Since my commute has dissipated, when I need to do my twice-a-week run for groceries, I tend to hit Whitchurch-Stouffville. I get a bit of a nice, casual drive north, get what I need, and enjoy a relaxed drive heading home. For years, I have dropped by the Scotiabank, Swiss Chalet, and Harvey's in this plaza whenever I'm in town. I have eyed this Metro for years. I even remember it as a kid being a Dominion. I decided to get my groceries here for Easter dinner at this Metro. I came on a Saturday. I found a decent parking spot close to the entrance and walked over to the lineup that went around the store. I'd estimate that nearly fifteen people were ahead of me just before noon. I like being in a smaller town. Folks tend to be friendly. One man was walking over and said good morning. The guy in front of me said nothing. I replied back, which the man appreciated. We chatted for a bit, which made waiting in line more bearable. Staff here were great during these weird times. I got into the store perhaps twelve minutes later. I went to get a cart, but someone trying to get by wanted to bypass me. The male staff member asked him to wait until I went through with my cart. I loved that gesture. Safety is key. I normally don't shop at Metro. I have two in Scarborough that are my closest ones. This one is third on the distance list. I'm glad that I dropped by. I like it. The produce section was incredible. Everything was fresh and in pristine condition. I got a head of cauliflower that seemed flawless to me. I was here to get a turkey. Sadly, all turkeys that did not have stuffing were sold out, except for a 25-pound one. I didn't need one that large! Instead, I went with my first stuffed Butterball turkey. I got some other items, such as pop and ice cream. I went with sale items. Metro tends to be a bit expensive, but I like the selection that I don't mind paying a bit more. The male staff member, who was great having me enter the store with my cart first before the guy behind me, was also managing the checkout area. He saw that I had eight items and directed me over to the express lane. Yay! As with all lanes at the checkout area, there are markers on the floor where you should stand. I got a female cashier, who was wonderful packing my items into plastic bags and helping me with paying for these items. Metro accepts Air Miles. Make sure you tap your card's barcode, either with the card itself or your app, to collect points. There is tons of parking. I had a great first experience here. Even during the Easter weekend, there was a sense of calm and politeness that I liked at this store. (151)

I love this little shop…read more The staff are super friendly and helpful. One of my favourite things here are the potato volcanos!! It is a bacon wrapped baked potato with some cheese topping. Next on my "go to" list is the Guiness Steak pies. So easy to make and very flavourful. They also have chicken pot pies, steak and kidney pies and a few others. If you have a dog, well they have very nice bone marrow bones for your fur baby. Just pop in and see what may appeal to you. As I said, the staff is very helpful here.

These people have very questionable business practices. I just read a review that accused them of…read moremisusing copyrighted material on their website. I was in there at the beginning of the month and I purchased some steaks, a haggis and some other items. I called them back to order a 5 pound haggis. They were unable to get what I wanted and when I reminded them of our previous conversations where I told them that five individual haggis's were not acceptable because I needed a single haggis as a part of a Funeral ceremony they simply pulled up my past sale data and used the credit card information to process an unauthorized transaction?? Who does that? My family is trying to get ready for my Mother's Funeral this Saturday. I have no haggis, and a charge on my card. So on top of all of the arrangements that I've been dealing with this week I had to reach out to MasterCard and cancel my card for fear of further unauthorized transactions. Stealing people's copyrighted material is completely disrespectful, however putting through unauthorized charges while a family is trying to get ready for a funeral is despicable. As a consumer please keep in mind If a merchant tries to push a charge through just because they have your card on file from the past, but there was no new agreement or order, it's not valid, and you're absolutely within your rights to dispute the charge and demand a reversal. My advice...pay cash if you are shopping at The Meat Merchant but honestly the steaks at Costco are better and cheaper, and if you need haggis go to McComish's Wee British Shoppe in Orillia. The owner is an absolutely lovely chap and his steak and kidney pie is absolutely the best that I have had this side of the pond.

Pricey? Yes. Worth it? Yes!…read more I don't shop here often but when I do, their products are top notch - fresh and worth every penny! It's definitely expensive shopping here but you really do get what you pay for. I come here mainly for their bakery items like their famous jelly roll cake - a must get for the holidays! Their cookies here are baked in house and delicious as well. I often come here during the holidays for herbs as well, since herbs seem to sell out quickly at larger grocery stores. They really have everything that you need here. Butcher section also has great quality meat. As for their ice cream pints at the back of the store - you MUST get some! They are so delicious with unique flavours, some even with an Asian twist. Overall, a great grocery store to shop from if you have the means for it ;) OR stop in here once in a while to check out their specialty items like the jelly roll!

I stopped by to pick up one of their infamous jelly rolls. Never had one but heard that it's amazing. The standard one is the mixed berry however they had a lemon & blueberry one so I opted to go with that since hubby loves that flavor combination. We took it to a friend's house that night and it was exquisite! My friends who said that they normally don't like cake now have a new addiction. The cake had the perfect texture to it to hold up all that amazing fresh cream, lemon curd and blueberries and it was also a perfect balance of sweetness. I've been there on multiple occasions while living in Markham usually interacting with the staff in bakery and the cashiers and everyone I have encountered has been lovely. The parking lot isn't massive but it is enough to host all of their shoppers as I've never had an issue with finding parking there.
