I think part of the reason this place has 5 star reviews is because they have posters saying they'll give you a discount if you put a review on yelp. It doesn't ask for a positive review, but who wouldn't if they're getting a discount? We spent a fortune on doors here that ended up being engineered wood of very low quality. They creaked, had dents and were very difficult to install. When we asked for a discount given the amount to purchase, they said it was against policy- No one gets a discount. Well, I overheard another sales associate discussing a discount for another customer on a later visit. To make matters worse, the same doors we bought went on sale a few days later and when I asked about this, our sales associate denied there ever being a sale. All in all, we were unhappy with the quality and the value. read more

Decided to drop by after a less-than-stellar experience with GlassCraft down the street. These guys definitely live up to their namesake; this warehouse is filled to the brim with everything you'd need for a house remodel! My husband and I were looking for a new front exterior door and we were pleased with Buyer's Surplus' inventory. Take note that although they have an extensive inventory with affordable prices, most doors come COMPLETELY UNFINISHED - no color, no polyurethane, and no holes for hardware. You are LITERALLY buying a wooden slab (but at least the designs are pretty!). After telling us this, Chad, our awesome 'n helpful sales rep, took one look at our wide-eyed, "deer in the headlights" faces and patiently explained the process of finishing, adding hardware, and installation. When I showed interest in frosting the glass windows, he happily walked me through that process as well. If you'd rather not deal with any of that, you WILL have to hire an outside source, so budget accordingly. Speaking as a couple of dazed first-time home-buyers whose handymanship is pretty much close to zero, staining and sealing the door ourselves turned out to be a relatively simple -yet time-consuming- project. Anyone can do it. The tough part is finding an outside source to cut out holes for the hardware! Chad mentioned he has a guy that you can pay to do it in-house, so I highly recommend taking advantage of that unless you want to deal with the frustrating process of finding someone on the outside. We found out the hard way that they're so difficult to come by! Aside from dealing with those headaches, the purchasing process at Builder's Surplus was pretty smooth. There were plenty of staff members on the floor to assist customers, and if they're anything like Chad, they should all be really knowledgeable, helpful, and patient. They were able to hold our door for a week until we were ready to bring it home, and it was wrapped tightly and in pristine condition at pick-up. Make sure you come with the appropriate means for transport - THEY DO NOT DELIVER OR INSTALL! All in all, this is a really great no-frills place to check out if you're doing any kind of remodeling... just know you're gonna have to put in some of your own elbow grease too! read more

Builders Surplus doesn't have what's called a code of ethics. If you don't ask, they will not tell you information that's imperative in the purchase you make. Any business that sells home improvement products knows well that windstorm has certain requirements for upgrades you make on your home. A business that doesn't have a sign that advertised their products aren't approved by windstorm and doesn't allow you to return their product with a receipt. They don't understand it's the consumer that keeps them in business. thank goodness I can afford to purchase my product from elsewhere, but what about the person who cannot afford to make another purchase. Beware of the product you buy for builders surplus. I will never make another purchase from them. read more

I went to the website looking for bathroom faucets...and saw that they had a section of bathroom faucets....on the top of the page...there is a title bar showing that their faucets were 20.00...so I went further and looked at the list of faucets ...to check the prices next to each faucet...just to make sure that there were no contradicting prices...but there were none..... and because there were none you naturally assume that... all faucets listed under the 20.00 banner are 20.00....of course I had no idea this would be farthest from the truth....so I paid a friend 10.00 in gas to give me a ride over there....with the intention of buying 2 of the faucets they were advertising for 20.00...but when I got there....those same faucets listed for 20.00 were actually listed at retail prices and even higher than home depot sells them for.. ..I asked...where are those faucets that you advertise for 20.00 and they acted like they didn't know what I was talking about but instead they pointed to an obscure stack of other items in another section of the building...and so I took a look at the stack and found only a few bath faucets...nothing like they were advertising on their website...so I said...hey....these are not the faucets they were advertising on their website...and they said they knew it...and I said well then why were they advertising faucets for 20.00 when they were selling them for retail price or higher... they didn't have an answer... but then they admitted that the website advertising was false and that they had no plans in changing it to reflect the true prices...and I said what...??......dont you know that you are committing false advertising and they said....that there was nothing they could do about it...to my shock...I was disgusted with these people's business practices...and they had no shame in doing it....nor correcting what they were doing..... my conclusion is.... dont believe what they advertise...you better call to verify any prices for anything and make sure you get the right product in question...lest you too be disappointed in their deliberate false advertising.....they know what they are doing and yet they have no plans in correcting it.....they are deliberately deceiving you......just to get you out there........ read more

