I've only been here three times and they've waited on me every time. I came here looking for iron doors and windows for my new home build. But it also looks like they have interior doors as well. I plan on coming back for that and some flooring for my rental remodeling properties. I don't need a kitchen just yet, but they have plenty of kitchen cabinets. Maybe in the future! I paid over $4,000 for cabinets from this company. The cabinets weren't installed until the other work was completed . I noticed there was a large cut on the outside of the draw and on the inside there was a cut and the mistake had been glued and covered up by placing part of the shelf to cover it. When I informed them of the problem the answer was they wouldn't give me another draw because I had it for a month. Yes but it wasn't installed until my contractor was ready to install them. My husband and I visited this store back in June to purchase a front door. A guy waited on us and told us if we purchased it to purchase thru him as he was a manager. Unbeknownst to either of us, As it turned out he was fired that day but continued to sell us the door thru texts and a phone call. When we went to pick up the door we were told that our deposit was never received by Builders Surplus! We at that time learned he had previously been fired and that we were scammed. To say the least my husband and I were so upset. There was a man by the name of Henry Hernandez who was actually the manager, greeted us and learned of the situation and he suddenly disappeared. We were then passed on to a lady who was very helpful but we ended up leaving without the door. Sorry for such a long story...it was several days later that I called back to the store and asked to speak to the manager Henry Hernandez and as I was again telling him how we had been scammed and would he by chance give us a discount on the door?...what he said next was shocking...He told me "I know and I'm very aware of what happened the other day and if you or your husband ever set foot in my store again, I'm calling the police!!!" Absolutely ridiculous. I thought I would give them a try even though I'm an hour and a half away. I called just to get a ballpark on a door. They said "it is our company policy we just don't give prices over the phone". I get that I'm not asking for precise price I just want to know if it's worth my time to drive out there instead of just going to a big box store or a local millwork shop to get a 2/8 half lite steel exterior door with no grills. And I was told to make sure I grab a cart when I walk in the place because I'm going to buy all kinds of other stuff because they have the best prices around. But there is no way I'm going to make an hour and a half trip one way and not know if I'm actually saving any money I will not be visiting them. read more

Once again this place has been a total disappointment. I purchased a vanity about a week ago and when I returned to pick it up it there was a scratch on the toe kick. I asked for a replacement toe kick which I could install myself. I was told the toe kick would be $40 (about $8 anywhere else) because they don't give away things for free even though it was damaged while in their possession. Manager came over and said they could replace the toe kick, but couldn't give it to me to replace it myself. I explained TO THE MANAGER that I had been waiting for an hour, was pressed for time and could fix it myself. She said they couldn't just give it to me and this is what they were offering and that's all she could do. Mind blown!!! Customer service is non-existent here. Don't waste your time or money. TERRIBLE / AWFUL / SCAM-LIKE EXPERIENCE...SAVE YOURSELF THE HEADACHE BUYER BEWARE !!! On Saturday Oct 3 I along with my mother and grandmother went to Builders Surplus in Cobb county to purchase a vanity for my grandmother's bathroom renovation. My mother has purchased doors from here so we were sorta familiar with them. We searched the pre-fab vanity aisle but didn't find what we were looking for. This is where we meet our salesperson, Jose, the source of our headache and this review. Jose was very nice and helpful but ultimately he sold us a marble top and a vanity base that SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN SOLD TOGETHER BECAUSE THEY DO NOT FIT EACH OTHER. After not finding the vanity of our liking on the main sales floor, my grandmother wandered into the showroom, where they keep their "custom inventory". My grandmother fell in love with the display vanity, a 60" double vanity (2 - 24" cabinets & 1 - 12" middle cabinet...3 separate pieces that fit together to make one large 60" piece). This is exactly what we were looking for, a 60" double vanity to go in her guest bathroom. HERE IS WHERE THE ERROR COMES IN....the display is a 60" dual sink bathroom vanity with a marble top. OUR SALESPERSON, JOSE explained to us the cabinets and marble tops are sold separately. HE SUGGESTED WE GO OUTSIDE TO PICK THE MARBLE TOP WE WANTED ON OUR CABINETS. We listened to our salesperson, JOSE because he's the expert, right?? HUGE MISTAKE !!!!!!! We picked out the 60" marble top we wanted to go on top of our 60" set of cabinets. Easy. $1600.00 and about 2 weeks. Perfect timing because we were just starting the renovation and it would be about 2 weeks before the contractors would be ready to install the vanity. PERFECT! NOT SO MUCH...... 2 weeks later we start calling Builders Surplus inquiring about our vanity and marble top. It wasn't in, it will be here in a few days. Few days later....oh it's in but the "cabinet maker" was in a car accident and there's a delay on all vanities, it will be a few more days. FINALLY Monday, Nov 2 contractors pick-up the vanity and marble top. Get everything upstairs to the bathroom take the cabinets out of the boxes, set them up and lay the marble top down only to discover IT DOES NOT FIT. How does a 60" marble top not fit a 60" vanity base you ask?? Simple, the marble top isn't cut to fit the vanity base. The 2 sink bowls don't align properly so as a "work-around" the 12" middle piece is taken out and hocus-pocus the marble top now fits. BUT instead of a 12" cabinet of drawers in the middle there is a 7" GAP!!! Again, the contractors (who I later found out are use to having to work around Builders Surplus incompetence) worked around the issue by adding a piece of wood over the 7" gap and painting it the same color as the cabinets. I applaud them for fixing the issue.....BUT THE FACT THERE WAS EVEN AN ISSUE is the problem. That marble top should have never been a suggestion from our SALESPERSON, JOSE. Needless to say, I was LIVID & when I called the store to inform them of their error, OUR SALESPERSON, JOSE WHO WAS SO NICE & HELPFUL WHEN HE MADE THE ERROR basically said, "she got what she purchased". Livid doesn't even begin to describe how I was feeling at the time. My grandmother felt she had been ripped off and we were basically told by JOSE & his manager, CALESHA "it must be a space issue" or "your measurements must be off". THEY ABSOLUTELY REFUSED TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY for their salesperson's actions. Not until I showed up in person (after CALICIA, STORE MANAGER, HUNG UP THE PHONE ON ME) A few days later after calling the store back and finally getting CALISHA back on the phone (she was gone for the day when I went in person) she says, "Jose should not have sold you the marble top because it is known that they do not fit the vanity you purchased".....so she offered to take the marble top back and we can go buy one that fits. I just picked up a kitchen cabinet set that I purchased for over $3k. The day I purchased the cabinets, it was set up like it was in a showroom. I told the lady I wanted the entire set up. She rang me up and I paid. Fast forward to getting home, I notice I'm missing the counter top, the 2 shelves, and the crown molding. I called back and all they kept saying none of that stuff was included and if we wanted it we would have to drive the 1.5 hours back to the store and purchase the items. Seeing as how I already spent over $3k on the set up, I cannot afford the pay for the "additional" items. I mentioned bringing the set back and was denied a return. Went to check out what they had for bathroom vanities. Whereas they have modular components for kitchen cabinets, bathroom vanities were just the standard sizes ranging from 3-5'. There were only a few styles and colors available and all were pricier than comparable quality from big box retailers. Since this place is highly rated, I assume the appeal is for people who want to customize every part yet stay within standard sizes. For us, neither is true - we wanted a generally modern feel for countertop, cabinet, and hardware but we did need a 6' vanity. Employees to help answer questions were hard to come by but when you did find them they were friendly. Overall, not our bag but not a bad place if you fit their niche. read more

