Probably the worst maintained Y in the tri city area. Showers hot in the summer and cold in the winter. Drinking fountain by weight room broken for 6 months, swimsuit spin machine 3 months and Jacuzzi down for a month supposedly due to "waiting on part!" My family went in to take a tour and we were quickly set up by a member staff of membership and enjoyed our tour along with reasonable fees for the a family of 3 and for the month of June no joining fee!! It's a safe environment and I have worked at the Y and enjoying attending classes after long hard days of working and studying.

The Burbank ymca is the best gym membership I have ever had. It offers so much more than just a gym. As a single parent it is wonderful to have a place with a daycare center as well as all the other options for kids. The faculty is always kind and helpful. The environment has a great sense of community with no ego like many places in Los Angeles. This particular ymca is well maintained. Brand new equipment and constantly upgrading. My son and I love coming here and I am a member for life. read more

There's a big sense of community at this YMCA. It's not the biggest or best gym around but there's a lot of good people and pride that goes into this non profit organization. I like what they stand for and how they try to do a lot for kids in the community and outreach programs. This is not a perfect gym by any means. But you can get a great workout and swim here. And they recently renovated and updated their equipment. And their free weight room is pretty good too. It's better than some other YMCA's in the LA area. My only complaint about them is that their hours are kind of limited over the weekend and late night. And parking can be limited too during more crowded hours. But it's a great gym and place to bring your family overall. I recommend it. read more

Wow....this place just plain SUCKS. Worst experience I have EVER had. I have been a member for a few years, and I used to LOVE it. It used to be a great place to work out, with nice people and nice employees (besides the constant naked people walking around for no reason-ew). But now, this place is so bad and made me so angry, I left for 24 HR Fitness. {Look for my review of that ;) } First of all, they are NOT cheap anymore. It's 80 bucks down, and 40 a month. (At 24 HR, it was 60 down, and 30 a month!) They have a sign that says they won't turn anyone away even if they have a problem paying (i.e. homeless, no income, too low income). My brother has a friend who recently got a home and has no income except a grant he gets every now and then. He applied and despite his hardship, turned him down and asked for the full 80 bucks and 40 a month. They really need to take that sign down, obviously. Second, The staff! What the heck happened with their staff??? There are maybe 2 nice staff members left, including the snack bar guy, he's great. But the others are just rude, pompous, and really think that since they work there, they are in charge and we are lucky to have them. For example, let me tell you what they did to us that made us leave- My brother (Autistic) brought his friend I mentioned before (they both took a bus or two to get there) who also has a mental disability, as a guest to the YMCA, which was fine because the staff told us when we signed up that we can bring a guest once a month. Apparently, they had changed this without informing us, because they refused to let his friend in, stating he had already been there twice this year. My mother had to drive over to clear things up since with my brothers autism, he didn't understand what he did wrong. Instead of just informing us of the rule change, and apologizing, and letting it go, the "manager" argued and argued saying it would be favoritism, and that people can come as a guest ONCE a year. My mom told them that it's pointless to argue with my brother because he is Autistic and his response was "Well, he speaks English". Wow. Another staff member had the nerve to butt in while we were talking to the manager saying we were wrong about the rules....duh...OH and even while we were there, a few others had the same problem. And now, if you do not have a card with you, you CANNOT get in (even if they look up your info). So don't lose your card, or you're just screwed. Lastly, they close so early! Weekdays at 10, but the weekends are at 6!! Ridiculous. Anyway, in a nut shell, I am in no way supporting any place that shows no care for disabled or less fortunate people, and even to paying customers, show no respect. My advice? Go to 24 Hr Fitness, you can go anytime, to any facility, for a much cheaper, much more satisfying experience. :) read more

