Boot Camp will have you feeling super sore because she incorporates cardio with strength training. So you work different muscles of your body. Highly recommend!! read more

I barely ever write reviews, let alone bad ones, but this needs to be done for all future families considering this facility. Don't. 1. Not only is the family room/pool area disgusting and dirty (the same band aid was there for at least 2 weeks that i saw, it may still be there for all i know, down by the stairs going to the pool area out of the family change area. For gods sake, please clean it up.), but also.... the staff... 2. ...is uniquely unqualified. I took a parent and me class with our little boy and this teacher repeated on several occasions "now lets sing some STUPID kid songs, parent participation required." As a mom of a 2 year old, i sing kid songs daily, non-stop, they are not "stupid" nor should that language ever be used in a class full of CHILDREN. So not only was that language used, the teacher didn't teach us a thing. It was like paying for a class with no class. We could have just used the pool facility instead. Her supervisor at one point finally joined the class to "re-train" but i'm sorry... this is not the right teacher for a parent and me class. 3. Finally lets talk membership. You need to pay for a month membership and then you can apply for swim classes at the member rate (because if you don't have a member rate, the non member price is almost 3 times the price of the membership anyway). So you buy the $99 family membership then apply for swim classes. For my daughter, they filled up in 3 minutes. Gone. So now we have a family membership for swim classes with NO swim class. 4. THE BEST ONE... and this is really what brought me to this review. I was told by the instructor to just wait to see if a spot opens up as we were placed on a wait list. So we waited... and waited. already the 30th of the month and the next month membership is about to be billed So i asked staff again, what should we do? they said just wait, a spot will surely open up. 31st i ask the swim director and she says no very unlikely any swim classes ever open up. This has not happened in the several years she's worked there. So we immediately go to the front desk and tell them to please cancel our membership. No. We explain that we were told to wait. No. Finally after several back and forth they say they will put our "refund request" through. Nearly 2 weeks later no refund request. I called the facility and the director Steven says your refund request was denied. WHAT?! by who, why? By our review team. I ask aren't you the director? who is the review team? He says, yes i'm one of them and your request was denied. So i proceed to tell him that not only did you not refund us and not tell us, it's now mid month and turns out we actually could have tried to at least attempt to use your facility but assumed our membership was canceled so naturally we didn't go. He says, your membership was canceled but we cannot issue refund. I have no words only that if you decide to go, please do so at your own risk. read more

I really enjoyed this YMCA - until my recent dealings. I suspended my membership for as long as possible at the beginning of the pandemic - not knowing what was going to happen with COVID and not wanting to be in a gym with people breathing super heavily. Unknown to me, the gym reopened outdoors in February- they didn't do a good job informing customers - the email ended up in my spam folder. Not to mention all of the conflicting city and county information about what was open and closed. You would hope that they would be understanding, given that things were opening and then closing down in Los Angeles county. They've been charging me all year for a membership I thought was suspended. When I tried to reach out to their membership services they were very defensive and callous. Not at all what I expected from ymca. I recommend you avoid the Burbank YMCA. read more

I am appalled with the service here. My step son joined the Y back in spring to play after school with his friends. After a few months, they lost interest and he hasn't been to the Y in over 5 months. About 3 months ago, I asked him to call and cancel his membership since he wasn't using it. When he called, he was told a parent had to cancel for him. My husband contacted them via phone and we were told that we HAD TO GO IN PERSON! He couldn't believe in 2019 such a policy existed. He asked to talk to someone in management as due to our insane work schedule which we cannot avoid, he can't physically go in. He left a message SEVERAL times with full details for the point of his call, his concern and his request to simply allow him to cancel the membership. NO ONE called us back. At this point, they keep charging our account for a membership we don't use and deliberately making it hard to cancel so they can keep stealing from us. We are still having trouble finding the time to get down there and handle this, and it's absolutely disgusting that they expect us to do that. Why can't you just let us cancel over the phone? Let's not talk about the amount of money they've STOLEN from us because of this policy. We are contemplating legal counsel, for the sake of future members who deserve to have the right to cancel without having to go through so much trouble. This is rude, inconsiderate and absolutely insane. Last note: my step son was a member of the Glendale Y before we moved to Burbank and had to switch. This place do not answer any phone calls at all staff are extremely rude and unprofessional We are going to file a lawsuit against her for insulting us and " defame of character " in Burbank municipal court as she abused her little authority and not complying with our legal request. read more

