We stopped in this cute little place on our way back from the restroom and a boy and my glad we did. The pastries caught my eye from outside. They had fresh foods, pantry staples, all sorts of pasta, dried, packaged and ready to purchase as well as imported Italian beverages, sauces and bagged coffee. Mom and pop Italian market that served me the best pasta I've ever had today. The lemon pesto knots with the cream of parmesan were actually a religious experience. Decided to get one to try out before going back for more. OMG! The spinach quiche was delicious. Not greasy, cheesy nor heavy. In fact, it was light and fluffy. Perfect size to be shared by two people. The only drawback was that it was warm by the time we walked out to look for table and chairs. The packaged selections in the store seem well priced and great variety. I have been happy with the dry pasta I purchased from them. Today was a disappointment at their "pasta bar". They had very limited selection of pasta types. The tagliatelle marinara is what I ordered. It was cooked fresh in front of me. It had great texture, cooked very well with a beautiful looking marinara. It was so salty I could not eat it and Imlove salty food. It seemed the pasta was the super salty part if that is possible. Hard to tell. I wouldn't have minded paying the $14.95 if it was edible. I liked the serving size. I'm sorry to leave a negative review but if craving pasta - go to the upstairs Italian restaurant. Secret pasta bar alert! Yeah, I read that Grubstreet article, and this place lived up to the hype. I had the porcini ravioli with butter parmigiano sauce and orchiette with pesto sauce; both great but choose the ravioli if you can only get one. I also had a slice of pistachio cake from their bakery case in the front that was incredible. Never had anything like it. Really love this market. It's located close to my apartment so it's easy for me to stop buy and pick up ingredients. Recently, I purchased two packs of fresh ravioli (flash frozen, meat and one plain), tomato basil sauce (fresh) and a nice chunk of parmesan. They also have a very large selection of dried pastas, antipasto, deli and cheeses/breads. The sauce was one of a kind, it had so much flavor and good texture to a rather simple ravioli. I was a bit disappointed with the fresh ravioli, the flavor was lacking and it didn't cook as al dente as I would've liked. No instructions on the packaging so I had to figure that out for myself. I will definitely be back to try other fresh pastas and pick up another jar of sauce. This place isn't cheap, but the convenience and the taste outweigh going to Trader Joe's or Whole Foods for your items. read more

I still absolutely love this store! We have discovered their burrata and it is second to none! Delicious, creamy and fresh! It didn't need any olive oil or sea salt. It was delicious on its own. Their coffees and olive oils are terrific. Their marzipan is super fresh and tasty. The fresh pasta is also delicious. The prepared food is also delicious. I had the milano sandwich (mainly because I love Alyssa Milano!) which was a chicken cutlet with roasted veggies. It was very good, although when they put it in the press, they could have heated it up a little more. But it was tasty. The bruschetta looked amazing and I'll get that next time. The products sold by this store are great, but the checkout experience is made exasperating by the frequently made claim that "the Internet is down", & that credit card purchases aren't possible. Most of the time I can operate the card reader myself and complete the transaction, but sometimes the cashier persists in asking for cash. I shop at this store two or three times a month and this has happened nearly every time I visit, especially since the store moved downstairs a couple of years ago. UNACCEPTABLE SERVICE: I truly wanted to give this company a chance, as I love to shop for authentic Italian products. I googled for a fiori extract and this company popped up, so I ordered from them on their direct website to make a special Italian torte for Christmas. Folks this company, regardless of good reviews, is a SCAM, and I reported them to the BBB. What happened : It took almost two weeks to finally receive the product, one of which was just to pack it and ship it. That was ridiculous. Out of the box it was wrapped in so thick a bubble wrap, and so tightly with boxing tape all around it, that although I carefully snipped the tape with scissors, suddenly the bubble wrap exploded and sprung the bottle out onto the floor, shattering it completely. It's ridiculous, but true: I was furious, as it was completely unnecessary to wrap it in such a fashion. Regardless, I emailed the customer service representative, ANTONIO M and explained the situation in a civil email; he is the ONLY one to talk to. He said If I sent over a picture that they could immediately file a claim AND RESHIP THE ORDER THAT DAY. I did have a picture, as I had a feeling beforehand to have the proof, and I sent it to him. I never received a response back and no bottle. I sent another email: NO RESPONSE. Get this: I called ANTONIO M directly, and the entire *short* conversation he literally was just saying stuff to get me off the phone, and was constantly abrupt; nothing made sense: he had to file a claim with UPS as it wasn't their fault, though he admitted in the email in that was how BUON ITALIA packaged things. He promised he would get back to me immediately and wanted to hang up; I asked if the product was packaged by UPS or in-house and he said "it's in house." I asked why they couldn't accept fault, and he literally said "well... uh!... it's just protocol... I'll file it and let you know. I'll send an email." What?? Ok... Never heard back again. Sent another email a week later; nothing. Folks it has been over a month and I contacted UPS today, and the incident was actually never filed with UPS, according to my tracking number and the Buon Italia account. The bottle was 10 bucks, and 11 for shipping: you can't resend a lousy bottle to those of us of whom spent the little we had and are really struggling during covid, all to just have something special for the holidays?? It was a waste of money, and all you cared about was profit. Obviously they don't give a care about new potential customers. Total scam. read more