Last week while at the Burbank YMCA I had a very good experience while at the pool that I want to share. I went to the Aquatic office to ask Jennifer the Aquatic supervisor a question. I have come to know Jennifer quite well because I often use the pool. Jennifer has always been helpful and informative, always pleasant to deal with and very caring about members needs. She works diligently every single day, always looking for ways to make our experience there a good one. While there I met a special lady and I mentioned I was struggling with some health issues. Explaining I have had 2 knee surgeries in one year. And that I am working to get my strength back by utilizing the lap pool. As we talked about what I considered my limitations, this lady seemed to know a great deal about my kind of issues. She was very nice. asking me questions and then offering me advice and suggestions to maximize my efforts. I asked her how she knew so much about my kind of health issues and she said she is the full time Water Fitness instructor. I decided to of signing up for one of her specialized one on one classes.try her suggestions. I was thrilled that I was able to do what she suggested at home when I'm unable to get to the YMCA.. Her name is Bonnie Marshall. A few days ago I was able to thank her and tell her I am now doing what she suggested and feeling great about it. This lady is a true gem for the members of the YMCA in Burbank. Wish I had paid more attention to the flyers for classes or asked about the many things the YMCA offers. Nice place to work out - not too busy except rush hour on the week nights, and even then, you can usually find parking if you arrive just as classes are being let out. Plenty of machines and free weights to use, and the kids love taking swim classes here. The staff is very friendly - possibly TOO friendly if you're an attractive girl (luckily, I'm not. Only 5 but not the ymca but for the cardio/ spin class that I came across. I believe her name is Elvas; I come from not using the gym ever never wanted to do the gym and honestly started the membership because it would give me a discount for the classes for my six-year-old daughter I came across her class which works amazing it lifts my breasts my bottom and makes my saggy arms go away one thing that I've noticed is that she is there to motivate you her positive energy is so addicting that you want to continue coming when you are so sore another thing that I've noticed is when you leave the class you feel rejuvenated you feel brand new there's.so many words that I can't explain how you feel so good after her class is done. I've done other classes and I'm never continued or came back and honestly I've canceled my membership because the classes I did not like this lady's class is amazing once again Elva's class is 100% something I strongly recommend.It doesn't matter if you're just starting if your old into working out.I strongly recommend her class so far what I see it's Wednesday at five Fridays at 5:30 and then Friday mornings at 8:30 AM what I love about this class is that you go at your own pace and she keeps motivating you no matter what you feel part of an amazing group and even if you're at your own pace you are still doing amazing if you're looking for something different or to start coming going to the gym I strongly recommend Elva's class. read more

Very limited open swimming time available. It's a community place but whenever we take the kids for a swim, the swimming pools are not available. So Why pay the high monthly membership fee when they are mostly for private lessons, geared for even more profit. Where is the community and family part? Besides, they're dirty. You can't even go to swim on the hot weekend, because they close so early too while it's still hot and great time for families to attend. read more

I frequented this Y as an away member so that I could work out with a good friend of mine who is a regular member. I don't attend anymore. Everything was great until recently when I was told that, instead of checking in at the parking lot entrance with my friend, I had to walk around the block from the parking lot entrance to check in in the front. Initially I was able to check in at the parking lot entrance then later only in front but could get there internally instead of having to walk around the block. Also, the front entrance closes hours before the parking lot entrance which means that I have to wait sometimes 15 minutes for someone to be called to retrieve my away member card that was being held at the then closed front desk. This is because, when closing, they don't bother to transfer away member cards to the rear entrance desk. The last time I checked in, when I simply asked if I could hold onto my card, I was scolded by a very rude staff member who responded in a surly angry tone that the next time it will have to stay at the desk and "that's just the way it is". The above policy is flawed and in my opinion, extremely disrespectful. Either do it right or don't do it at all; meaning that everyone admitted to the Y should be treated as EQUALS whether they are regular members, away members or guests. If not, they should simply discontinue admitting away members. That would be better than treating away members as second class. read more

I was reluctant to make the switch from Crunch to the YMCA. I loved Crunch, but when it came down to it, it wasn't realistic for both my husband and I to have memberships there (to expensive). There were also no classes for kids. We toured the Y with my 7 year old and he said he wanted to make the switch that day. The classes are fabulous (for kids and adults), equipment is up to date and they just have so much to offer. Members get a great discount for swim lessons and they also offer open swim a few times a week. The Stay n Play is super fun for the kids. It's not as pristine as Crunch- more like a community center, but I am A-OK with that. The spin classes at the Y are also WAY better than Crunch Burbank. There is so much to do for the whole family. Leaving this review just because YMCA Burbank giving 15% discount everyone how post a review. Overall a very poor quality gym. I've been with ymca chain over 4 years (Berkeley - Glendale - downtown LA) this is the worse from this list . 1) don't dream abour lap swim here. It's available very few hours daily . Super early when everyone sleep and when everyone on their job. The rest of the time they train high schoolers probably the town pay for it. So forget about the pool 2) you won't find many necessary equipment here. Some machine might be out of order for long (1-3 months). 3) employees working with kids in the play room don't love their work (except one awesome blond lady. She's super nice). 4) when I ask to borrow a jump rope they sometimes ask me to leave my id as a guarantee I bring it back .. very odd 5) most of the people don't know that they need to return weight and rerack their equipment (who cares ?) May be just too many young people who are not familiar with a gym culture ... This gym is in 3 min walking from my home - the only reason I'm still here. I'm moving out of the areas soon tho. I enrolled my grandchildren in swim lessons last year and it was the worst experience and biggest regret. The lifeguards weren't paying attention to the kids in the big pool. The instructor would be working with one child and the other kids just hanging on the edge with no supervision except for parents who are basically locked out of the pool area but looking they a window opening. I complained several times and not one person cared or even pretended to care. After two lessons, they cancelled a class because the instructor had an emergency (her car was broken into) so the next scheduled class and again, it was a nightmare for us "parents" behind a wall watching our kids because the lifeguards weren't there. That was my final straw. I called to cancel our membership, they said I had to go down to do it in person. After going in person, I cancelled on the cut off for the next month and they charged my credit card for one of my grandchildren....even though I cancelled the day before the new month started and it was their system that was slow. This is what the manager explained anyways, he would get my card credited. Two weeks goes by, I called, he said he would get it credited. Another two weeks, same story. A month later, same story. A month later, same story. I pretty much told myself to just forget it. But here I am, a year later, and it really upsets me. The whole YMCA experience! So to anyone considering swim lessons, go somewhere else, even if it costs more. I'm surprised there hasn't been any "accidents" in their pool. I also learned someone else had the same experience with swim lessons. I will never do business with YMCA! read more

