I strolled in, as I always do, to get my flavor-of-the-week matcha. This particular day, it was a strawberry pistachio matcha. It's always consistently good. Great sweetness, good milk, and perfectly balanced between bitter and grassy. I'm very happy to have a matcha spot in this part of Costa Mesa. Now, that being said, what prompted my review was actually looking at their retail shelf. There was coffee from Loquat, DAK, and Tanat just to name a few. Heavy hitters in the specialty space for sure. I had mentioned to the barista behind the counter whether they are hard-focused on supplying great pourovers or espresso. She said they didn't really use those coffees on the shelf in the store itself, but offered me a doubleshot as a sample! I was so grateful, and it was a very nice interaction to have with someone. I do wish the hojicha was a bit stronger, but that is my personal preference. I'm not sure if it was diluted by regular milk and would have stood out more with alternative choices. I do think the drinks here are on the more expensive side, so I don't think I would come here as frequently. They do have a good amount of seating and free WiFi to catch up with friends or get work done.

I was obsessed with the purple rice topping! There are so many menu choices here so I can't wait to try more. I ended up receiving jasmine tea instead of jasmine milk tea. When I pointed out the mistake, they simply opened the drink and added more milk. When I questioned it, they told me that was how they made milk tea. The worst part? They added the milk with their BARE HANDS. Seriously? I was so uncomfortable with how they handled my drink that I took it and dumped it into the trash can by the front. I didn't feel comfortable drinking it at all. If the owner thinks I'm making this up, please check the camera footage from around 6:20 PM on 10/16/26. Loved the cream that was used with it and it was just the right sweetness for us. Overall, Bobapop is such a cute small boba café with frenchies as their mascot. They have fun little trinkets such as pins and keychains near the entrance that they sell as well. The owner, Halia, is very nice and always greets us warmly and with a smile. I decided to go to the Costa Mesa location for a change since I was sick of GG making me waste my money. I went around the 12pm and a guy with a hat and glasses was working and omg. Such a cool perk for app users. I ordered the Longyin Cheese Milk Tea with the 0 cal sweetener. There definitely is a difference in taste using the different sweetener contrary to what people say online. The creamtop on this drink was amazing! Slightly salty and cream that is addicting but not too sweet. In terms of tea, it tasted a little bit watered down, which I've noticed for multiple tea-based drinks at this HeyTea location specifically compared to others that I've been to up in Norcal. The drinks themselves are great and still enjoyable with the slightly diluted taste but I hope that this location can improve! It's so nice having a HeyTea down in Socal.