I had some reservations about ordering from a small business that I had found through a TripAdvisor forum; however, I needn't have worried. When Fedex lost my package, I called Buon'Italia to inform them of the mishap. The gentleman who answered the phone was very polite and reassuring, and he promised to bring my issue to the attention of his manager. Within a day, I received a notice that they had sent a replacement package, which arrived at its destination. I have yet to hear from the package's recipient as to the quality of the candied chestnuts; however, I was extremely pleased with the prompt and fuss-free way in which Buon'Italia handled the problem. I'll try to visit them in person the next time I'm in NYC. Update: My friend finally tried the chestnuts, and she was thrilled! I drop by mostly to get Italian tuna in a jar or can. I don't know what makes so different but Italian tuna is delicious, perfect pairing for Salad Niçoise or drop some in a miso soup, yum! Anchovies in a jar is another must item. Especially salted ones. It's nostalgic to my childhood memory although my subtropical small island was in Pacific Ocean and we often eat with a seasoning-thirst tofu. On top of it, drizzle EVOO and Italian herbs to round the flavor and make East meets West salad(?). I also get Parmigiano Reggiano 24 Month, or 36 Month if they have. Those cheese makes every dish I make taste better. I bought Reggio Emilia butter. The butter was made from Parmigiano cows(?), marked under the butters in a fridge case on the wall. There was a long line to order food, but the service was very efficient that I didn't have to wait long. I got a slice of margarita pizza. The staff put it in a oven to reheat. She wrapped my pizza and hand it to me. My pizza was very big and fresh. I usually don't eat pizza because it gets soggy very quickly, and it doesn't taste good once it gets cold in my opinion. My pizza was flavorful and warm. I wanted to be warmer, but it was still good. Other food looked tasty too. The staff was nice, and the service was great. As pretty much everything in Chelsea Market, this place gets a full five stars. The space is open and easy to navigate, and the selection is uniformly tempting. It's a great specialty store, without any air of hauteur, boasting all manner of cheeses, nuts, chocolates, and Italian goodies. Our visit was around Easter and we marveled at the biggest chocolate Easter egg I've ever seen. I bought a container of Marcona almonds for future snacking, and they were superb. This place is great for browsing, and I'd go back for those nuts or to sample the other myriad wares. read more

I got the Roma Panini for lunch today. It's a roast pork and broccoli rabe on a ciabatta bread. Now, slap me silly I'm wrong but I thought paninis were supposed to be warm, if not toasted/grilled. Mine was cold. The broccoli rabe had too much olive oil drizzled on it, on top of the olive oil drizzled on the ciabatta (which was not bad). It also had a lot of salt on it too, which didn't help because the roast pork was already salty. It was difficult to consume, but considering I spent $12, I forced myself. Hands-down the best place to get Italian groceries and specialty items anywhere in the city. Everything they import is directly from Italy and def of higher-quality. The pasta is really good and the meats and cheeses they offer are excellent. They have a great collection of olive oil's, nuts, and Italian desserts, to name a few. So I paid $7.08 for this. -The bread was overtoasted to the point where it was hard -The chicken was bland and flavorless and dry too. They were here before Eataly, but without being a fancy soulless overpriced tourist trap! They're a mom and pop store that's much more reasonably priced. They have the best fresh pasta, handmade burrata (try to buy this on the day they make it), and cold cuts. This is the real deal. Also they have White Truffle Festival in the fall where they have a special menu of truffle centric dishes. Their black truffles are also very reasonable priced compared to other places. They have delicious cheeses like smoked scarmoza and straciatella. Trying chatting up the Italian guys behind the cold cut counter for great recommendations like their Salami Milano and Finnichiona.