The workout facilities are decent. Swimming lessons are great, though competitive to book a spot, which can be a stress. Showcase Basketball, offering camps and ongoing seasons, is really awesome for kids, with a fantastic coaching staff under Coach Jeff (you don't strictly need to be a Y member to attend). The most valuable feature for us, though, by far, is the Stay N Play, where my wife and I can drop off the kids to be taken care of while we attend a yoga class or similar. Miss Kitty, who runs the Stay N Play, is an absolute Saint and we feel very fortunate that our kids are regularly under her care while we get a moment to ourselves to exercise. read more

I've been going to this gym for over a decade and love that they're constantly working to keep the facility updated! There are a lot of group classes to take with instructors who are good at keeping you motivated and excited to work out. I take mostly the cycling classes (available every weekday if you can make it!) and especially love that it's one of the only gyms with a pool. Every once in a while I'll take a Zumba or yoga class, but I'm really there for their cardio machines. There's an app you can download to keep you on track with your goals - super helpful! Staff members are very friendly and always willing to stop and help you with any concerns, and there are personal trainers available as well. Workout machines are well maintained and anything broken I've ever seen has always been fixed quickly. Great place to bring your family for good, healthy exercise! read more

After being a member and supporter of this Burbank YMCA for many, many years, I find it heartbreaking to write this review. A once-fully functioning and well-kept facility has been reduced to a mere shell of its former self by abysmal administrative decisions in the last few years. This reality is unavoidable. There was a mass exodus of members when older, better-made gym equipment was replaced with shoddy new equipment purchased by someone who clearly had no exercise experience or purchasing acumen. Next, without prior notification or consent, bank accounts and credit cards were debited for increased membership fees and reclamation of these funds was made difficult or impossible by staff. Never again will I allow my credit card or checking account to be tethered to a gym. I had hoped the YMCA would be above such deceitful practices, but clearly, I was wrong. There was a time when this facility was the premier gym in Burbank. It provided a welcoming atmosphere to the full spectrum of gym-goers and was a pillar of the community. Now, it's a ghost facility with a skeleton crew in attendance and a totally unwelcoming atmosphere. An administrative re-think would be both advisable and necessary. read more

To the staff working the front entrance on a Sunday afternoon (Sunday May 19th at 1:30) yeah- this shift- How sad that an establishment centered on FAMILY creates such a disrespectful greeting to me and my children. With the initial refusal to let us "in" as a result of being Glendale YMCA members- then furthering harassment as to why MY kids were NOT allowed in. Hey - I get it - I may not look old enough to have two kids.... but there was no reason to discriminate me and treat me as if I was showing up to cause a ruckus. It wasn't your place to tell me how Glendale is breaking rules by allowing me to bring children under the age of 16. I've been going to the Y since I was a small kid. Although I'm not from LA, the Burbank Y has provided a community so strong and welcoming that I feel like with every check in, I'm home. I have anxiety about trying new things, working out in public places and generally looking silly in front of strangers. The y has done everything to turn that around. I've tried an array of classes and always feel myself warming up and truly enjoying myself and the moment. I moved here about 7 months ago and I look forward to the welcoming staff, exciting and diverse selection of classes, and the generally lively / freeing aspect of achieving my fitness goals in a place that is so invested in the wellbeing of its members. On a side note, they have a ton of cardio equipment so you're never waiting around for someone to finish. I often like to do personal workouts with my own resistance bands, etc. and there's room for me in two of the main group exercise rooms when classes aren't in session, or in the cardio room when there are classes. There's spin bikes in the studio and in the cardio room so if you're looking to do your own thing or take a class, there are always accommodations for what you need. The Burbank Y is an excellent place and it's worth checking out!!!!!! read more