This store is over stock with associates who lack customer service skills. I purchased an interior door, had my contractor pick it up, and they gave him the wrong door. When I returned the door the next day, I had to wait approx. 50 mins to speak with the Owner/General Manager. When she came to the counter, she did not want to hear anything about compensation for the error her staff committed. She ONLY agreed to exchange the door, which was done. However, the problem got worse, the door she gave me was the wrong size, and I had to go back a 2nd time to address this issue. I demanded and receive a Full refund. The real issue here is not the refund, its the Ownership and the lack of compassion, flexibility and customer service. As a Owner/General Manager, you should be willing to correct a wrong, especially when the problem is caused by your staff. With Gas prices shooting up, and me having to drive back to Builders Surplus, two times in as many days, to return a produce that they errored on and not receive some form of monetary compensation is really poor judgement on the part of the Owner/General Manager. Purchased $2600 for 2 vanities and 2 granite countertops with sinks installed. I did not want the floor model vanity so they told me I could have mine built. I opted for that. Fast forward 3 weeks when I went to pick up items, the granite countertop corner was chipped. I complained and was offered a new one or complimentary back splash to hide imperfection. Choose back splash option. Took items home where they sat for several weeks awaiting install by contractors. Upon install, we discovered the vanity that was "built" for me was probably the same floor model or worse, a used one bc it had fine scratches all over the front and red scuff marks along the back legs with more scratches and knicks!! I didn't notice until it was installed and nailed into the wall. And the "free" back splash was not polished on the proper sides. They were charging me $40 to have them polished. So fair warning! INSPECT EVERYTHING VERY CLOSELY BEFORE LEAVING THIS STORE!! They'll bait and switch on you without your knowledge. read more

during my initial purchase, an employee told me that I would not be able to return any extra materials but I would be able to exchange them or get store credit, despite the sign saying otherwise, so I bout extra tile with this in mind. upon returning to the store the manager refused to honor what his employee had said. very disappointing. home Depot, floor and decor and other hardware store prices are just as cheap, and better selections, but they also provide refunds, shop there. Terrible experience. Was looking for a wood front door, They bait and switched on price, increasing bottom line by over $300. After paying their inflated price, they tried to shove a damaged door into my care before I noticed the frame was chipped. When I requested they fix it, I sat for 2 hours while their tech attempted to resolve the issue. He returned with the door and handed me 4 pieces of weather stripping because he couldnt match what was on the door. He informed me that I would have to just install the weather stripping myself. When I got home, low and behold, a huge chip that I had not detected at the bottom of the door where the veneer had come off. Wound up spending hundreds more than I would have at Home Depot or Lowes for a damaged, crappy door. BEWARE!!! read more

