No, we will not have that in MY class. You need to sit down. Then she stopped the music while she continued to force him to sit down again and again. Finally she punished him. I quote, "You didn't sit down so you don't get a maraca until last." There is an 8-year old assistant girl that she instructed not to give the boy the maraca. The boy's mother was not present in the classroom. She was waiting outside, I informed her of what happened. Then Stephanie STOPPED THE MUSIC FOR 10 MINUTES to force ALL the two and three year olds to sit down at the same time as she said, "You cannot behave like that in MY class." We then pulled our daughter from the class. We cannot believe that this is being allowed. Is this the philosophy of Garri's Dance Studio?" Are the teachers allowed to punish the toddlers? Why do they have a dance class with hardly any music ? We consider ourselves somewhat strict parents and we welcome a structured environment. This is not structured. This was bullying. THESE ARE TODDLERS! There was no positive reinforcement. There was little music. There were punishments. During the class, a late parent knocked on the door. Stephanie told the parents not to open the door. I recommend to all of you parents who go to Garri's Dance Studio to INSIST on being in the classroom for Stephanie's classes if she is somehow still there. Do not allow your toddler to be verbally abused! These classes are supposed to be fun, these are not dog obedience classes! We have taken our child to a ton of classes with dozens of instructors, all of them were kind to toddlers as they happily tried to keep some sense of order. Stephanie however is the first verbally abusive teacher we have ever witnessed. Stay away from those classes or insist that you are present in the class until this situation is resolved. read more

I danced at this studio for almost 15 years before it changed locations and the previous owner moved. I do know that the new owner is awesome and deserves great reviews! She has turned it around from a tiny studio with just a few teachers and classes, to a new and bigger space with classes of all sorts for people of all ages. It's a place that no matter how old you are, or how inexperienced, you can fit in... as long as your schedule allows you to. I would say for professional dancers, this isn't the place for you. You've got Millenium and Debbie Reynolds for that--- but for everyone else-- this is your place. read more

To be fair, I would actually give this studio 5 stars for quality of the dance classes alone. My daughter's teacher is awesome and is so energetic and really seems to love kids and dance. They lose stars though for their complicated processes that aren't always explained to every parent and when you ask a question, you are often told that someone else will have to call you. Also, I've read the other reviews about rudeness and not being welcoming to new parents. I can see how some will feel this way. The front desk staff was very curt and unfriendly when we first started, but they eventually softened up after I've asked them a few questions and they've become very familiar with us. After that, they have gone above and beyond with getting my daughter included in activities. I guess my advice to other parents who are considering this place is to get more involved. The quality of the instruction is definitely worth the effort. You'll just have to overlook the initial unfriendliness of the staff because if you make an effort to get to know them, they do warm up very quickly. read more

I don't like #1) that every session you have to pay a registration fee of an extra $25 (at other places its a yearly reg fee) #2) then on top of it you got to pay electronically and every month they deduct from your bank account, #3) if you wanna cancel the class you have to give a 30 days WRITTEN notice #4) they are more expensive then millenium dance complex, which I will be researching into after I give my 30 day notice..At first I thought this place was great but after this new session the current teacher is lazy she sits down texting when she should be teaching the kids to dance, also garri dance gives a -$10 discount credit off your monthly charge if you write a 5 star review on yelp LOLZ Thats so sad! My daughter has been attending Garri Dance for over a year now and every week she still looks forward to her class! Our experience with this studio has been absolutely wonderful. Ms. Megan and Ms Adrienne have always been great at providing all the necessary information about the studio policies - answered any questions regarding classes and events and have always been extremely caring with my little girl! The teachers have been excellent - they are patient and very attentive. My daughter is very social, she thrives in an environment that allows her to express her creativity but still maintains some structure and Garri Dance provides this outlet for her. I appreciate that while the children are allowed to have fun, they still learn and follow the teacher's directions. Ms Lauren, Ms Emily and now Ms. Stephanie - have been incredible teachers and have nurtured my daughter's confidence and allowed her to grow creatively. This might be unfair as I went to this studio at the old location... but in case there are similarities I wanted to give a warning & tell my story... My friend and I thought it would be AWESOME to learn to tap dance. Both in our late 20's we had never taken tap lessons and saw there was an adult class for beginners. We signed up and bought shoes and were really excited. However, when we went to our first lesson, we discovered this class was preparing for a recital (no one told us this when we signed up). Yes. Women older than us- preparing for a recital. I mean... get real man I don't want to tap in some ridiculous recital, I'm an ADULT like it says in the class name. We had NEVER tapped before and this was supposed to be for BEGINNERS. The recital was in 6 weeks, so we were made to do all our tapping in the back corners where we would not be in the way of those practicing for the show. It was an unfortunate view of great big butts. The instructor- some sort of ex-sorority girl wouldn't say the name of the moves or what they were- and we slowly figured out all these great big butts belonged to women had tapped growing up and didn't need to be told what the moves were. We tried to learn something since we already paid... but decided it was too awkward being in the way and not being told what to do- so we quit. But they had already pre-charged for the next month and would not refund our money. Also. I left this black sweatshirt that was pretty awesome there- went back to get it the next day, and it was gone. Nope. Can't think of a single good thing to say. I hope things are different now... but if you are an adult thinking it would be totally fun to learn to tap, I would first see just what you're getting into before signing up. Hands down the best dance studio in Burbank. Now, let me tell you that I have tried out several dance studios - (I am a pilates addict, so I did my fair share of testing out other studios in the area). Garri Dance Studio had the best staff and teachers - by far. They are extremely friendly and helpful. I occasionally also take my niece to Garri Dance for her dance classes. My niece looks forward to her ballet class every single week and doesn't seem to want to leave. The teachers are very patient with the kids and its apparent that the kids just genuinely enjoy the environment. So if you are looking to join a studio to get into shape or maybe even enroll your kids into a dance class or two - look no further. read more