Not only that, but every staff member he saw, he greeted them and said hello. Fantastic employee and I wanted to make sure he received some recognition. I have not been to this YMCA since I was 13 and from what I saw on the tour today, the facilities all looked clean and well kept. Everything in the weight room was brand new. I received a one month free pass for their February special. The prices are very reasonable for when I decide to sign up. I've been a member for about ten years now. The group classes are fun and motivating. The cardio room and circuit training room are well up to date, spacious and clean. This review is specifically for Mary, who teaches the Kundalini Yoga class at the Burbank Y. She is AMAZING. Her class was my first exposure to Kundalini Yoga and I absolutely fell in love. She has an aura about her that brings peace and comfort anytime you step into her class. Her classes are all designed with a lesson in mind--not a random hour and half of yoga. I've never felt anything aside from pure bliss and happiness leaving her class. She incorporates teachings of life with each class, has amazing music to accompany the class and gives you a nice explanation of the practice. It may take one or two sessions to catch on, everyone who attends the class is also super friendly. Unfortunately, I've moved and am not able to attend her classes on a regular basis, but when I am in town I definitely make sure to attend. I wish she had more class availability at the Y! read more

I've been a member for years, and I used to LOVE it like it was my second home. Up until, well this year. The parking situation....something has to be done and changed. It's literally what I spent 30 minutes on -_- The classes though and instructors are pretty awesome. The gym and weight room though um, not so much. The staff is friendly and attentive, that's about it though. Playing ball is always fun, I like the weight room...but the people suck. CLEAN UP AFTER YOURSELVES grrrrrrrr. Besides the pet peeves, and no one paying attention to gym etiquette it's okay. I might switch over to an actual more legit gym, who knows. My daughter has been coming to this YMCA for the ballet and swim classes. Swimming since she was 6 months old, ballet since two years old. She graduated from the parent tot lessons and is almost going to graduate from the Tiny Tots (ages 3-5yrs). Because of the wonderful staff they have I feel confident with my daughter's ability to swim. They told me she can continue classes then hopeful compete in meets. Something that gives me much joy because I used too.They are so nice and patient with the children. They also give you monthly reports on the strengths and weaknesses of your child. I am really considering more one-on-one training for her. There training pool is just perfect size and I love that they have a 5 to 1 ratio per class. Quick tip: if you are interested in the class, register two weeks before so you have a space available. read more

A-OK. The spin room is a little out of the way but they have a wide array of classes, pool, gym supplies and weight room. Some issues: The pool can get over run with youth who are NOT doing laps and the life guard people don't curb those issues The pool lap lanes will get taken over by extremely rude old ladies who hog the whole lane. Not cool, ladies, not cool. There is no air conditioning which makes the cardio room brutal. It's for that final reason I cancelled my membership, but I really support what the Y does and the services it provides. read more

This five star review is for the Child Development Center. I just can't say enough about how grateful I am they have been open since May 2020. They have been very careful in following state and local COVID protocols. This has allowed my child to interact with other children safely and has allowed me to return to work. After five months since we withdrew our daughter from this school, my husband and I look back and know that we've made the right decision. No longer does she come home with an incident report that a heavy, plastic crate fell on her head because it was not properly stowed by one of the caretakers or she tripped on a mat and bumped her head on the metal grill because a mat was careless left out in the play area or she has bite marks all over her from other children. Instead, she is happy, healthy, active, and shows early signs of giftedness. At her new school, the teachers teach her based on her interests and level of understanding, not her age. At the Y, she would have been unchallenged by their two year old curriculum and, based on the persistence of the director, she would have been "stuck" there for another eight months, like a sort of preschool purgatory. read more