I am truly disappointed with Builders Surplus the Atlanta location. I purchased a $2500 front door. When I got the door home and the contractor took the wrapping and container off the door, it was discovered the top of the door was cracked/broken. This was not visible or could be visible with the door being enclosed in the box. I called and asked for options to either get the door replaced or possibly a store credit. The location is about an hour away. I paid for the door to be picked up. I now have to try and pay again to get the door back to the location and exchanged. I asked if it was possible to keep the door and get a store credit not for the cost of the door but for the inconvenience as as the additional cost I would encounter trying to return the door. The GM said no. I will not use them or recommend them for anything. read more

I was in builders surplus today and tried to purchase a vanity. When they went to ring it up they said the price tag on the unit was not correct and the vanity was actually $1000 more than the price tag indicated. I asked them to honor the price on the unit and they said they would not do this. I also called the regional manager explained the situation to her and she said often times the price tags in their stores do not reflect correct pricing and they would only go by the pricing in their system. The quality of the cabinets were extremely poor and the price was exorbitant. When I had Katie help load the cabinet the plywood side began to peel and flake. They ordered me a new one and when I brought back the original one the manager refused to honor the return saying he couldn't resell it. They don't have a website that gives even TENTATIVE inventory or offerings. -- Would you like to call to ask questions before you visit? Nope. Either a) no one will answer, b) the line will be busy, c) a person will answer who tells you need to come and take a look and d) a person will answer and tell you they don't sell that item (but you're going to want to ignore that person*). -- Want to visit late night or on a weekend? Nope. They close early and I would not recommend going on a weekend. On Saturdays, they are SLAMMED with the folks that couldn't visit during the week. -- Looking for a QUICK bargain? Nope. I would not recommend going if you don't have a lot of time on your hands. There's a LOT of inventory and it takes quite a bit of time to peruse said inventory. You might also have to look around to find someone to help you. I would give you my 'tip' on how I get help - but it's bold and it might get you arrested - just kidding - kind of. So with all the 'nopes' - what merits 4 stars? Easy. I rank based on lane / genre. I'm never going to judge a fine dining establishment on the same merits that I judge a dive bar. I want good food, visible cleanliness and friendly staff at both - but if my table rocks, and my menu is barely legible photocopy - at a dive bar - I'm okay - if I'm at a Michelin rated or even a Zagat rated spot - I'm expecting a bit more. This is a surplus inventory warehouse. It's not Home Depot or Lowe's and doesn't even try to be. It's insanely 'affordable' aka cheap. The staff, when you can find them, are friendly, if a bit unpolished, uninformed and lazy. The inventory is grouped and easy to find but you gotta be willing to take the time to look for the section you need. *One Thursday evening I called to ask if they had in shutters in stock. I was told, "No. We haven't had any shutters in a while." The next morning, I decided to stop by because I was at the store right behind them looking for light fixtures and I figured, what the heck." They had about 120 pairs of shutters outside in the parking lot for sale. Some were loose / unboxed. Some were in boxes that were sun-bleached and decomposing / falling apart due to the rain. It took some picking through them to find the size and color I needed - but I wound up finding all the shutters I need ($5.00 per pair / set - and I purchased 6 sets total - $30). Had I purchased these same shutters at Lowe's or Home Depot - it would have cost me $464.18. I stood around waiting for help - when no one ventured over, I backed my car over and started loading them into the trunk of my car so that I could drive over to the 'entrance' and just pay. Before I got the first set in my trunk, wouldn't you know it - a friendly salesperson arrived to check to see if I needed help. Lol. After standing with me in line for quite some time, my sales rep / the employee who loaded my car must have gotten tired, so he went up to cashier, said something. Then came back to me and told me 'she'll take care of you!' Then he disappeared. When it was finally my turn to pay - the cashier asked how she could help me. I told her I wanted to pay for some shutters - while pointing at my car with shutters jutting out of the trunk. And she said, "Oh . . . I'm sorry . . . I don't think we sell shutters ma'am." I bought 3 window units today and it took me 30 minutes to check out. The Italian ice vender got better attention than I did with a 550.00 sale. The " salesperson " kept calling me " Dad" and had no idea as to the product he was pushing. The prices there are twice the cost of a big box store and there is thousands of dollars of product left outside in the weather. I went in on a busy Saturday morning to pick up my exterior door...they were slammed, couldn't find door (no big deal) and the EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH, HOWARD DORSEY, suggested that we just find the same style on the floor and they would load it...turns out I purchased the completely wrong door for what I wanted to do - KIND Howard Dorsey installed the correct style door window panes lickety split and had me on my way in 20 minutes.