I tried taking my little 3 year daughter here but she didn't do well with there at all. The other girls in the class seemed way ahead of her and the class was boring. Music was played and there with a few dance moves that were shown which a 3 year old wouldn't get unless she had a bit more experience. The classes are ongoing but if you are new, you wouldn't feel very welcome unless you took more classes. Plus, be sure to bring your kid in a tutu or something special like that or she will feel left out for sure. read more

At first I loved it. Then after a while I was getting more hour's At work and couldn't take my daughter. They said I could reschedule her classes. But when I called they lady said after 2 weeks if I didn't make up those classes the classes would be lost so I would be paying $25 each class even if she went or not. Witch I though was dum because she only went Fridays. & those were the only days she can make up Asked to cancel because I was fed up. With having to pay when she would miss most classes.They said I had to give 30 days so I waited and gave the 30 days and they said I had to come In and sign a paper. I don't understand how they just can't cancel your membership. Since they charge you electronically they can deduct you without authorization. I called and said I cancelled why are they still the ducting she said I had to come in. I refused I was fed up with them. So I had on to change my card card number for them to stop charging. And its funny to me that they still call and tell me my daughter is not attending I cancelled with you all along time ago. I honestly disliked liked the whole paying method and how complicated it is to cancel. read more

If I could give more stars I would. We go to the studio for ballet and piano weekly and could and should go on and on about that. However this review is for the best Hip Hop birthday party ever. Turning five has it's privileges , one being that she had three amazing dance instructors and support staff for her party of 25 children. (Not to mention just as many adults in the building). From setup to break down, goodie bags to decorations, vegan pizza to cake, invitations to thank you cards ... everything was taken care of and might I add with a smile. Confirmations all the way through. Accomidations for all of my wacky requests and changes including adding a character appearance and 10 last minute RSVPs. Just when you think they did it all the staff gave her a personalized gift and a dozen roses to me. We have been with the studio for almost two years and feel they are extended family. If you are thinking of taking classes , do it. If you are thinking of booking a birthday party, book early because space is limited. Thank you from the bottom of our heart Miss Megan. Let me start by saying that I teach as an independent dance instructor (rent studio space) at Garri, but have no affiliation with them. My granddaughter just turned 2 and I wanted to start her dance life early so I contacted the studio. Megan Baede the owner was very helpful with my questions and invited us to come in and try out a class to see how she would like it the next day. We arrived half hour early for the Saturday noon class and the studio was packed with toddlers and children and their parents. Aicha at the front desk was expecting us and greeted us with a smile and informed us that the instructor was aware we were coming and would come get us when she was done with her class in session. Right before noon all three of the dance rooms opened up with smiling children exiting and others going in for their next class. Aicha let us know it was time to go in and my granddaughter and her mom went in. The instructor, Ms. Katy called her by her name and made her and her mom feel comfortable in her first ever dance class. This was a beginner ballet/tap class. We watched nervously on the lobby monitors as she went from clinging to mom to participating alone in less than 30 minutes. After her class she wanted more!! Ms. Katy said she did great for her first time. I asked Aicha a ton of questions and she was great in explaining everything and addressing all of our concerns. I signed her up for lessons and decided to get her proper dance attire there. Aicha sized her up for her shoes and her leotards and skirt which she would not remove all day. As and dance instructor for over 16 years I'm very critical of dance studios and instructors and this was my granddaughter. Garri was beyond my expectations and I highly recommend them. I can't say enough good things about Garri dance. My niece has been taking dance class there for about a year and she loves it! She was very shy at first and wasn't comfortable in the class she was in (she didn't like the "tap" noise) so the staff at Garri let her try out other classes until she was comfortable. Ms. Stephanie did a great job with the rehearsals making it fun which is why myself and many other Dads and daughters came back again (many multiple times). My daughter and I really enjoyed it. My daughter has been with Garri Dance since she was 5 years old. I had her in a previous program where she cried during the recital. The first time we did a recital with Garri Dance I was afraid my daughter would cry again or not dance. My daughter smiled happily during the recital and knew all the dance steps. I also love that their recitals are so organized and put together so well. My daughter loves all of her teachers and has always been that way with all of her dance teachers at Garri over the years. Went to their open house and participated in the "pre-dance" class offering. It was very interactive and relaxed. A follow the leader method. My daughter (17 months) loved it. I asked the person at the front desk if this is similar format for the 18-24 month class. She said yes, with the exception of an adult has to attend with the child. The child is expected to wear dance clothes. OK, sounded good. We signed up. The Good: They refunded my money upon request without too much issue. The Bad: The class was very regimented for such a young age group (which I would expect in an older group class). Also lots of requests to "sit on your spot" and waiting around. My daughter did not enjoy this at all. We were not the first one to walk out on the class early. The take away is that GDS is attempting to provide classes for children of that age group, which is needed, appreciated, and admittedly are in limited supply in the area. However, I don't think they have the experience with children of that age group. The class needs to be restructured to address the limitations and interest of children of that age group. read more