This is for the Child Development Center. I was looking for childcare for my two children. I have a 3-year-old and a 15-month-old. I toured many places in the Burbank area. I found the Burbank Community YMCA on the NAEYC accreditation website, and I knew right there that this place was high-quality, and the teachers were going to be the best of the best. I was sadly mistaken. All of the good things I have heard about sending your child to a NAEYC accredited center DO NOT HAPPEN HERE. Sadly the children don't look happy. As I walked around on my tour, I heard teachers yelling at the children. One teacher was constantly on her phone. Then, I saw a group of toddlers outside with one teacher. I counted, there were 10 of them, and the other teacher was inside. According to NAEYC, they have small ratios. I don't think this is even the licensing ratio. The babies looked like they were the same age as my youngest. I spoke to a teacher and I asked basic things like, what is your curriculum? What is the ratio between children and teachers throughout the day? What kind of activities do you do to promote school readiness? She could not tell me. It was like I stumped her. I have been to many other NAEYC accredited centers, and they were all able to answer my questions. I watched a group of children come from outside to go inside, and no one washed their hands. My family will not be enrolling here. I have heard such great things about the YMCA in general but from the looks of things they need to hire someone that understands what it looks like to oversee an NAEYC Accredited Center. Or if they have that person, that person needs to train their teachers better. read more

Love this place! They offer so many programs for people of all ages and free child care! The facility is clean and the staff is courteous and professional. I take my child to YMCA day care when teacher kitty is only there she brings a Joy and vibe for all kids of all ages when you walk in the room 1st the door is open and there's music and children interaction Im so comfortable to work out longer than usual and sometimes my little girl who is2 doesn't feel like leaving yet cause she has so much fun .. other days when she is not there the room is quite , air is still like a walking into a library or stepping foot in a cemetery it spooks me and wish I was able to enjoy my workout usually I can't stop thinking how uncomfortable my child is so I leave my workout and go get my little girl .. Love all of the group exercise classes. Love the teachers: Jody, Karen and Roxanne are the best. Roxanne's step class is my favorite. I'm a dialysis patient and disabled, and I was a member at this YMCA three years ago. When I moved out of Burbank I canceled my membership, but I recently moved back and wanted to renew it. Having no water in my new house, I went in to renew my membership, and hopefully take a shower, and a swim to cool off..They took one look at me and refused to give me my membership.. They wouldn't even give me a form.. The head woman was called to the desk, and with a snide politeness, suggested the shelter for "someone like me" I told her my situation, that I was disabled and that I had a previous membership, but she refused to even allow me to fill out a form. I was outraged!!! this is the YMCA????? I was willing to pay for my membership, I'm a home owner and have a job for crying out loud.. And yet I was turned away because they didn't like how I looked... I tried to complain, but there's no one to complain to.. there's no numbers to call, no one to lodge a complaint with... I've also noticed that the Burbank YMCA has changed the signage out front to "The Y" I suppose they're building a Gym for beautiful people, and older disabled people like myself have no place in their new order. We have been members for 6 years and I must say it was amazing and then there was a regime change and the attitude of the staff reflects the cold non caring demeanor of the new Ceo JC Holt I believe is his name! He walks through the halls as if he is above the members and barely wants to speak. The loving atmosphere is all gone. If it were not the cafe guy Brandon, Jeremy the weight room guy and the nice instructors I would have left still thinking about it parking is horrible. Oh the daycare ladies are sweet too!!! I am appalled by the attitude of the leadership!! It has gone down and the machines are new but they don't have the stuff you really need (step machine hack squat etc...)! I say try the new crunch and 24 hour fitness first!!!! I may just stay around for the classes for my child and then get a second membership!!!!!!!! read more