Been coming to the Y for yeeeears and I love this place. It's become my second home. I was never a big gym rat but the classes the Y has available and the staff are so nice, the reason i've been coming here for 4 years :) When there are no classes I want to take I head upstairs to either the cardio room or the strength room. Great variety of machines to target any area on your body. I love that they're non-profit and have events like the Turkey Trot or Zumba-thon to raise money. I wish they'd use the money to buy new speakers in the main club room or weights though, I swear there's an uneven number of 12 pound weights which is kind of annoying, but I don't care enough to stop taking the classes. Facility is always clean, staff is super friendly, they know you by name and take the time to ask how your day was. Can't say enough great things about this Y, they really helped me turn my life around and I am a much happier, healthier person for it. read more

I started going to this gym in January 2018 and it's nothing like the other gyms I've been to. First of, the YMCA offers so much more than a regular gym and at a reasonable price. I like how this place doesn't get crowded and it definitely has a "we don't judge" kinda vibe. As a girl, going to gums might be uneasy at times, but here I can concentrate on my workouts without having to worry about anyone judging me. I do wish that the gym itself was structured in a cohesive fashion. It's a bit annoying to have to go up and down stairs to go from the cardio room to the weight room as well as switching back and forth from 2 different weight rooms. They offer lots of aquatics classes (which is the main reason why I joined). So far I've only done lap swim but it's great. The pool is always clean and never crowded and there's always a lifeguard on duty. One thing I hope they'd do is renovate the bathrooms and locker rooms. I used to come here back in 2002 and it seems like nothing has changed. Bathrooms and locker rooms are old but they do the job. Overall, this is a great facility and I know this place will help me achieve my fitness goals for 2018. read more

Swim team review. Coach and team manager are excellent. Indoor pool. Separate Girls and boys locker rooms for kids 13 and under. Fees include the swim team fee (M, W or T, TH 2x/week, 1.25 hrs a session), a monthly meet fee ($40) from Sept-Feb. Additional fees include competition swim cap ($5), kid tshirt ($10). Other parents recommended this because previously kids could make up a missed session by going on a different day. This isn't permitted anymore. Because of the increased meet fees, parents are considering the Burbank Parks and Rec swim team (Starts 9/11, 8 weeks for $120, T, Th 4-5pm. Pool unheated) Most swimmers leave at 15 years old to join high school swim teams because of the cost. read more

When I went there in person several times to cancel my membership, they would tell me it can't be done in person and that I would have to call. Whenever I called, the person would transfer me to a membership dept that never picks up or whoever answers tells me I would have to come in person to cancel, but as you see, going in person never works. It seems like a ploy to delay your cancellation as long as possible. Now, I will have to write a letter to cancel it since no one there seems to want to (or knows how to) cancel it and report it as an unauthorized charge on my credit card. I literally dread going here as the day housekeeper has been literally TERRORIZING me. When she's not throwing tantrums in the Women's Locker room slamming and banging everything she's stalking me in the women's shower area while I shower. Today she creeped in the showers while I was in there and loitered in a shower stall waiting for me to finish. When I finished showering she poured bleach in my shower ONLY. After I dried off I noticed no other shower stalls had been bleached, only mine. She seems to have some sort of strange fixation with me as the second I get in the bldg she runs to the Women's locker room to stalk me. Management told me if I didn't like it to come in at the crack of dawn before she gets there. read more

