For my money, this the best Italian beef sandwich in town. My order: 7" Italian beef with hot giardiniera, no sides, water - dining in Highlights: -the beef is flavorful and juicy -the bread is airy and slightly chewy. It survived the entire meal without disintegrating. -the atmosphere is modern if not a bit cold which moves people in and out of the restaurant quickly, but you don't feel bad sitting at their tables -the service was fast. My sandwich was ready before I even sat down from getting my water -hot giardiniera really packs a punch -sandwich is served wrapped in paper, but open on one end. I like this to help with eating the sandwich so it doesn't fall apart too soon. -sandwich served on a real plate! Not my favorite: -while I liked the flavor and crunch of the hot giardiniera, it was just a tad hotter than what I'm used to. Some will find it awesome, but for me just a bit too hot. That said, I'd probably get it again. What I'm looking for in an Italian beef sandwich is that delicate balance of roll, beef and gravy that makes for a wet, not soggy sandwich. Too much meat and the thing falls apart. Too much gravy and you lose the good textures of the roll. Too much bread (not enough beef & gravy) and there's too much pull. I want something that falls apart in your mouth and not in your hand. I love it when the sandwich is accompanied by a spicy, and crunchy giardiniera that compliments the other flavors without stealing the show. Buona Beef seems to have this formula down. I have an app to order food I've been a customer of BuonaBeef for eight years. Tonight I ordered a protein bowl and a pizza on the app and waited over 30 minutes without anybody bringing my food after I told them I was here. I called from my cell phone and told the girl that answered the phone I've been waiting for over 30 minutes her words were it has not been that long and hung up on me. I was livid and talk to the manager gave me my food in a bag which was probably sitting for 30 minutes and some free passes didn't really want to hear my story. This place is new and my Second time here . They have many great gluten free options and they're really tasty and very decently priced. My daughter had the Italian beef on GF bread and I had the pizza on GF crust . I would've liked it a bit crispier. I asked for it well done and it was still too soft --but still yummy . I'll just be a bit more descriptive the next time I order. Everyone there was extremely helpful and kind. The only negative I have has nothing to do with the people, place or food--it's their app that holds the rewards program. In a nutshell, it sucks!! I spent a 1/2 hour there on their iPad trying to complete my registration. It kept erroring out--for no reason. Even the manager took time to help me with this as well. Finally I successfully completed the process and all looked good . (After being forced to reset my password TWICE). My family and I have been huge fans of Buona Beef since the early 90's when we lived on the northwest side of Chicago and used to frequent the North Avenue and Harlem location. Then we moved out to Algonquin and often stopped at the Hoffman Estates location when exiting I-90 at Barrington Road. We were so thrilled when we learned that Buona was opening a location in Algonquin! My husband and I have been to Buona Beef locations dozens of times over the years and can't vouch for anything other than the Italian beef sandwiches or beef/Italian sausage combo sandwiches--only because we haven't tried anything else. We love their beef/sausage sandwiches so much. Both are terrific! The beef is tender, well seasoned and garlicky. If you like giardiniera, theirs is the best! Their beef sandwiches are so much better (and more generous) than Portillo's, in my opinion. We used to go to Portillo's in Crystal Lake when we had a hankering for Italian beef and didn't feel like driving to Hoffman Estates, but now that there is a Buona in Algonquin we wouldn't go back there for a beef sandwich. One minor quibble with the Algonquin location: the layout of the restaurant is less than ideal. You have to walk through the dining area to get to the counter to order, then walk through another section of the dining area to pick up/wait for your carryout order, then back through the dining area again to exit (in sort of a loop through the dining room). I guess it would be fine if it was not busy, but the day I visited (during a snowstorm) the place was PACKED and it was like trying to make your way through a crowded bar. read more

I have loved Buona Beef for a long time. I have always driven further to get a beef from Buona because it is the only place you can get a beef, dipped, with provolone. Also, the pretzel bacon burger with provolone is my sons absolute favorite burger. Went today only to find out they have basically removed my order from the menu! No more pretzel bacon burger, no more provolone, no more reason to go to Buona...can't even get your beef dipped anymore! I was told to just get the original as it's the closest - apparently removing the word "dipped" from the menu removes the ability for the employee to dip the ends of my beef in the Au jus! This is my favorite place for beef sandwiches. I've also had their chopped salad, which is really good. They have installed a new credit/debit machine, which automatically asks how much of a tip you want to add! Ordered the simplest most idiot-proof salad known to man, "Strawberry Avocado Chicken Salad". We've eaten there twice this week. We had their Cobb salads the first time and split their Naked Beef Bowl, Caprese and Grilled Salmon sandwiches. Their ciabatta bread is unique and delicious and is refreshingly different choice in the area. Their Cobb was closer to what I consider a Cobb to be composed of than any I've gotten in the recent year. We chose not to get chicken on the salad and found it to be very filling. The Naked Beef bowl is a great low-carb solution a little spicy not real strong - I eat fresh jalapeños in my eggs for breakfast and this was peppery but not hot like a jalapeño. A welcome addition to the Randall Rd. Restaurant area. While we haven't dined in, the restaurant was flawless and hopping, so you may need to plan for a wait if going. We've ordered twice, and the food was flawless both times. The food has been great, and the service has matched that as well. We have been going to a local Italian beef competitor for 5 to 10 years but over the past year we started to also go to Buona at this location because it was very close to our house. The food here has been consistently good, they have a speedy drive through process in place, and prices are fair. Only on one occasion did we have an issue with our order and they went above and beyond to make it right in such an impressive way that I felt compelled to give them a positive review for their incredible customer service. We have been going to Buona Beef for a long time, and from time to time we have ran into problems and didn't say anything about it. But this time, they are not going to get away with it. Four times we have given them our Buona card (for the points), and they have had so many problems with our cards and have not resolved what the problems were.
