I reached out to Julian via Yelp to have my mom's door refinished. Julian was very patient in communicating. There were a few times my schedule was a conflict, but we finally set a date. Friday, I received a text from David. He communicated with me that he was running a bit late and what his ETA would be. I appreciated the text message as I was coming from my own home and had to head over to my mother's house. David & Andrew arrived promptly as stated the time. David went through the process with me and asked me to choose the color stain (he also helped). He stated how long it was going to take them. The whole process was a smooth transaction. Andrew assisted David and helped him take the door down and cover the front door with plastic. I notice how closely they worked together and how very commutative they were to each other. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!!!!. I took the bait in a mailer and scheduled them to refinish my double entry way doors. Pictures were sent and instructions given to match the inside of the doors and finish with a high gloss appearance. They took the job without mentioning that they did not think they could accurately match the color on the inside of the door. Additionally, they did not give my wife the opportunity to pick which color she thought was best (as indicated on their website) but was only asked if the color the technician chose would work. What was she supposed to say? In the end, the technician rushed the job to complete all sanding prep, staining, and final weather protection on 2 doors in 2.5 hours. This is not possible. Needed 100 grit, 150 grit, then 220 grit to prep. Then each coat of stain/urethane should have taken an hour each to dry but somehow this guy got it all done in 2.5 hours. In the end, my doors are ruined orange, the beautiful wood character is muted like it was painted and I either have to redo/fix it myself or find another vendor. During a lengthy discussion with them about the matter, at not time have they apologized that we are unhappy nor have they suggested any options for fixing it. This is 100% unacceptable. Larry with Sturdy Doors came out to provide a walnut stain/varnish service to our front double door on Feb 21, 2024. Doors look great, but there was significant overspray on to the adjacent white stucco wall when the stain/varnish was applied to the outside door trim all around the doors. I have not been able to remove the stain from the stucco. I contacted Sturdy Doors several times on this and they have refused to repair the damage by painting that part of the stucco wall arguing that the stain overspray was already there, and they are not responsible. However, pictures taken immediately before the work was performed showed there was no stain overspray on the stucco, but after the doors were stained/varnished, the stain/varnish is now there. I am now faced with the expense of repairing the damage myself that Sturdy Doors caused on this project. I would strongly warn against using Sturdy Doors as the finished quality of the project was poor, and their lack to effort to repair the damage caused by their service representative makes them an unreliable service provider. The worker, Johnny called ahead and told me approximately the time would arrive to my home. He came earlier than the scheduled time. Removed my door carefully and set upstairs my front yard. Despite a courteous and efficient 2-man door refinishing crew, (who we tipped well) we were very much disappointed for several reasons: - they were not equipped well to clean up their sawdust, repair their minor damage to our door, and clean their stain/dirty marks on our door frame/jamb. - stain did not match color or description told to us before work start. - they took our old door hardware (after replacing with new hardware we provided). - they also did not leave behind our new hardware literature and owner's guide (for digital operation, etc.) - displeasure reported to woman answering main phone after job completion, and request was made for owner to contact us about these issues. After having my front door refinished by Sturdy Doors the finish severely bubbled and peeled when painters used blue painters tape around the edges to keep from getting paint on the door- The tape was only on the door for minutes, not any length of time - The Sturdy Door owner said that it was the painters fault and that painters should have known that this would damage the varnish..... Actually the painters were dismayed that this occurred as it is their practice to always protect doors or any other surface from paint with this tape and have never experienced this issue - Varnish on the front door is intended to withstand the weather so having it damaged by tape intended to be gentle to painted and varnished surfaces leads me to believe that the door would not have withstood much of our Texas weather.... I tested the blue tape on many other varnished surfaces in my home and haven't found any that it damages varnished surfaces as claimed by the owner - It doesn't even damage indoor paint on my walls - The owner acted unprofessionally in blaming others and not taking any responsibility for his work - I would not use them again or recommend them read more

However, when the technician left, they didn't install my door lock properly and I had to call in to ask them to reinstall the door lock. Made an appointment on October 30 to have the front door refinished on Nov 22 @ 830am. The company confirmed the appointments by text two times, with the last being Nov 21. On Nov.22 the day of the appointment, at 7:17 am I get a text and voicemail from Allen that he has been having car trouble for a week and needs to reschedule the appointment for 12 noon on Thursday Nov 25 (Thanksgiving day). I understand things happen but if the car was giving you trouble for a week, why not get it fixed or have someone as back up. As per their cancellation policy, they want at least 23 hours from the customer to cancel an appointment or the customer is charged a $75 fee. My question is, what does the company do when they cancel less than 23 hours and the customer took the day off from work? The answer, reschedule the customer on Thanksgiving day. So I do not know if their door refinishing work is good or not, but their customer service and lack of consideration for customers gets them 1 star and a less than stellar review. By the way, I cancelled services altogether after that, I do not want to use them at all. read more