This review is for their annual Turkey Trot 5k, 10k run/walk on Turkey Day. I've gone to this event the past two years and have been amazed each year. This race is big, well organized and challenging. These factors are key to a big run like this. This ymca is the dirtiest place. I filed a complaint with the Los Angeles County Health Department on August 31, 2016. the next day I went and quit in writing. They claim to have not gotten my resignation and charged my credit card on September 10 and again on october 10 $48.00. Besides being dirty, they are now thieves. They stole $96 from me. I filed a fraud claim with American Express . Go to Crunch. For 10 dollars more, it is clean and beautiful and doesn't have all the parking problems the Y has. I never gave a dime during fund raising because of all the discounted memberships they give to people that vacation in Eurooe every summer. read more

It's 2:00AM and can't sleep because I was in the YMCA jacuzzi around 6:00 o'clock. Way too much chlorine and this is dangerous. Yes, chlorine kills bacteria. But, how much?? My eyes are burning like a fire, what's wrong with these people. There was a another guy he couldn't stop sneezing, because of chemical. This is a reason the place is almost/always empty. It used to be better, I miss that one guy, the trainer that used to work there. Gary? Joey? Something like that, he was great and set me up on fitlinxx. The guy at the juicebar is really friendly and good w/kids. But the locker room stories....creepy. Here are some doozies I have heard over the years from employees...... 1.) One of the girls giving tours was friends with an older lady and went into the young girls locker room to show a mom and her daughter the facility. So the older lady that she knew was standing there butt naked and gave her a hug. WTF? 2.) The old men in the locker room would play pool when there had the pool table in there....and for some reason they would only wear a t-shirt. 3.) One guy in the steamroom would shove a hose up his butt and he died shortly thereafterward. 4.) Once a hairy middleaged guy decided to walk to the hot tub...The lifeguard had to confront him....to tell him to put on some clothes. His reply: "But it's a public pool." Lifeguard: "That's the point." 5.) One girl who was closing up found an older asian lady in the sauna....enjoying herself a little too much. Nuff said. Enjoy the Y! I have been coming here for like 3 years. I think this is a great gym if you like a place to work out that is not at all intimidating. -Their spin program is amazing. Try out the classes with Amanda, Jenn B. or Rick. I took some classes at some other gyms and it wasn't as fun. -I used to do the Boxing classes here and I loved them. Coach Steve is one of the best instructors in Burbank for children and teens. (I'm not a teen boy but whatever) I've seen him work miracles with some unfit teens. -Finally Karen is this instructor who teaches their sculpting/weights classes and she is awesome. She works you hard and is really good about offering exercise modifications for every fitness level. I can't say that about most places I go. She really is one of the best fitness instructors I have had the chance to take a class with. I know this because you want to hate her for putting you through pain but you can't. You just can't. This place isn't really packed but its atmosphere is really low key supportive. There are a lot of kids running around and elderly people. I support this place. read more

I have to say that this is the second year that i have brought my son to the Burbank YMCA to play on the Basketball team. Al of the coaches are amazing, the kids have such a great time while learning and the gym is absolutely beautiful. I would definitely recommend this YMCA to any family. read more

My husband and I joined the Burbank Y when we moved here and have been regulars ever since. The staff are friendly and helpful. The ActivTrax exercise program is awesome - I've never stuck with my exercise regimen this well before - it keeps my workouts interesting and challenging. I haven't tried any of the classes yet, but plan to soon. I wanted a gym that was close by, well maintained, and NOT intimidating for a middle aged, nonathletic person who just wants to stay healthy. We love the Y! It is an amazingly friendly place, great for a gym-hater like me. The members are a mix of the community, friendly and down-to-earth. The staff always smile and say hello, and they are wonderful with our two-year-old - they give him stickers and high-fives and make him feel like he's a special part of the community. Good programs especially for the kids. My children have been here for a looong time. Their summer camp is also awesome. New policy on membership. $80 a month for the whole family -- so now I am taking their Boxing Class with Instructor Steve. This is a 2 1/2/ hours class every MWF. So glad to report that I did not throw up the first class and kept coming back for more. Just need to be patient with the class - mostly the opposite gender, hard to understand sometimes - but I figure- just gotta stick with it . read more
