Longo's - Basil, tomatoes, and rosemary

Longo's

I was in the area yesterday and noticed that Longo's has finally opened. Naturally, I needed to…read morestop by. The parking lot was busy. However, I had no problem backing into a parking spot and walking into the store. I had a staff member ask me whether I wanted a cart. Sure! There are two cart sizes. He gave me a smaller one, which was perfect. This store is massive! The Loft, which is the second floor that has additional seating if you want to eat and drink, is on the second floor. You can either take the stairs or elevator. The latter is a welcome accessibility addition. The fruits and vegetables are in pristine condition. I bought fresh kale and made soup today. It's the best bunch that I have ever used in my life. The living well section is next door. It has a variety of plant-based, gluten-free, and dairy-free items. I managed to get a bunch of Gardein protein (the mock fried fish, chicken tenders, and turkey are my favourites) that were on sale. You can also learn about food by using the interactive information screen in the area. You can't miss it! The hot bar items looked good. If you want to eat a yummy meal, hit this bar. There was steak, lasagna, brussel sprouts, and more that I was eyeing for a while. There are also a bunch of meal kits that you can take home and make healthy meals. For example, if you feel like pad Thai, pick up the noodles that have the sauce, and then select whether you want veggies or meat. It's pretty cool. I wasn't expecting to camp out in the frozen vegetable section, but I did. I decided to give the riced mixed vegetables a shot. It is a decent substitution for rice if you are on a low-carb diet. I also got cauliflower mash with bacon in it. The bacon caught my interest. I also spent perhaps too much time hovering around the bakery. From brownies to store-made birthday cakes, this place has everything. It was almost like someone knew that I had arrived. Strawberry shortcakes and key lime cheesecakes were taunting me to buy and eat them. Longo's does get a bit expensive. However, the quality is always amazing and the selection is different than our average grocery store. I am probably shopping here once a month. It also helps to keep an eye on sale items. Don't forget to sign up for the rewards program. You earn points for every $25 that you spend here. I had a cheerful, friendly cashier. She asked me whether I wanted bags. I had brought my huge reusable bag, so I was good. I paid with my debit card and walked out happily with my goods. I just made my version of zuppa Toscana with many ingredients that I bought here. The chorizo sausage and kale that I got were so good. It's probably the best batch of soup that I have made in a long time. I love this new store. I will be back to give the hot bar food items a go! The parking lot is not huge, but it never really gets full and it's good enough if you visit on a weekday. I love how empty the place is on a weekday, and the store is so clean lols. If you ever need to order a cake, Longo's Strawberry Shortcake is the best and it's not even that expensive. Not a bad grocery store to go to if others get too busy!

The Meat Merchant - Assorted marinated half chickens. Lots of interesting choices. I really like the jerk!

I love this little shop…read more The staff are super friendly and helpful. One of my favourite things here are the potato volcanos!! It is a bacon wrapped baked potato with some cheese topping. Next on my "go to" list is the Guiness Steak pies. So easy to make and very flavourful. They also have chicken pot pies, steak and kidney pies and a few others. If you have a dog, well they have very nice bone marrow bones for your fur baby. Just pop in and see what may appeal to you. As I said, the staff is very helpful here.

These people have very questionable business practices. I just read a review that accused them of…read moremisusing copyrighted material on their website. I was in there at the beginning of the month and I purchased some steaks, a haggis and some other items. I called them back to order a 5 pound haggis. They were unable to get what I wanted and when I reminded them of our previous conversations where I told them that five individual haggis's were not acceptable because I needed a single haggis as a part of a Funeral ceremony they simply pulled up my past sale data and used the credit card information to process an unauthorized transaction?? Who does that? My family is trying to get ready for my Mother's Funeral this Saturday. I have no haggis, and a charge on my card. So on top of all of the arrangements that I've been dealing with this week I had to reach out to MasterCard and cancel my card for fear of further unauthorized transactions. Stealing people's copyrighted material is completely disrespectful, however putting through unauthorized charges while a family is trying to get ready for a funeral is despicable. As a consumer please keep in mind If a merchant tries to push a charge through just because they have your card on file from the past, but there was no new agreement or order, it's not valid, and you're absolutely within your rights to dispute the charge and demand a reversal. My advice...pay cash if you are shopping at The Meat Merchant but honestly the steaks at Costco are better and cheaper, and if you need haggis go to McComish's Wee British Shoppe in Orillia. The owner is an absolutely lovely chap and his steak and kidney pie is absolutely the best that I have had this side of the pond.

I needed to pick up a few grocery items, so dropping by Food World Supermarket afterwards was perfect. This building used to Rose Garden Banquet and Convention. I'm guessing that due to the pandemic, this business suffered and shut down. There is plenty of parking in front and around this supermarket. I backed into a spot and walked in. The doors automatically open, which is wonderful. This supermarket is located across from Burger King. I often frequent it when I crave a flame-broiled burger. Both are in the same plaza as Wok of Asia. It's clean and cheerful when you first walk in. You see cases of pop and sparking water. The produce section then greets you. I needed avocados and celery. Prices are either comparable to what you see at grocery stores like No Frills, but the quality is better. Both produce items that I grabbed were fresh and in great condition. This grocery store carries halal items. It features a lot of South Asian products, such as Parle-G and paratha. You also see ramen and Ribena, both of which made me love shopping at this store even more. I saw everything from custard to paneer. It does sell corned beef in cans and rose water in glass bottles. Cool! The meat section is impressive. It's huge with every cut of meat that you can possibly think of. You can get food to go. There's a stall within the supermarket where you can get pizza, shawarma, and more. I paid for my produce. The woman at the checkout was extremely pleasant and nice. I paid with my debit card. This store gives you a plastic bag. I thanked her and headed to the exit. Just before you exit, there's a stall that sells desserts, ice cream, drinks, and more. I asked the woman behind the counter whether their drinks have added sugar. They don't. The store goes with the natural sweetness of their fruit or veggies. I wanted to get the sugar cane and coconut hydrating beverage. She had run out of coconut, so I got a large sugar cane drink. As she made my drink, I looked at the desserts display. There were individual portions of chocolate mousse cake and sponge cakes. You can also get milkshakes, ice cream, and more. She asked whether I wanted ice in my sugar cane drink. I said as much as the cup could fit the ice. It was perfect on a hot day. I asked the nice woman how long this supermarket has been open for. It opened on May 18th. I paid with my debit card. Done! I thanked the woman and left with my groceries and drink. The sugarcane was indeed the real deal. It was naturally sweet and yummy. I was happy with my drink. It was nice consuming it as I drove home. Whenever I was in the area to grab some dinner, there was never a supermarket close by to get a few grocery items. It's definitely more convenient now thanks to this Food World. (174)
