Bun'd Up is quite delicious, and serves one of the better buns in the area! Located inside Union Market, there are several seating areas nearby, but space is limited. On a weekend, the area is packed so don't expect to have seats available unless you're patient and lucky. In regards to the food, I had the Korean BBQ, Pork Belly, and Crab Buns! Didn't try the Mushroom Bun, but it looked delicious. The good: All the buns I tasted were delicious! My favorite bao is the Pork Belly Bun had a thick-cut miso braised pork belly topped with pineapple kimchi, and drizzled with cilantro-lime and chili sauce. The combination of spicy and sweet made the bao overwhelmingly flavorful. Korean BBQ Bun was good too, but I felt something was lacking; nonetheless, it is still a great choice if you don't eat pork or prefer beef. Crab Bun is a special limited time only bao that was filled with chunks of crab, and tasted really good. The bad: Location is great, but seating is awful. As mentioned, you'll need to be patient and lucky to find seats unless you prefer to eat while walking around. Overall, if you're ever in the area, try to grab the Pork Belly Bun and Crab Bun, or try them all! The area will get noisy when it is packed especially on the weekend. Was really looking forward to trying this small chain but the flavors were not special. Serving size was small for $13. Ordered the Bulgogi, Spicy Fried Chicken, and Fried Shrimp Buns. The beef was very dry and the chicken was not spicy or crunchy (the sauce made it soggy). My favorite out of the three was the Fried Shrimp bun. Bun'd up is located in the back middle of the first floor. The service there was okay and they have seemingly good options. I got 3 different bao buns for $13 which isn't bad. I personally thing that all of them lacked flavor. The buns themselves weren't sweet like they should be and the meat they used just wasn't seasoned or flavorful. The soy chicken was probably the best one because it was just simple with fried chicken and coleslaw. The Bulgogi one lacked flavor and the pickles were flavorless. The sauce was not good either. So I've been meaning to try this place for awhile since I first tried it at a night market. I really enjoy buns and I wish that more places sold them in the DMV area. I got the trio of buns for $12: - Chanco: The pork belly was so tender with great caramelization on it. It was served with pineapple, scallions and a yummy white BBQ sauce. Tangy, salty and decadent! - Mushroom: The saute on the mushroom seemed standard, but I appreciated the freshness of the microgreens and scallions against the earthy mushrooms. - Koreano: Pretty good bulgogi with pickled cucumbers and a hint of ginger chili sauce. Due to the sheer volume of costumers at the festival and the length of it, the handmade buns became slightly mushy when served and lost some of its pillowiness. Probably 4 or so bites in each, full of flavor. The kbbq was good, but pretty boring in terms of flavors and I wouldn't go for that one again. The mushroom was very good with fried shallots and microgreens, and some sauce that was delicious. Easily my favorite though was the pork belly, could eat a million of these. Now, the sweet PB&J bun is usually offered between 10-11 am, but the awesome dude whose cousin owns the business made a couple for my friend and I to try. She LOVED it - and she eats PB&J sandwiches daily. I thought it was good, but I only got one bite of hers - since she was raving over it so much, I figured I'd let her have my entire bun. I found the service to be rude, which honestly wouldn't have fazed me had the food been good-I ordered the 3/$13 bao special, to include the mushroom, the sweet soy glazed chicken and the bulgogi. I got the mushroom, a pork (which I cannot eat) and the spicy chicken...so they got 1 out of 3 right. The cashier was also super rude when I politely asked why my total was $14.95, he just kept saying tax, however, tax on food is not 15% in DC, so that was a crock. I took a look at my emailed receipt when I got home, which showed a "COVID preparedness" charge...which he totally could have just said, but chose to lie instead. The three current flavors are mushroom, Korean BBQ, and pork. When you order three regular sized bao buns you can mix and match the flavors. Together all three are $12 and very filling! The Korean BBQ should be highlighted for the delicious and perfect use of kimchi and pickled onions. There is a wonderful blend of traditional and fusion inspired flavors. The service is friendly and super speedy! I love being able to run quickly into Union Market and take a box for a fast lunch or easy dinner. On my most recent visit, still the same menu, I had a large beef and a large and some small buns as well. The buns were good, nice and soft. The meats were tender and flavorful. I liked the bite from the pickles also. My only thing is I've gone by when they first came to Union Market, and again yesterday, there was no peanut butter and jelly bun available. I was told earlier in the week Wednesday is probably the best day to get a pb&j bun. They back make the filling and they tend to run out on the weekend, so if you come in on a Monday, like I did, they likely will be out of pb&j. Overall, I did like the buns so I will be back.
