Next on my "go to" list is the Guiness Steak pies. So easy to make and very flavourful. They also have chicken pot pies, steak and kidney pies and a few others. I was in there at the beginning of the month and I purchased some steaks, a haggis and some other items. I called them back to order a 5 pound haggis. They were unable to get what I wanted and when I reminded them of our previous conversations where I told them that five individual haggis's were not acceptable because I needed a single haggis as a part of a Funeral ceremony they simply pulled up my past sale data and used the credit card information to process an unauthorized transaction?? Who does that? My family is trying to get ready for my Mother's Funeral this Saturday. I have no haggis, and a charge on my card. So on top of all of the arrangements that I've been dealing with this week I had to reach out to MasterCard and cancel my card for fear of further unauthorized transactions. Stealing people's copyrighted material is completely disrespectful, however putting through unauthorized charges while a family is trying to get ready for a funeral is despicable. As a consumer please keep in mind If a merchant tries to push a charge through just because they have your card on file from the past, but there was no new agreement or order, it's not valid, and you're absolutely within your rights to dispute the charge and demand a reversal. My advice...pay cash if you are shopping at The Meat Merchant but honestly the steaks at Costco are better and cheaper, and if you need haggis go to McComish's Wee British Shoppe in Orillia. The owner is an absolutely lovely chap and his steak and kidney pie is absolutely the best that I have had this side of the pond.

However, I had no problem backing into a parking spot and walking into the store. I had a staff member ask me whether I wanted a cart. Sure! There are two cart sizes. He gave me a smaller one, which was perfect. This store is massive! The Loft, which is the second floor that has additional seating if you want to eat and drink, is on the second floor. You can either take the stairs or elevator. The latter is a welcome accessibility addition. The fruits and vegetables are in pristine condition. I bought fresh kale and made soup today. It's the best bunch that I have ever used in my life. The living well section is next door. It has a variety of plant-based, gluten-free, and dairy-free items. I managed to get a bunch of Gardein protein (the mock fried fish, chicken tenders, and turkey are my favourites) that were on sale. You can also learn about food by using the interactive information screen in the area. You can't miss it! The hot bar items looked good. If you want to eat a yummy meal, hit this bar. There was steak, lasagna, brussel sprouts, and more that I was eyeing for a while. There are also a bunch of meal kits that you can take home and make healthy meals. For example, if you feel like pad Thai, pick up the noodles that have the sauce, and then select whether you want veggies or meat. It's pretty cool. I wasn't expecting to camp out in the frozen vegetable section, but I did. I decided to give the riced mixed vegetables a shot. It is a decent substitution for rice if you are on a low-carb diet. I also got cauliflower mash with bacon in it. The bacon caught my interest. I also spent perhaps too much time hovering around the bakery. From brownies to store-made birthday cakes, this place has everything. It was almost like someone knew that I had arrived. Strawberry shortcakes and key lime cheesecakes were taunting me to buy and eat them. Longo's does get a bit expensive. However, the quality is always amazing and the selection is different than our average grocery store. I am probably shopping here once a month. It also helps to keep an eye on sale items. I'm giving it 4 stars because I really like the ambiance, and despite the food being ok, I've always had good service. They have different rooms depending on who you are with - I find that large groups tend to be seated on the main floor, while couples can have a quieter meal on the second floor. In the summer they have a nice balcony patio off the second floor dining room but they also renovated the first floor so that you can sit right at these large patio doors that open right onto Main Street. I also like their commitment to sourcing ingredients locally. I'm willing to keep giving them another chance.

Our ravioli dish was actually really good, but there was only ONE PIECE (yes, it's a larger piece but c'mon). The risotto had the right texture, but the boys found it a bit bland and underwhelming at a cost of around $22. I actually have no complaints about the shepherd's pie or the chicken stew, I'd recommend both of these dishes. Our waitress disappeared a couple of times, and another had to keep coming in to help, very thankful that she was there to support a teammate. However, I have been passing by this LCBO every week that I decided to stop by and check the store out. This LCBO used to be a No Frills years ago. No Frills is now down the street, a few blocks east of here. This LCBO is spacious and easy to walk around. Even though you couldn't tell with my mask on, I had such a huge smile on my face when I saw BEER WORLD in huge capital letters on the right side of this store when you first walk in. Sure, there were red arrows taped on the floor to guide you through the store. I just had the sign to this heavenly world as my beacon for beer delight. It's one huge beer fridge. The selection is decent. All my favourites were there (yay, Stella!), both local and world beer varieties. All were nicely chilled, including me after I was done browsing. I finally picked up an eight-pack of Cottage Springs vodka soda. I like them. They are refreshing on a hot day and don't contain any sugar. Back in April, there was a lineup of customers outside the door. I didn't see anything like that at around 7 pm when I got there. There wasn't a lineup to pay for my booze, either. The woman was friendly, although she didn't wait for my yanking out my Air Miles card for some reason. She apologized. Anyway, I collected my points, paid using my debit card, and walked out happy with pack of vodka soda. I had a nice experience here. The parking lot does get busier by the LCBO because people want their alcohol. It's in a plaza with a Shoppers Drug Mart, so there's plenty of parking. (230)

It's odd that Markham does not have one. This store takes over from Subway. It's a bit sad that this plaza has been experiencing some business turnovers of as of late, including Hakka Villa next door. However, I'm ecstatic that COBS is here. I hadn't been to one since I was in Ottawa last summer. There is always lots of parking in this SmartCentres shopping area. I parked fairly close to the store and walked in. There was a man and his son checking out the goodies. I was happy that they were ahead of me, so I could take some photos and look at the baked goods, scones, rolls, and more. Whitchurch-Stouffville is a throwback to my growing up in the Beaches. Without expecting it, the man in front of me politely said that I could go order first because they were struggling to decide. It was so kind of him. I thanked him and approached the counter. The woman who helped me was energetic and friendly. I fell in love with the custard danishes (is that the plural of danish or do I need to go more formal with danish pastries?) when I got four of them in Ottawa before heading home. I got the following custard danishes: - Raspberry - Peach Each one was placed in a paper bag. I refrained from getting any bread, although anything with melted cheddar on it looked tempting to me. I scanned my Breadcrumbs QR code to earn points. I was thrilled to finally use my COBS app. The woman let me know how much my purchases cost. I paid with a debit card. I tapped and was good. I thanked her and left. I should have bought more danishes. I had the raspberry and custard one as soon as I got in my car. The combination of custard with a touch of sweetness and fresh raspberries is perfection. The danish was so scrumptious. I devoured it before I headed home. After dinner that same day, I had the peach and custard danish. I loved the cubed, ripe peaches on top of the custard with the perfect amount of icing drizzled on top. This peach variety is seasonal and is so perfect when the weather is warmer. It screams summertime yumminess. I'm drooling as I reminisce about everything that I saw and inhaled. I want a scone and a loaf of any bread when I return. I'm so happy that York region has a location and that it's a leisurely drive for me to get my fix. (225)
