We came here for a birthday party as the birthday girl attends Junior Gym. I was worried that my sons (5 & 2) wouldn't really get into things, but they had an absolute blast. Even our youngest who tends to be a little reserved/cautious was laughing and enjoying every piece of equipment he was allowed to get onto. I put all of this on the wonderful coaches who took the time to give every kid their own time to shine and do it with such passion and joy that it made everyone feel like they were the stars of the gym. It was a joy from start to finish. And while the kids had a blast on the mats & bars, the parents all had a blast watching them run around. The second we left, both of our kids asked when they could come back and if they could do gymnastics. We are definitely looking in to it. Junior Gym is fantastic. If they are even half that great in the actual classes as they are for parties, it will be worth every penny spent and every minute your kids attend. read more

My daughter Joey has literally been here ALL her life, from the time she was in my belly when her older siblings were in coach Al's parent & me classes until she was able to participate herself, she watched them and eagerly waited her time to be on the mat. This is for the toddler class review: I don't like writing bad reviews, but since this involves my little one; I have to do it! This is more like a professional place for gymnastic; for a toddler class as a child specialist let me tell you, this is not worth it! The class is 15 minutes, no music, no props (puppets, bean bags, gym toys); there is one teacher that mostly guide you how to use the gym bouncers or stuffs but, there isn't a lesson plan that follow. Also it seems dirty, 80% of the stuff are dust, the carpet even have spots. This is my just one experience in this place, didn't work for us, this is my very personal experience and point of view. read more

I have been taking my 16-month-old to the tot class for the past couple of months and I don't think there are words to describe how much she loves it and how great it has been for her development. She loves and trusts Coach Al completely. He is such a warm person & so great with kids. In the class, they do stretches, running, an obstacle course of wedges & balance beams, trampolines, uneven bars, dive rolls, and more. The program changes a little bit per week. The class ends with free play with beach balls or balloons and hand stamps. It's always a great time for the kids and adults (who accompany them through everything). My daughter knows how to say "trampoline" now - "Trampoline! Trampoline!" She loves every part of gymnastics class, though! Can't recommend it enough. read more

Joined Winter camp for a few days. Staff was very nice and organized. They did large group activities but also broke the kids into smaller groups for more attention. Gym was clean and large. My three year old daughter loves Junior Gym (and Coach Al, in particular.) The two year old class includes a parent and offers a great balance between socialization and gymnastics, so the kids play with beach balls and balloons as well as the trampoline and rings. The children find Al to be quite amusing and most of the opening circle and stretch time are filled with giggles. My daughter recently "graduated" from the two year old class to the three year olds so I have (unfortunately) been relegated to the sidelines. The three year old class is structured more towards the actual learning of gymnastics so they practice what could charitably be called cartwheels, walk on a (extremely low) balance beam, etc. Apparently, it's still great fun to be in the "big kid" class as my daughter always looks forward to her class with great anticipation. I believe Al has owned this place for twenty or so years. It's certainly not a Yuppie chain gym. It's more old-school and definitely has the feel of a family type operation, which is fine by me. The classes are generally small (3-8 kids) and the children quickly get to know each other. I'm not familiar with the programs for the older children so I can't speak of that but I can confidently and whole-heartedly recommend Junior Gym for the parents of 2-3 year olds. read more

We are so sad to be moving and will not be able to attend Coach Al's toddler classes anymore. We joined when my son turned 2 and were quite disappointed we didn't know about Junior Gym sooner. However, when we did behin attending we ran into many other babies and toddlers from our previous classes from other schools. And we have been to almost every and any class you can think of in LA. This was my sons favorite toddler class so we invited his other friends to attend and they all had a blast. We hope that we will find a gym class my son will enjoy just as much up North. My 7 year old has just recently started at Jr.Gym for the summer camp. We were turned onto it by a friend who has been taking her kids for a while. I was a little nervous, as was she, since it was a new place and she isn't particularly the athletic type. I have to say that after 2 weeks, I have been impressed. My daughter comes home glowing about how much she can do and how much fun she is having. She is stretching more. She raves about how much fun she has and how nice everyone is. I wasn't sure how my 2 boys ages 1.5 and almost 3 would feel about this place but honestly I was pleasantly surprised to see how much they absolutely LOVED it. My 3 year old took off and ran around for the full 45 mins. He was absolutely in love and cried a bit when it was time to leave. My 1.5 year old had just as good of a time playing on the beams and just running around on the soft mats. I had a birthday party for my son here and it was a huge success. The owners and staff were very flexible as I customized the party to add some things I wanted. Junior Gym accommodated everything with grace and style. They were on top of set-up, clean-up and everything came back home that was supposed to. I got confused because they add the tip onto the total for the party so I accidentally over paid but they graciously refunded me. Thanks Junior Gym! And p.s. some gyms smell like feet. Our 5-year-old daughter loves this place. She looks forward to the classes and practices at home. The owners have been very accommodating with questions and work very efficiently with regards to billing and providing credit. For example, we called them and asked if we received a discount for referring a friend. They checked quickly and give us a credit right on the spot. In addition to their regular classes, their camps are good too. Our daughter did the day-long camp this past winter. I worried that she'd be overly fatigued or fussy, but the gym did a great job with mixing up activities and giving kids enough breaks. One time at their camp, my daughter lost her bladder control. They called us and everything was fine with no drama. In sum, this is a very professionally run place. They know how to work with kids and parents. read more