I came in to check out their tile, after scoping out the other stores first where the tile I wanted was 2.50 per square foot. I found the same tile for 1.59! Not only that, but the guy who helped me also threw in a box of free tile, so an extra 16 square feet for free, because I was driving out of state with the tile. Just went to builders surplus and all I can say is this was an amazing experience. I have been looking for a very specific kind of tile for the past month and have been to over seven stores and all the prices for about 6 to 8 dollars a square feet. Here I paid $1.58 a square ft . They just called me this morning (Thursday) to tell me that the doors that were supposed to be ready 3 days ago are not ready and that they will be able to give me a better "time-line" on Monday or Tuesday as to when they might be ready. Something about the door cutting machine being broken. She said it is based on a first come first served basis so I'm guessing there are a lot ahead of me (and after me) that haven't gotten their's either. I'm annoyed that they are just now letting me know. I'm holding off rating them at this point because well, who knows how it will go. read more

Wow. It's colder in here than outside. I'm shivering and don't even card to look around which is why I'm leaving. There has to be a little comfort when shopping for almost everything in the store. There's almost no walk space in front of the baseboards. I had to squeeze through. The baseboards aren't very secure or safe. One almost fell on me, I had to grab it and it punctured my hand. Even the employees are wearing coats and caps to stay warm. The few things I saw appear to be good quality but I was in the store less than 15 minutes. I won't be returning during the winter or cooler months. Too cold. read more

After visiting this store several times checking prices ect, I purchased cabinets on 9/13/16 with the promise of them arriving within 5-7 business days. One 9/24/16 i called the store in inquiry after reading some reviews and responses by a guy name Eric. The person who answered happened to be Eric and i proceeded to tell him that it was my lucky day since i had just been reading some reviews that he was involved in. Now in writing this review I am very unhappy with this service given that I have spent just shy of $1000 at this store. I told Eric that I was checking on my order because i had not gotten a pick up call yet. He told me that it had just been completed that very morning and was no ready for pickup. On 9/26/19 I rented a Uhaul van to pick up my items only to find that several items were damaged (one had to be reorder) and one item was apparently never ordered at all. Ethan, said he would look into in getting the missing item later that day and drive them out to me. That later turned out to be not successful. I was informed of it and had to cancel the installer for that day. I asked about an ETA of the other 2 items and was promised a call later that evening , which never occurred. I called the next day and asked about the item and was again promised a follow up call by 12 noon. That call also never came. Today Oct. 1st I am still left with not having my crown molding trim or my wine glass holder and can not get my cabinets installed. This is NOT good customer service! read more

Very helpful and knowledgeable staff!! Walked into a large selection of everything you would need for a complete home Reno without huge price tags!! When we couldn't find a window we asked the staff if they had the size he suggested we try their outdoor space. Wide eyed we ran out to find a smorgasbord of architecture salvage! The inside is well organized and easy to navigate. The side fenced yard outside is great for pickers but prepare to dig through doors, windows and tile. We found the exact window we were looking for (36"h x 24"w) for only $20!!! Home Depot and other big box stores couldn't touch that pricing. Will defiantly be coming back for more supplies during our renovation and will recommend to friends and family! read more

I have many mistakes in my life and trying to do business with this store is one of my biggest one. I paid for a bathroom vanity online. We were told it would be at the store 4 days later. We call several times before someone would help us . They told us it was there to be picked up. When I got there I gave them the paper work to get my new bathroom vanity. The salesman went to the showroom floor and told me it was new but was put on the floor by mistake. Sales tag still on it. It was very clear it had been on the showroom floor for quite some time by all of the scratches. The manager C. got involved and made things worse by being rude and not willing to work with me. I ask him who is the owner and how I could get in touch with him. He told me he would not give that information to me. He told me the owner would not do anything even if I could get to talk to him. Then he turned his back to me and walked away. read more