I recently joined the Burbank Community YMCA. The staff are nice, friendly. But since I joined, there have been frustrations with plumbing issues in the women's gym, staff not answering the phone in the evening during business hours, and so forth. Thankfully, the plumbing issues have been addressed. They redid the women's locker room. I was in there this evening to get into the jacuzzi. It looked very nice. They rearranged the locker room so when the hall entry door was opened you wouldn't be seen in your birthday suit anytime the door was opened! But I digress. Well, I joined up last fall. At that time, they had a different schedule. And then they closed down the locker room and jacuzzi for extensive repairs and remodeling. That wasn't available until three days ago. It's now mid January. So you'd think that between last year and now, someone there might have thought about bringing the staff up to speed on the change of hours. What happened? Well, this evening I wanted to get into the Jacuzzi after I got home from errands. I CALLED THE FACILITY BEFORE GOING! I asked the woman at the facility what time does the jacuzzi close? I asked this earlier in the evening, maybe 6 pm. She says the pool and the jacuzzi are open until 10 pm. Well, boys and girls, that was true when I joined the gym last fall. Since then, someone there decided to shorten the hours of the pool and jacuzzi. Now, apparently, they close at 9:30 pm! There is nothing more infuriating to get in the car and drive across the city to get to a location, get changed and when you get to the destination, find the door to the pool deck locked and no employee in sight! I was so angry I marched right out to the front desk in my bathrobe and demanded to be admitted to the jacuzzi. The kid at the desk stared at me and then said, oh, they close about 9:40 or so. That's when I told him what their own staffer told me over the phone. So he gets up and brings me a shiny new pool schedule effective January to April of this year and points out time change. Well, a lot of good that is going to do me right then! And then he says it's online too. Gee, that's nice, but that has nothing to do with the fact that their own staff is too incompetent to be trusted to deliver accurate information TO A PAYING MEMBER! At that time, I demanded to speak to a manager. He called somebody and they showed about five minutes later. He was very polite, but he could not let me into the jacuzzi because there were no lifeguards on duty at that time. Oh seriously? Translation: We don't want the legal liability if you pass out or something. For ten minutes??? Nope. At that point I identified the woman who answered the phone and gave him a description of what she sounded like, aided by the fact that I have spoked to this woman before and she has a distinct accent. He knew exactly who I was referring to. All he could say was we gave her the information, we don't know why she would do that? I said If she DIDN'T do that, do you think I would bother to drive across town late in the evening just for the fun of being locked out of the jacuzzi??? It's the disease of what I call "I don't know that I don't know that I don't know". Why would I think that I need to go online IN ADDITION to getting what I think is a correct answer from a staffer? I do NOT like second guessing people! This is not my responsibility! I don't have the time, money and energy to have it wasted like this! As a member of the YMCA, I expect a competent answer from an employee. I then asked him if this is the standard here, can I trust anything I ask a staff member about to be accurate? At that point, he said, well, just call and ask for a manager. Wow. Really? So the only people I can count on for accuracy is management and nobody else here can be trusted? I think this last sentence says it all. If you decide to join the YMCA, know that you are allowed to go to other facilities. I've been going all the way up to the La Canada facility and it's wonderful! The only reason I went back to Burbank is the location and in the huge jacuzzi I have room to walk around in. The temperature is perfect, or at least, it WAS. I have no idea if it's now hot enough to boil a lobster, in which case, that leaves me OUT. La Canada has a TINY oval jacuzzi and all you can do is sit there. Anyway, I've said my piece. In wrapping this up, know that you can't depend on people to know what they are talking about anymore. Very sad state of affairs and it seems to be true EVERYWHERE. Watch your back and do your homework, if you value your time and energy. read more

I joined the Y roughly six months ago. Have to admit, the classes are great, motivating, and give you enough of a push to move you to the next fitness level. I, for one, appreciate that. Although, still a big fan of pilates; the Y has opened up so many other fun workouts. I plan to stick around while we still live in Burbank. read more

I've been coming to this gym for few months now. They just got new equipment for their cardio room. Brand new Treadmills, ellipticals, recumbent bikes, upright bikes, and many more. They also added new equipment for their strength room. New cycling bikes as well for the cycling classes. I really like their classes that they offer. the teachers are very informative and love what they do. This gym is rarely crowded, mostly on Mondays and Tuesday's. I only wish they could add a steam room for women. But overall I like coming here. read more