My 3 yr old daughter has been attending Junior Gym for several months now and it is the one activity that she gets super excited about. I love the way the classes are structured, more like "real gymnastics" and not just another play class. I love how they break them in to smaller groups within the large class based on age and teach them how to use all the equipment (bars, balance beams, rings, etc). I started bringing both my kids to the classes at Junior Gym (ages 2 and 4) with coach Al. The kids have a lot of fun while learning basic gymnastics skills as well as listening, following the rules and safety. The gym is a real functioning gymnasium with actual equipment you'd expect to find for the sport. It's not an indoor playroom. So, don't expect that. These are lessons. Coach Al does a great job keeping the kids in an upbeat playful mood while earning their trust and helping students to improve with each class. By the way, the classes are 45 minutes (toddler) which, I believe is the ideal for that age. Both partners Coach Al and Coach Lisa are very nice and no nonsense people, so bonus! read more

My son has only attended two classes so far however. The classes are structured and my son who is autistic love them!!! We have gone to parks before and some coaches can come off very aggressive and u would think they are 20 years olds at the Olympics. However this place is nothing but like a little family. It's not in the best location but the parents and the coaches are well worth it!!! Also, they have a sign up that they help children with the special Olympics which made me feel a huge sense of comfort. Overall love the place.... A little Expensive for me but well worth it!!! I love this gym and so does my daughter Ava (4). She's been taking gymnastics for over a year and loves all the coaches. The gym is old school and has a New York feel to it. Everyone is fabulous and helpful. Al, the owner, goes out of his way to accommodate schedules and to please the parents. The classes teach the kids gymnastics and they add games and other activities that help the kids socialize. Ava has several good friends from her classes. Junior gym- Lyons Gymnastics Academy has been my daughter's "home away from home" for the last 5 years. We have taken a variety of classes here from mommy and me, recreation, fast track all the way up to their team division which requires many hours spent in the gym. I am a teacher & a HUGE "helicopter mom" . I am very cautious, sometimes overly cautious, about leaving my kids with anyone. I wholeheartedly trust the staff here with my children. They genuinely care about the kids and developing their social development as much as their physical development. My daughter (& my older son who comes on occasion) have learned self confidence, perseverance, how to stay dedicated and committed to a craft and have so much fun while doing it. There are several other competitive gyms in the area, and some of those parents have left those gyms to come to LGA because of the different type of coaching style and positive approach. Our coaches believe in pushing the gymnasts according to their own personal goals. If your child has goals to come to gym and have fun, that's what they will do. If your child has goals to compete at a state competition, they will prepare them mentally and physically for that challenge. It is definitely not a place for props and puppets as another reviewer mentioned, but they do have a play room full of toys if that is what your child would prefer to do. They do however, have tons of fun and games that are in line with the art of gymnastics. I also read a review about a Dad who said the owner Al told him he could not stay to watch his child... I am baffled by this. In all the years we have been at junior gym I have spent hours upon hours in those chairs watching my kids. While there are tons of interesting characters in the waiting room (aka parents), it is absolutely allowed to stay and enjoy seeing your child's development. I would never allow my kids anywhere if I was told that I am not allowed to observe. So overall, I highly recommend Junior Gym, LGA & I adore all the coaches! I would not allow my daughter to spend the hours she spends here if I felt there was a hint of anything beyond a positive, nurturing environment. Coach Al and Lisa are what make Junior Gym so special. They are truly amazing with the kids - such wonderful demeanors, the right mix of pushing + nurturing them. My 5-year old daughter has, for some reason, really wanted to do gymnastics but had some anxiety around it. She would tell me she wants to go every week, but then get there and get anxious and upset. I have been so appreciative of how Coach Al and Lisa have had the patience to let her work through it - balancing a little tough love ("There's no crying at gymnastics!") with encouragement, nurturing, and just making it fun. My daughter now loves it, and the confidence she has developed in working through the anxiety is amazing. Coach Al and Lisa handled it perfectly. They're terrific! read more

I've been taking kids here on and off for years as a nanny. It's a wonderful activity and all the kids have thoroughly enjoyed it. It definitely has an industrial feel to it given it's warehouse facilities and location, but I don't feel like that has any bearing on it's quality. The coaches and the rest of the staff are great. I stumbled on Junior Gym's yelp page because I'm now looking for activities for my own son. He's still a little too young for the tumblers class and I was gonna just log out and continue with my day, but saw a review that inspired me to write my own. There's a review about a father being kicked out of the space during a session. This review confuses me because I have never ever ever seen anything remotely like that. There's a waiting room that overlooks the play space. The kiddos come by for water breaks and to sneak in a quick hello to their grown ups a couple times throughout the class. Parents aren't required to stay, but they're certainly ALLOWED to stay since you can watch the class from your seat. I loved reading my kindle and chatting with other parents while watching the kids do their tumbling. I just can't figure out how someone would be kicked out of the waiting area. It doesn't make any sense. That's NOT policy and I have NEVER seen it happen. In my experience I've always felt welcome, if not encouraged, to stick around to cheer on the littles. I wonder if the reviewer is mistaken. read more
